Thanks for looking out for us, Strife! <grin>

I'm just hoping they picked more old-school players for their beta tests!

After-thought: People that post "STFU" need to stop and evaluate what the heck they're doing in the forums in the first place. If they don't want to hear other's opinions (even stupid, uninformed ones), they shouldn't be here.

Now, does anyone want a slightly-used soapbox?

I am but a defender of life liberty and CS feanor69, lol. I shant let you donw. As for picking old-schoolers, I am a beta 1 man myself, aside from being an original beta tester, doesnt get much more old school then that. From the servers I have played on, alot of them seem to be from atleaste beta 5, but that just might be my experiance. As for WetWilly's comment, it wont be a make or break situation. Most people will really like 1.4, and some may not like it, but I don't think a ton of people will leave, if anything, due to the new observer modes and the anti-cheat system, both very effective anti-cheat tools (duh :P) I think that many players who left due to cheating will return.

Well, I took a long time to read through every post everyone's made on this issue, which took me a good amount of time. I find myself getting offended by some stuff people say, and then realizing it doesn't matter. For one, before I go on, I'd like to say this:

This is a discussion board. It's not meant to be a place where you bash other people for their ideas, or a place to say that something SUCKS, because it's someone else's work, and if you were capable of doing something better, you would have.

Now, I've been playing counter-strike since way back in the start. I've never really noticed the abrupt transition from no jumping to mad bunny hopping. It just happened. I have really nothing against it, because if someone decides to use the tactic, it only makes me a better player to smack em down. As for people saying that it's stupid to jump to avoid snipers, I think it's a fine tactic because it seems to work whenever I see people trying to get out of the way of some sniper. I know Valve will do what they want and there WILL be a stamina system of some sort, but I hope they don't make it too harsh. A good player has to jump frantically every once in a while too.

The main question I have with this update is, will the first person be exactly as the player sees it? I mean...if they have hacks on, will you also be able to see names of every weapon and player and see the players through the wall? If you can't, maybe they should add a way to see other players through walls while you're in spec mode, so you can easily tell if they're wallhacking or not. I think 1st person's the thing that lit up my eyes when I read through the list of updates. The steam thing also is very promising.

Realism. The way I've always seen this mod was that it was one where if someone liked realism, they could join in, and if someone just played for fun, they could join in also, and it was a cross between the two. Everyone MUST know that too much realism isn't good for a game right? How shitty would it be to go swimming, then not be able to move in your 100lb. armor/ammo/gun + water weight, then being shot in the leg, making you immobile permanently, then people trampling you while trying to get through a doorway? It seemed like the CS team was always more focused on keeping the fine line between true realism and fun realism uncrossed. The only real flaw I can spot in this game is the constant cheating problem. I can't even play CS anymore because (not to brag or anything) I've got skill. If I step foot into a server and get a 4-0, I'm automatically under suspicion. If I go more than 2:1 ratio, I'm definately a cheater, and all of us know that any good CS player isn't happy (when they're playing for stats) unless they get OVER a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio.

I guess for me, I'm going to just have to wait and see how v1.4 comes along, and get it when it's available *a shame...I wish I would have known about the beta test thing so I could have signed up* A brief last comment before I go though: Please try to maintain respect for each other and keep this discussion civilized. I know most of us get defensive about our ideas, and lots of you all are still youngins, but still, just refrain from disrespect. If you've got any personal comments or a copy of the beta *chuckles* e-mail me @ stinky0@angelfire.com (that's stinkyzero...not stinkyoh).

Very nice post H-13, thank you for keeping it civilized.

