Its sad to say , but what do they expect if the gun laws are slack.

Its bound to happen sooner or later.

Even if he did do it because he was trying to emulate his best score on cs [sorry] it doesnt matter because if it wasnt cs , then it would have been maybe, trying to emulate Arnie's body count in Commando or something.

This says 1 thing to me, BAN ALL GUNS WORLDWIDE.period.

I mean, what kind of fool has/wants a REAL gun anyway?

I had to buy 4 new mouses, 2 new keyboards, a new desk tray, and a million Playstation remotes because one way or another you get pissed, slam the mouse down, hit something scream and yell WTF that was BS. Not just CS, but many games on various systems. No one likes to loose, and when you do you get mad. Simple fact. Some control it better then others, thats all.

It would be easy to blame counter-strike as the cause for the killing, or a factor..



But it is also possible that this guy played cs because of his sickening passion for guns..



I think the cnn article assumed too much about cs, "His favourite was called "Counterstrike" in which anti-terror units wearing masks battle each other to death. "



This makes this seem as if cs was somesort of constant blood bath...

Hi, I wrote an article about video gaming violence a couple months back for a writing contest that our english teacher made us do. It was one of the three articles from all of my english teacher's classes, so I'm a bit proud of myself :)

(BTW, it's for violence(eg. Medal of Honor, MGS+MGS2), but not excessive violence (eg. Soldier of Fortune))

Virtual Violence: Legitimate Concern or Unnecessary Hysteria?



Blam! Another horde of aliens are engulfed in flamethrower fire and burnt to a crisp. "Jason!" His mother called, "Time for school!". Jason flipped off his Playstation video game system and ran to the front door, putting on his backpack and giving his mom a great big hug before closing the front door and walking to the bus stop. Jason gets A's on every test he takes, and has an 3.83 GPA. He avoids fights whenever possible and is very calm and never gets very angry with anyone. All of this, even though he plays "violent" video games.

The reason that people (myself included) play and support most games that are violent is because they allow things that you would never, ever think of doing in real life. Many violent games are about things that aren't possible, like taking down Nazis or frying aliens with a flamethrower. Violence does not equal a good game, and many games with excessive blood and gore are pathetic attempts at entertainment.

The reason that games with blood usually sell more than games without is that if it has blood, the game is more "realistic". On the other hand, some games, like the Medal of Honor series, have absolutely no blood but are very realistic and fun to play. I think that people who play violent games are actually less likely to be violent in real life, because their anger is vented out when they play the game.

Some things are misunderstood as well about having violence such as "headshots" in games, where if you hit different areas of a target, you do more damage. This isn't for violence, but for tactics and realism. Some people complain that life and death situations don't need to be in a game. This is true, but the game would become very, very dull. Even action in Mario games were "life/death situations", where if you were damaged too much you had to start over the level.

Another complaint is that games with weapons that exist in real life are dangerous because they "teach how to shoot them". Is it just me, or does this argument seem horribly flawed? How can you possibly learn to fire a rifle with a mouse and a keyboard, or a controller? Most people also think that the violence in games is worse than the violence seen in movies, even though in the movies there isn't a limit to the processing power of a camera, so violence in movies is much more vulgar and outrageous.

The ESRB rating system is an excellent tool for helping over-protective parents raise their children, that is, if you want your kids to grow up and think that the world is one big perfect place where nothing bad happens. Not letting kids play games that are remotely violent skews their sense of reality much more than games do. Besides, juvenile murders have decreased--not increased--in the last eight years, and if the sudden burst of video games had anything to do with violent behavior, surely the statistic would be opposite.

So to sum it all up, let kids play what they want to play. If they don't, it will scar them much more than actually playing the games themselves. Don't blame the gaming industry for the violence, it's what sells. But also, don't blame the gamers, because many of them would buy less violent games anyway. Blame the people that are against violent games, because they just cause the industry to want to become more defiant to show their strength as a type of entertainment, and that a few whiny parents won't change the industry's minds.

16 people died. Ok. And? Oh, wait, it was 17. No, again in the same story it's now 18. Wow. What concrete journalism we have, perfect for basing an opinion off of. With the exception of a few people, there are just mental midgets droning on like they're competent enough to debate the boundaries of sanity when they can't even grasp that it's spelled Y-O-U and not "U". The rest are going on about god knows what. I don't know what the latter group is on about and i don't believe they do either. Apparently some people can't even handle someone being called a psycho after he's gone on a rampage against unarmed students.



The only real story here is how shoddy a job the "major" news groups are doing in reporting it. This is less in the realm of proper journalism and more into the area of just flat out making shit up. There's nothing to talk about untill a coherent report comes up.

I also congratulate SkullWolf. That article was pretty much summing up what I have been saying in past posts. I totally agree.



OverKill- I've never had to buy new mice, new keyboards, etc. etc. from being pissed.



If you do from getting pissed..you are among those where outside influences, in addition to the occasional bad day in CS, are making you violent enough to do other things such as throw stuff around the room.



Now if your sane, this pretty much means you'll be wasting a lot of money on keyboards. But sometimes an mentally unstable person starts acting like this, and it grows into horrific occurances such as this story.

I haven't read all the posts but has anyone mentioned something maybe a little more important then wether or not he played CS? His parents were divorced, I'm thinking that was a little more unbalancing then a computer game. Also.... he was expelled for forging an excuse pass, expelled... wtf, sure he should be in trouble but expelled....... if anything this is the school's fault for not caring and wanting to just get rid of him and not deal with the problem, I blame the school administration.

Hmm, i still beleive that all firearms should be forbidden all over the world, in america a ban should be enforced now, seing as the reason for carrying guns is dead. (for those of you who havent read the constitution youre allowed to carry firearms to strike down the british invaders and take up arms against the state) now the first is obsolete, and you shouldnt need guns to affect self respecting "democracy". Banning guns would save lives.

Many people world wide play so called violent games on their PC's yet NEVER commit violent crime. As a serving police officer in the UK I feel that some have a leaning towards violence that is in-built, and is always with them, and only takes something in their lives to trigger. In this case the expulsion from school.



To blame a computer game would not only be wrong, it would be avoiding trying to find the REAL CAUSE for this shooting and many others that occur worldwide.

I just wanted to infor all of you that no where in the Constitution does it say that church and state are seperate. Read it for yourselves, sure you could interpret it to say waht you want though. I don't see any problem with it either, they are up in the Supreme Court building and various other government buildings

Another thing right quick what is all this crap about gun control.....think of it this way, if everyone had a gun and was able to carry it do you think that crime would be so high? what if one of the teachers had a gun and when the psycho started shooting he pulled it out and blasted the mofo? I just dont see anything good coming from gun control to me it is a violation of the 2nd amendment to the Constitution
