personally i dont like the beta, its laggy (online), it dosent feel like cs, the gameplay seems to have drastically change, the hit registration seems to be pathetic, a lot of the weapons look cartoony and overall it isnt as good as cs1.6 in my opinion.

        Yeah. I do suck.

Let me add something: on that 233mhz mmx pentium with a voodoo 3 3000 agp I had to use those low-poly (box like) models, no decals, smoke grenade quality worst as possible, 16bit, 512x384 resolution, low quality sound, lots of graphic tweaks (ugly as hell), driver tweaks (alpha blending, zbuffer etc tweaked), opengl tweaks (that wickedgl stuff) and the game still played like crap.

        Please, shut up.
well i'll admit the 2 was a mistake on my part, it was a slip-up. but i did indeed play counter-strike on it. didn't need to tweak it much either, didn't use any low-poly stuff, disabled decals, pretty sure i disabled viewmodels, any other options i could find on low/off, tiny res(can't recall exactly, might've been 320x240). ran fine with a few people on screen, more than three and it would lag. whether you'll believe or not, it ran counter-strike.

I find it strange the amount of people....not all (Many don't do this)...

who get any kind of error and don't even attempt to figure it out. I have been on the SteamPowered forums, HL Fallout forums and here, of course, and some of the errors are downright silly.

"I can't bring up the console. ~ key doesn't work. Valve sucks".

Yet, it's right there in the options to enable it. They didn't even look in the options area. or...

"I changed my video option while in game and it hung up. It's just sitting there for 20 minutes now. How long should I wait?"

Oh, about 19 minutes less than you have already. Reboot, nimrod!

I kid you not.....I found that post on one of these forums (Steam's I believe) and fell out.

A lot of the posts are legitimate, especially the ones people are having of it crashing. I had odd streaky video smears in spots thruout the map but someone had the same problem and had a fix for it that worked.

It seems many people know little more than how to turn on their computer and start a game program....and these people are helping to test a BETA. Scary.
very true most people dont report the errors

It will definately be interesting to see how 1.6 sqaures up to CS: Source. My initial feeling is that 1.6 will start loosing players as they all switch over to Source. But that might not be the case.

If 1.6 does stay as popular as it is, the only reason would be becasue every1 just loves the fact that it runs at 100fps on their computer. Now all of a sudden CS: Source has come out they've had a big shock seeing that they're only getting 30 fps.

              Long live 1.6 eh?...

Even funnier is that the human eye can't detect over 40 FPS.

Florescent lights, I think, blink at around 33 times per second, yet they look like they are on constantly.

Maybe lemurs could benefit from 100 FPS.....but I bet they'd still make lousy Counter-Strike players.

It's actually closer to 72fps that it can't detect above, but it differs based on a number of factors.

I dont really feel like getting into that whole stupid discussion right now as it's been done to death, so just google it.

oh. my. god. Not the old "human eye can't see more than ridiculously low number" argument again, from alt.games.half-life in 1999 and all over the place elsewhere.

People's eyes are different but most can detect changes over 60 times a second.

TV / film is only 24/25fps and uses motion blur to not seem choppy.

Fair enough.....I did, and there is indeed a new plethora of info about frame rates out there. (I never bothered with your previous discussions concerning this). The consensus seems to be Max 72 out there. Of course, as I write this, I suddenly wonder if my refresh rate on my monitor will impact it too. I'll investigate that just for fun.

But anyway, the graphics test that Valve included had me running at 38 FPS. I certainly was killing most of the opposition last night in Source who I'm sure have better systems than my old 1.4 AMD Thunderbird with a ATI 9100 as well as normally doing well in CS and CZ servers.

What it means in the long run is.....do people want 100 FPS for speed (CS 1.6) or would they like to sacrifice some speed for detail and quality (CS: Source)?

I'll go with Source when they get the kinks out.

Why ppl that say BS like "human eye only sees 24 fps" do it if they had a huge knowledge about eye, fps and so on?

Ridiculous. My eye detects lamps that have low frequency, I can see them blinking.

Btw, let's talk about CS: I think that everyone that plays CS seriously will tweak it to the death, turning off all the graphical bells and wristles if it will give them 100 fps. Even water reflections on aztec, reflections on the bottles of dust, turning textures do low quality, models to low poly, turn of skybox blablabla... I will :P

I think most won't. People loved Far Cry and it's graphics. Same for Doom3 and it's graphics. They suffer from poor multi-play is the only problem. Counter-Strike is all about it's superb multi-play. That's the only real reason so many peeps are so passionate about every single little and/or big thing concerning it. If people can have the details and eye candy coupled with the gameplay they have come to enjoy, i think most will take it...happily.

At the 39 FPS I had to "suffer" through last night, I owned most of the players in there once I got the new feel of the weapons and the cross-hairs. I didn't notice a whole lot of lag. Just a couple of times when the whole server lagged and everyone commented on it at the time. People have waited for a long time for a facelift such as this and I think the BETA test will only allow Valve to improve it and get it to the standards we have all gotten accustomed to for years.

Anyone who just wants to turn everything off just to get "100 FPS" shouldn't even bother. Stick with 1.6.
