actually...i dont see whats supposed to be bad i 1.4.. the silent running thing was a bug, and you cant complain about fixin bugs, cuz thats what patches a supposed to do.. and the jumpin thing.. first of all: it was a coward tactic to use that bunnyjumpin. and second: i didnt see much difference in 1.4 when it comes to jumpin.. the aim isnt THAT horrible as many ppl say.. so all in all... 1.4 isnt bad, undepending of what you think.. and for those whos whining bout 1.4: LEARN TO ADAPT!

Ok, I'm gonna go on a little rant here, but hopefully I can keep it as sane as possible...

CS 1.4: I love it and I hate it.

      Reasons for luvin:

      1) Spectator Modes, damn they are nice, and its very cool watching other peoples style of play. Interesting to see how the community will develop now that the newer players can "watch and learn".

      2) Dynamic crosshair, pretty cool feature, although completely cosmetic.

      3) Hitbox accuracy. This is one of the things I love and hate at the same time. The luv because, I can aim onto a persons head, and what do ya know?! THE BULLETS HIT WHERE I AIM!!

      4) Bug fixes and new things that are cool: corpses staying for the round, very cool because you can tell where the combat was when you come up to an area.

Ok, on to the stuff I hate:

      1) Walk speed... Sure +moveup and all that was technically an exploit, but did anyone ever stop and consider the concequences of bringing the maximum movement speed while remaining silent to a snails pace? Sure it was an exploit to walk faster... but in reality it was the PERFECT speed. I play CS competetively, and play alot of high level clan matches and scrimmages, and I can tell you from experience with 1.4, the walking is WAY TOO SLOW. Ask any professional player and you will get the same response. It totally eliminates the ability of the T's to sneak from 1 site to the other to "test" the CT defenses. They are simply forced to set up an attack and rush in. It also eliminates the ability of the CTs to sneak into a bombsite after the T's have planted the bomb.

phew... theres the rant on walking :P

      2) Slow weapon switching: Ok... sure in real life it takes a couple of seconds to put away your gun, and pull out another gun. But I'm so sick of those excuses (Oh you wouldnt see that in real life, blah blah). Give me a break, this is a game, meant to be fun and competetive. In my opinion the slow switching is just another thing that slows the game down for no reason. Note that its not my biggest concern... not like I'm gonna quit CS because I cant pull my pistol out fast anymore, but I believe it brings more balance, fun, and competition to the game the way it used to be.

      3) Pistol inaccuracy while moving / jumping: This is one of the bigger changes the drastically effects competetive play. The ability to be completely mobile yet still accurate with pistols was a HUGE balancing factor in competition. It made save rounds possible (If your a newbie, a save round is where you dont buy a gun to save money, and you only use a pistol). I think it was probably a somewhat good idea to decrease the accuracy while jumping, but while moving? That just makes pistols useless. You have to crouch with a usp to fight against an AKer? Yea right...

      4) Jumping... Jumping isnt so bad. It doesnt bother me much, although if it was up to me I would leave it the way it was. Yet another aspect that slows the game down.

      5) Random headshots... Yes I love the new hitboxes because my bullets hit where I AIM THEM. But because of the "tweaking" of accuracies, I CONSTANTLY see newbies running around spraying like a lunatic, and getting headshots like crazy. Its funny how people complained about bunny hopping in 1.3 and how "waa waa people bounce up and down and get headshots" well look at the rediculous headshots now! I think valve basically dumbed down CS, to cater to people who aren't skilled enough to play well. You look at all the polls and such, and of course 50% of the people love 1.4, so you feel like its not so bad, and the other 50% will get used to it. In reality, 75% of the people who love 1.4, love it because it enables them to get lucky kills constantly, so they think 1.4 is great. Have you ever watched the first person view? Sometimes it makes me sad. I see people with positive records who couldnt hit the broad side of a barn, yet they spray their gun and wave the crosshair all around, and nab headshots left and right.

Anyway that was a big rant about lucky headshots... phew.