Ok as for the 1st person view. You see it how the player sees it, but through your HW, so if he is running a hack, say a wallhack, you wont be able to see through walls, as you dont have the hack. YOu see it from the exact POV as he does, you see his weapon, and the animations play and everything. You also see his health. No HUD though. So if he is using a wallhack, you wont actually see the real cheat, but it will still be very apparent that he is using one. The same goes for Aimbots. This will prevent people from yelling cheater just because they got killed, because now people can go in and decide for themselves. If he isnt cheating, everyone will know it, and tell the n00b to stop complaining. If he is, tell an admin, he goes into FPV, verifies, bam, hes gone. The map mode is handy for looking for cheaters too as it not only show position, but the ANGLE in which the player is looking at, so you could easily see that a player is follwong another through the walls. All this doesnt even include what Steam does to prevent cheating. ALl in all, shaping up to be a very good system.

(please don't think any of this is sarcastic, because none of this post is meant to be taken that way. I'm just expressing my opinions)

Strife I must say thanx for the civilized in-depth post. In my opinion it's nice to hear words from someone who's actually played 1.4 as opposed to the rest of us (myself included) who are voicing our opinions and collectively shoving our heads farther and farther up our asses as we all get pissed off about our perceptions of 1.4 changes. I for one am glad you took the time to write an informative post.

However, I wonder if Valve is right now feeling rather stupid about even this semi-public beta...I mean, so many have obviously violated their non-disclosure agreements (NDA's) which, I assume (correct me if I'm wrong) say you're not supposed to talk about 1.4 to non-testers. I don't understand what it is about that language included in the agreement that's so difficult to understand. For one thing, I know Valve didn't want to talk about this Steam thing too much because they didn't want to give those oh-so-cool hax0rs the headstart on cracking it.

Speaking for myself, I can't comprehend why people feel the need to break such explicitly worded agreements. I'm not trying to single out anyone here, by the way. Perhaps it's selfishness, because they feel that their desires overreach those of Valve's in this matter. Perhaps it's pride, because they desire the community's appreciation for the privledged information. Perhaps they just don't care about Valve or their reasons for making a NDA and they would rather do as they please. Following directions is something that we all learned way back before kindergarten and is something that many people these days (not just Valve's beta testers) have lots of trouble with.

I would very much disagree with anyone who says the public has a "right" to know about 1.4, despite Valve's desires on the contrary. It's not up to us to decide who gets this information, it's Valve's to give, and they decided to clue some testers in on the condition that they would keep their mouths shut.

In my humble opinion the beta testers really screwed this one up in that respect. Next time Valve shouldn't be so trusting, even with such a dedicated and obviously enthusiastic community of gamers.

I totally agree JdeFalconr...I think Valve should be entitled to their privacy in the matter, but in the same way, why would you hire a journalist to do that sort of job? That's one question I dun understand. Anyhow, I think as a community, we failed on this one, but what's done is done, and what'll happen is what'll happen now. I just hope they dun get mad and decide to repay us by doin' something screwy to next version of CS *j/k*:)

Please tell me how will work MAP-MODE? Will it show ALL players? If it will then all cheats such as WallHack will show ALL players on ALL map!

In version 1.3 server returns only players that you may can see. Only for HLTV server returns coordinates of ALL players. So, I cannot understand how MAP-Mode will work? Servers will return ALL coordinate???

I agree with you to Jde, the info shouldn't have been released in the firstplace. I was simply clearing up what had already been stated. I was very careful not to reveal anything that had not already been said, and gave only my opinion on what has. Though on looking back, I probally should have refraimed from post in thr first place.

ok the main attraction to play cs is realism! now when i think of terrosists and anti-terrorists....bunny-hopping does not enter my mind

now cmon b/h is a pathetic way to win a shootout it makes a short game for n00bs and u end up with a server full of llama's ,

and every freak and weenie bunnyhopping around looks retarded and seems pointless eliminate b/h and every 1 is on evenground again

and will actually require skill instead of scripted skill

man it blows me away how many of you guys never played any of the Quakes or many of the other games online. Looks like most of you only have experience in CS and nothing else. This new spectator view was in Q2 and Q3 and I can tell you that it does not give you any more of a clue as to wether someone is using an aimbot. You still won't be able to distinguish between aimbot and good reflexes.

I hope we aren't going to have to put up with a ton more accusers now because of this new view. I can hear it now... YOUR CHEATING I SAW IT!!!
