Um... I have an Athlon too, voice comm works fine. Of course, that's on the 1.4 steam install. Voice comm broke on my 1.3 install, and wouldn't work. Dunno why though, just would say "cannot load codec voice_miles" or something along those lines.

And yeah, GonePostal, I really didn't understand what you were trying to say with that whole crouch thing. But, when you design it and implement it, let us know, and we'll come try it out for you. Until then, it's time for me to hold my peace on this thread, and go back to playing some CS. :) Bah, must finish homework first!

I Think Gonepostal meant Jump+Crouch for boxes and windows etc!

Maps like Italy and Inferno are really painfull nowadays.

The main, overriding reason why CS isn't availible for the mac is because macs suck. :) Or, as a secondary reason, you could think back to the fact that the market is absolutely dominated by PC's, not macs. Bummer you got a mac instead of a PC, eh? Stick with what everyone else has, and you'll be better off for it. The effort required to port things to completely different platforms often simply isn't worth it.

According to "progresive" comments things should be changed. jumping restrictions shold be apllied after 2-4 jumps, accordingly to carring weight. and after this charecter (muscle) phisics may apply.

you must have posted 20+ now, so shut up we know what you say and we are not impressed or interested. If you don't like CS1.4 then go play in another sandbox.

The CS team / Valve stopped bunny jumpers (some may say in a very real way since no real person can jump land and run with speed, carrying all the equipment) and now they are doing a grand job getting rid of the cheaters.

PS: I played SOF2 for the first time last night for a couble of hours and loved it. It's very different compared to CS, so I think there is room to play both.

bunnyjumpers were stopped in CS1.3 already so stop whining on 'gonepostal' - i think he touches some real issues that most of the dumb people are too scared to face:

                CS1.4 is dumbed down:

*the jumping in CS1.4 did not stop bunnyhopping cause it was already out of the game in CS1.3

*the accuracy was toned down so dodging bullets by jumping and in that way shooting back has become less effective

*sitting to improve accuracy is foolish and rewards campers

*tuning down weaponchange does surely not reward skilled and fast players

*lowering walkspeed does slow down the overal game and stealth ability

*improving para accuracy is surely not realistic

*i cannot mute idiots using their microphone and still be able to read comments in teamsay to know teamtactics on pubs

IF you have some reasonable arguments against this then you have something to say ...otherwise you are just a forum spammer

and for those who think i'm a n00b:

                http://users.pandora.be/snowblind/slet2.jpg 41awp kills

                http://users.pandora.be/snowblind/aztec.jpg

1.5 million gamers left the building:

                http://csports.computerandvideogames.com/story.asp?id=87

A cursory look at the daily unique player plot since the update day seems to indicate that 16% of the Half Life community, or 1.5 million online players have been unable to or have decided not to download the new patches. Monthly data would suggest this number may be twice as large.

The reasons for this gap may include:

1)There are still a sizeable proportion of modem users out there who are waiting for magazine cover discs to enable them to upgrade. The excellent Valve/Speakeasy survey suggests that this could account for up to 10% of the shortfall.

2)Game and/or patch fatigue. After all Half Life and Counterstrike have been around for a while.

Difficulty in downloading the latest patches may have been the stimulus for some gamers to move on.

3)Incompatablitiy. A number of gamers have reported that the new patches do not work.

4)Disatisfaction with the new Counterstrike gameplay. This may not be as significant as some believe. All Half Life mods have taken a similar sized hit. We will look at this again in two weeks, when the long term effects are clearer.

Bunnyhopping or the ability to speed up while jumping was stopped in 1.3, bunnyhopping or the ability to jump repeatedly was stopped in 1.4. I'm making suggestions how to make CS better. You don't care, fine, don't post about it.

My idea is that with a jump system that penalizes your ability to jump by X amound after Y jumps when you land a jump with a crouch, it would penalize mobility, but there would be no penalty on jumping, which would let you jump the boxes on italy and other maps with no problem.

                        nice debate ...

let me start of with my favorite quite...maybe even of all times:
                        ALT+F4 wrote..

What about the numerous players who quit CS because of these 'problems' in CS 1.3? The game has changed for the better, not only in cheating defeats but in overall balance. Those who complain about these particular changes are ninnies who became accustomed to winning by exploiting weaknesses in the game engine, not by using skills that would actually work in the Real World.
number 1: i don't know a single person in CS that quite because of all these "problems"(?) in 1.3, but a hugh number of people who quite because of 1.4. the numbers above indicate that. but now my favorite part. somebody actually thinks he can use ANY of the things in CS in the real world. I'm not quite sure if i should laugh out aloud or be scared.

and here the most popular mistakes:

                        1. bunny hopping (as mentioned before) was removed in 1.3. it was a method of gaining great speed without using the forward key. some people prefer to call it strafe-jumping (including me). i think i still have a demo of me flying from the dust CT sniper point over the canyon to the right T exit. that was truly an exploit. just being able to jump is NOT an exploit.

                        2. people who prefer 1.3 can't "adapt" to 1.4. well, i have adapted, I'm just as good (maybe even better) than in 1.3, and i still don't like it.

i had more but forgot them :). oh well...

i guess in 1.3 my reaction when someone jumped, turned in mid-air and gave me a deagle headshot was "wow, nice shot" and not " you ******, using ****** exploits you ****** cheater-lamer-nub". probably has to do with the overall immaturaty of the CS scene. same as calling jumping an exploit. being new to a game never has been easy, it wasn't easy when i started and it shouldn't. with enough skill you could kill every deagle jumper.

Using deagle as a primary weapon only worked good on average and below average players. but admiting that is hard, i know, and complaining a lot easier.

here my suggestion...every CS player should be required to play at least 2 other shooters (not including half life mods) to see what REAL aim and skill is all about

one of the pictures shows 2 players of a top 10 belgian clan

i don't play on newbie servers as i and my clan were ranked top3 on the Belgian Gaming Trophy ladder (PS: i don't do CB for the single reason custom skins/models are not allowed there - i play with 'Fusion modelpacks since many months - standard models are plain boring)

I'm confused. Improving the para accuracy is bad because it isn't realistic, but improving accuracy while still and crouched is bad because it is? In real life, CT operations are not done in 3 minutes, and usually include a long stakeout but two or more snipers, who DO NOT MOVE for up too days ata a time. Improving the accuracy while sitting still is a great move, I think, because it definitely improves realism in a way that enhances gameplay by levelling the field somewhat. With accuracy ridiculous like it used to be, it wasn't necessarily the players who used proper teamplay and tactics (positioning, flanking, communication etc) who got kills and/or won rounds, it was those who had the ridiculous twitch refelexes. Although there will always be a place for that paly style in any computer or video game, anything that evens things out is a good thing, I think. New players (of any game) get sick of losing to scrawny, penicl necked geeks who have somehow achieved symbiosis with their controller. You know who I'm talking about, you freaks :)

you just said it ... so to even 3years of experience they remove jumping and dumb down accuracy while in mid air to let sprayers and campers do their thing.

I used to dodge all the bullets with a deagle... now i'm forced to use an awp or AK.

                              Anyway to conclude:

many players sticked to CS1.4 in the hope for change ... now ... they have none ... i wonder how many will drop off this time.

remember Condition Zero will have the same gameplay (i was intrested but now anymore) - the so much anticipated Single Player game may flaw.

and how realistic is it to have perfect accuracy while in mid air? and also, how many real-life CT's go running around with just Desert Eagles? If you're going to complain about things being unrealistic, be consistent.