Lastly I just want to comment on rizzuh's denial that 70 yard headshots are "impossible" and all luck. First off tho, I have nothing against u rizzuh, and I want to congratulate you on your awesome support for the community with CS Nation and getting those 1.4 mirrors out there. But back to what you said about 70 yard headshots... Thats the most rediculous statement I've ever heard rizzuh. (Plz dont get mad, im just tellin u the truth). 70 yards... Would you say from the "pit" on Dust2, to bombsite A is about 70 yards? Its not hard AT ALL to get a headshot from that distance. And I don't think you've watched too many good players if you think its impossible. For me its actually easier to get headshots from very long distance, because the farther away the person is, the slower they are moving relative to your crosshair. Have you ever played awp_map? The distance across that map is like what... 100+ yards? Sometimes for fun I buy an M4 and nab headshots across the map with ease. Especially easy in 1.4. And unless you are in 400x300 or something rediculous, a persons head is not 2 pixels. And btw, even if it was, its completely possible to aim at 1 individual pixel.

Wow what a long rant. If you actually read this whole thing, I apologize for having wasted so much of your precious CS playing time.

GG LUCK WTF BS GG JUMPING STUPID WALKING SLOW WTF OMFG PISTOLS SUCK WTF IS THIS BS! KTHX.

It totally screwed up my skins also. When the gun is on the ground I see what my skin was, but when I pick the gun up/buy a gun it is the default CS one
You'll need to rename all your custom models.

v_knife_r.mdl needs to be renamed v_knife.mdl, for instance.

Left handed models are a thing of the past.

Cs 1.4 definitely is a big improvement over 1.3, well at least I feel it is. One issue I'm having problems with is the fps with the update though. As I am not running a really high end pc (p3 450 mhz w/ 256 ram) I find myself laggin VERY much on the havana map. Is it possibly because of the extreme detail on it? Oh well, enough gripping for now. CS 1.4 rocks, nice touch with the aim box fixing, and...well if you haters out there say you suck more with 1.4, you probably do because you can't cheat anymore. Keep up the good work! Can't wait for CZ. peace out.

The real reason why valve made these changes was to help newbies. If the games easier for newbies, more newbies will start to play and they make more money. Do they care about the vets playing? Nope because they already got our money. Why do you think Valve or any of those slack jawed yokels there haven't made any comments about the changes? They are scared.

            1.4 = Way too n00b frienly

Bunny hopping was one of those few skills that seperated n00bs from the good old players. N00bs don't even use their pistol at all and just *try* to reload. Another thing was the plant. If a n00b can't find the bomb a couple of feet away they dont deserve to defuse it.

Oh and BTW it is very possible to get a 1 shot headshot 70 yards. The dust bridge is well over 70 yards and I could get deagle headshots before the damn pistol changes. The head is about 5-15 pixels not 2. There is no spot on any map I've played where someones head is only 2 pixels.

[blockquote]one slight concern is the jumping. i respect that some people see it as a benefit since it removes bunnyhopping or it seems more realistic. for me, though, i preferred being able to jump around. see, what makes cs fun for me is not so much that it's fairly realistic as it is the joy of being a badass. everyone loves to be the one that throws the flashbang down the airduct in de_prodigy into a group of heavily armed t's, then rush in after it, popping two dazed t's in the head directly in front of you, grab their weapons, pop the two behind, then switch to your pistol to finish the last one camping behind the box. there are countless scenarios like this. maintaining mobility was an important part of being able to pull something like that off. jumping, although not as important or even always necessary, was also helpful. now those two things are imcompatible as jumping renders the same effect as being shot; you slow down. it also makes it harder for the guy rushing under bridge in de_dust to dodge awpers. it could also possibly make single player in condition zero a little boring for me. of course, the new jumping isn't all that hard to adjust to, or that annoying, i would just have preferred to have it the old way.I completely agree with this guy. I was going to whine and complain about the jumping changes, but I figured I'd just sound stupid 'cuz I'm not good at writing. So, I quoted him. ^^ And once again, if you want realistic combat go play freakin' paintball or Ghost Recon or some other "uber-realistic" game. (Read: one shot in the foot from a .22 puts you into shock and you die) I always have loved CS because it was an arcade-y escape from all those extremely realistic games/mods that seem to have been so trendy the last couple years. Now, I'm not sure if I even want to keep playing it. There are so many things added/changed/removed that I dislike I don't even find playing very enjoyable, but I have no other game to fall back on to take up all my free time. Well, I could start degaussing my monitor all the time...

