VALVe's Doug Lombardi responded with this to CS Extreme's simple question. Without fixing these 'problems,' as some might call them, CS may lose many players who are unhappy with CS 1.4.

What about the numerous players who quit CS because of these 'problems' in CS 1.3? The game has changed for the better, not only in cheating defeats but in overall balance. Those who complain about these particular changes are ninnies who became accustomed to winning by exploiting weaknesses in the game engine, not by using skills that would actually work in the Real World.

I say Good F*ckin' Riddance to anyone who quits CS because of the improvements made in 1.4.

Oh, and I love the recent Skins of the Day featuring weapons with the total inability to function as drawn, i.e. the cut-down M4 with nowhere for the bolt to recoil and the big honkin' revolver whose barrel doesn't align with the cylinder chamber actually under the hammer. And I'm still amused to death by the MAC-10 firing from a closed bolt position.

Alt, if you care to call people that quit ninnies, do you care to tell me how these changes improve the game? Or is the only defense you have is the jumping is better because it stops bunnyhopping, accuracy is better because it takes more skill, and walking is better because it was an exploit? Read my posts and then defend these changes.

But in 1.4 the ppl with superior aim have the skill because now they aren't aiming at "bunny hoppers". Meh, I liked 1.3 jumping, but I have just had to get used to 1.4.

In 1.3 if you had skilled aim, you would still hit the bunnyhoppers no matter how much they might be jumping. In 1.4 the accuracy has been lowered so how is it an easier to hit them even if they are on the ground?
We've been through this before, retard.

Yes, you can hit bunnyhoppers in 1.3. The PROBLEM was that because they were bunnyhopping, you'd end up hitting them in far less vital hitboxes.

1.4 is no different. Now the accuracy is a bit lower so you still won't always be hitting them in vital hitboxes.

Why don't you respond to my post above about the changes if you feel so inclined?

I suggest end this topic coz its getting old and we all know that jumping in cs1.3 won't be brought back anytime soon.

what i really want to know is what changes will occur in 1.5. Hope somebody posts what they know.

Hey Gonepostal! In case u haven't noticed, ur not making any friends around here with that "I am god and everyone around here should agree with me and shut the hell up" attitude. Ur entitled to ur own opinion, we're entitled to ours. Respect and u shall be respected. Try doing that instead of juz flaming everyone that says 1.4 is great.

like what rizzuh said, it will not be change, so my advice is to just shut the hell up, adjust to the games new cinfiguration, and let others say what they feel towards 1.4 without contradicting every praise for the new version

maybe, juz maybe, this will stop and we'll all get along.
When did I act like God and tell everyone to shut the hell up may I ask? I really don't care if some kid over the internet doesn't like me, so hate me all you want. I never flamed anyone that didn't flame me first, maybe you should read because I stated that about 3 times now.

Rizzuh isn't God you know. It's been stated that it can change so get the facts straight. I will continue to critisize opinions because that's what you do in a debate.

Let's all have the same opinion and kiss everyone else's ass so we can get along and be happy.

The idea of restricting the height of consecuative jumps is not something GonePostal just made up in this discussion -- he's posted this idea before... many, many times, because jumping in 1.4 is about all he ever talks about.

However, this has a few problems with it. First off, an area where jumping problems have made an impact on the play of maps is in cs_italy, the boxes into the rose room from the CT side. With the current style of 1.4 jumping, your height is never reduced, so you can still make it up there in two jumps. However, you have to pause at the top to get the necessary speed to jump into the opening. If jumping height was reduced in each consecutive jump, however, this would still be the case, as you'd have to pause to get the necessary height to make that jump. Doesn't fix that issue.

GonePostal's suggestion would allow you to occasionally jump over obstacles while rushing. However, it would also still allow for fairly effective bunny-hopping, as maintaining speed would make it plenty easy for you to do a few jumps while dodging or attacking without real penalty (the height only really matters while going over obstacles).

This is the real issue. Speed is necessary for effective bunny-hopping. Height is necessary for navigating obstacles in the map. Yes, penalizing the speed does have an impact on rushing. However, it doesn't impede your ability to move around the world. Reducing height would. When fighting a guy, I don't want to see him hopping away at full speed even if his jumps get shorter and shorter... that still equates to his head bouncing more than it should, while he's still able to maintain speed = no real penalty in a fight.

Nice suggestion, but personally, I don't think it'd be all that effective. They probably thought about this for a while before designing it, and I'm sure your suggestion was one of the ideas that crossed their minds, but was ultimately rejected. If it's a truly wonderful idea, though, feel free to design your own mod and implement it, and see if we all come flocking to play.
If something was incorperated like landing a jump with a crouch would not be penalized, than there would be no problem trying to jump boxes because landing a jump with a crouch would penalize mobility which keeps bunnyhoppers away. I see no problem with that. Do you?

good, the limited jumping has made the game ALOT better in my opinion

Why does it make it a lot better? Don't tell me it stops bunnyhopping either because that can be achieved other ways.

Ok, you've convinced me that bunny hopping can be stopped by other methods, and I admit some of your ideas have merit. But will you admit that the jumping in 1.4 has stopped bunnyhopping? If that was the purpose of the jumping changes, then it has succeeded. Then we can feel free to say that we prefer 1.4 because "It stops bunnyhopping" and you can stop giving people crap for saying that.

You prefer 1.4 over 1.3, but what makes 1.4 better than other solutions that do the same thing and are less restrictive?
I didn't say anything about 1.4 being better than other solutions. But, the problem with the other solutions is jus that, they are OTHER solutions, and as such have not been incorporated into CS. We can't test those other ideas. If you can think of some way of testing it out, then great. Let me know, and I'll be there.

I'm a little confused as to what you mean here. Do you mean that if, you hit crouch as you land, you will not be penalized for height? Please explain, and mayb avoid the run-on sentences :) (God, my English teacher would be proud. That's for you, Mrs. K)

VoiceComm Sucks!....But only because I have an Athlon and not a Pentium!!!......The damn thing doesn't work!

It sure would make it simpler for me if my VoiceComm worked.
