overclockin part 1

I'm trying to overclock my wife but all I get is heat build up and then general instability.



Any help would be much appreciated.

oh by the way here are my specs: p4 2.4 g, 512 ram, geforce4 mx440,80 g harddrive, 19in flat sccreen. now tell me i dont have the hook up

first you buy an amd instead of a p4, but thats a totally different subject.



press delete when ur computer is booting (counting memory) is usually the way. look at the bottom of your screen if delete doesnt work, will usually say "Hit KEY to enter setup"



Oh yeah, and clock it to a 2.8 at least, cos my xp2400+ at 2 gig owns it at the moment. (not cos i am a "leet" overclocker but because i am an amd lover)

Is amdk6 500Mhz/TNT2/128mb ram suitable for overclocking?And will GF2 mx400 64mb work on that system?

i have an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ which is a 1.73 GHz comp, but i can only run it stably at 1.31Ghz. As many people would say, you wont see a difference in the two, but still, i expect the CPU to go at the speed it is designed to. Strange :/ I have a Gigabyte motherboard as well, that owns :p

did it come at 1.31 GHZ ? quite a few of my friends xp's were running under clocked cos they set their bios up wrong, so were loosing about 400mhz. Have you tried intamittant steps? If 1.3ghz truly is the max for stability get a bigger cpu heatsink/fan or get another case fan, cos its a waste (u paid for it, damn well should run at it)

I won't even try to overclock..right now its at 50C and I got around 60C while playing CS..... I have my case open and I have a small fan on the lowest setting blowing cool air into it. I need a new Heatsink, I took the one that came with the comp. I had selected one originally but since they told me it came already with one, I did not need to pick one. I'm going to change it soon. I have a AMD 1900 xp, 256 DDR and a crappy heatsink

well some stupid ass tried overclocking his comp, and from what i heard he really overdid it, seems like the thing exploded lol

If you know what you're doing, you can get a great overclock out of your rig. Currently I'm running my P4 1.8a @ 2.4GHz... 33% right there. A Swiftech heatsink keeps it at a nominal 26º centigrade. My GF3 Ti-200 is up from a core of 175MHz to 250 (30% increase) and the memory is up from 400MHz to 535 (25% increase).



Bottom line:



- Use Arctic Silver II/III/Alumina; no cream-cheese paste crap. Conductive paste helps heat dissipation rate. You may even want to put some on your chipsets and video RAM sinks.

- Go for the gusto on cooling; fans are cheap and you can put them anywhere. Use dual-intake and dual-exhaust 80mm's if your case can wield them. Get a good heatsink also; Swiftech and Alpha rock. Heavy gaming (especially at LANs with 50+ other PC's churning out massive heat in a small room) can cook your PC's innards.

- Read up on gear you want to overclock; chances are you will find specs on how high it can go before you attempt to overclock into the red zone.