When you spray someone with bullets, those bullets have to go somewhere. And they should have the same chance of hitting your head in the "cone" in creates as every other part of your body. Also, the first shot is dead accurate for some weapons if your crouching. I've headshot someone long distance with a colt in the first shot before. Why? Becuase I was mentally aiming for the head.

Also, you have the same chance to get "lucky" as everyone else, so why complain? I believe it's perfectly fine how it is.

Definitely different of version 1.3, but i loved it so i didn't want it to change. The new spectator mode is a very good thing but all the rest appears to ... suck.

Bad jumping changes, new crosshair but it moves too much for me (but we still can have the old version), corpse stay at the ground which causes nothing but bugs, like bodies lying in the air, new maps (i haven't played them yet, just tried them alone) that sometimes run at 4 to 10 fps in my P3 500 ...

Most changes are for newbies i think, the disabling of bunnyhopping do give them an important advantage, the only good thing that changes in positive is when you're dead ... Valve, you suck ...

I asked most of my friends who have been playing CS for sometimes and they all told me they didn't like the new version.

Oh, and the reason why some people don't read the posts directly above them is becuase they get posted while looking at the page, or while writing. I certainly don't bother to copy all my text in the middle of writing, refresh, and paste it all again just to make sure no one has posted before me.

If two or three posts are within a few minutes of each other, chances are they didn't see the one before them. So don't call them morons, before evaluating things first. Also, evaluate your own moronic tendencies for not thinking things through before posting.

I think someone forgot to mention that if players dont have STEAM installed, the logging reports the killer and victim as the same person, thus fucking up any statistics (if you dont have steam). Wow, is that a bug, or just some nasty stab saying "you dont get stats for not using STEAM" ? :P

Oh, might i forget, all the points of supporting or not supporting the changes splits the community, well, you're doing that right now. Dont blame our critique for ruining your game community. Instead of telling us that our opinions are shit (as i only spotted a few posts disliking CS 1.4) and treating those that praise 1.4 like gold.

it seems to me (and others) that cs is trying to be the medium between realistic combat and unrealistic effects. Ex: jumping slows you down, but it can take 20 shots from an MP5 navy to kill someone. Or my favorite: Headshots can bring you down to 1 hp, but when doing bursts, you have a better chance of getting a headshot than a body shot.

Just make a decision here -- follow the game through on the realism, or go back to less powerful guns so you can stay in a firefight longer. Right now it'sbeing cut down to 'well this is realistic in the sense of <aspect>' but this MOD isn't freaking realistic! my point: make it like real life, or make it an arcade game. I find it difficult to work in the middle. (although, i do like getting 35 headshots a map).

well ive played 1.4 for a few days now and my verdict is that its pretty damn cool. i really like the spectator mode additions, +the new maps, but the high detail seems 2 give at least some extra lag.

Gameplay wise, all the changes r fine bar the slower after jumping (maybe the CS team shouldve spent some time jumping around the office first) since this breaks the laws of physics, and the v slow walking. if the guns have been changed i havent noticed it, apart from the pistols (wow im not deagle sniped anymore) and less accuracy for them is good.

Of course seeing these cool changes is now dependent on me actually managing 2 join a game. i am cs retail 56k and could maintain half-decent connections with ping 200-270 with minimal lag on 1.3, but now:

                            - if my computer fails an atempt 2 join a server it thinks it has actually joined....but the diconect button doesnt apppear

                            - my ping is +100 and v laggy on large servers....but on 1.3 my ping and lag would be the same on most servers

                            - cs will sometimes crash when attempting 2 connect...it didnt on 1.3

                            - this is minor - i have no sound in the game menus or startup videos

                            - i think most ppl have seen the slow menus and probs with custom mdls

These problems are making cs very tedious, and there are quite a few posts from other 56kers saying likewise

2 any1 out there wanting realism: cs will NEVER be anything like reality so accept that it is just a computer game and if u dont like it play something else :P

ps: thanx 4 the 1.4 links rizzuh
