Oh wait, 30,000 people are playing iceworld. The community is a fickle, ambivalent bunch of poptarts!
Oh wait, those 30,000 people are the same assholes that made your shitty maps popular, fuckerhead. Not that fickle, really.

If you want a better look at what CS is supposed to be I suggest you watch some pro clan matches.
    Laugh riot.
For those that enjoy DM CS, fine, you have your own servers. For those that enjoy "serious" play, it's not tough to find that sort of people out there too.
On the contrary, it's excruciatingly hard to find those kinds of people in any decent numbers. Finding a decent server community is generally dependent on how much you're willing to let the admin's bullshit slide.
I see no reason why these three groups can't exist independent of one another.
Because they won't stay on their side of the goddamned fence, that's why. Iceworld players wouldn't be worth a second thought if we could quarantine the little bastards from the rest of the server/gene pool.
If you don't like the proliferation of styles of playing CS that are contrary to your own, then welcome to the real world, buddy.
There is no "play style" to be proliferated by FY_ players, unless "stupid" is now considered a style.

Anyone who has played it understands that it does have a world of strategies if you have the insight and patience to discover them.
Anyone who has played it understands that it is perfectly plausible for someone to do well on it using only the keyboard. I've got your insight and patience right here, mother fucker.
I wont go into a discussion of all these strategies here.
Because you don't know any and you're making shit up as you go.
It is worth noting that camping behind walls does not serve you particularly well on fy_iceworld
Because there are what, 2 walls to actually duck behind? Or is it because the map just doesn't "feel right" unless every player is making as much noise as possible, removing all elements of stealth? Or that it takes a whole 2 seconds to get anywhere on the map, which removes all elements of environmental tactics?
and consequently, forces many players to improve their close-range combat skills.
    Read: Holding down the trigger.

You know there's strategy in the map when it allows people the opportunity to fine tune their ability to hold the mouse button down.

Dude, one time i saw someone playing iceworld, and i could just tell he was a badass. He was so awesome that he could press the mouse button and finish the round before the button even made a click sound! That's pretty fuckin' leet right there.
the entertainment value is very high.
    No.
When good sportsmanship prevails, teamwork and strategy are what really matter.
...On every map that isn't fy_iceworld.

This is so true, on the fact that fy_iceworld fans take the map too seriously and forget what map rotation is and eventually get their asses slaughtered in some of narby's maps...

I've got good news! There's a map for that sort of thing! No doubt you see where this is going.

It's not true CS. You'll never see fy_iceworld in the CPL. It's cotton candy fluff. But it CAN be fun if you're in the mindframe for it. Idealists need not apply.

            --Scanner

We have met the enemy, and he is us.

no, you're up and running, getting valuable aiming practice and weapon familiarity in a matter of seconds.

Once the newbie feels he's got the hang of staying alive, maybe then he tries his hand at true CS maps, and can keep from getting killed long enough to sort of get to know the layout of maps, how objectives and strategy works etc.

And all this could have been avoided if we'd just been a little more friendly with the fellow in the first place.

The true decay of Counter-Strike can be traced back to the attitude of the people, not a silly map.

            --Scanner
Scanner u are a true scholar i salute you. The fact of the matter is eveyone has rights to their own tastes and standards, and whatever flicks ya switch you should be allowed to do with impunity, thats what democracy is about, (TAKE NOTE U USA PEEPS!)

And as for spirit of coimmunity and all that, yes its diminshing although i rather think that has more to do withthe rapid decline of society itself, (lets not go there ok!)

I run the official maps on my server, but I see no harm in playing a little iceworld, pool day2 or scoutzknivez. I think they serve as training grounds for n00bs, like myself. Would you believe it that my average accuracy has rasied three fold since i started playing iceworld at least one heavy session a week. I also find using the silly piss about mods, like laser dot (AMX MOD) a good training tool. I suppose thats sacreligous too. Matrix mode can add different fun elements to the game, yes its not the orignal idea of cs, However, CS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL IDEA OF HL, so grow up, and respect others wishes you odnt like fy maps, dont play em. Very very simple.

I am genuine evidence of fy, and the aim maps, serving as a training tool. I have been playing for 6 months or so now, And i couldnt get ranked on apublic for love nor money, Bang, I find a nack for middle and short range aiming from playing middle and shport range aim and fy maps, I dont have to wait for twenty minutes cos i got kileld at the beginning and the bloody ts are camping at base on dust, or azzie or whatever map, I just listen to some tunes, do some 'admin' and then get in for fraggin, yes fraggin, not Combat, which is how i see proper cs.

So i have now been playing these 'sily' maps for the last month and a half. The result, I got ranked in top 15 last week, on a pub (Supanet Azzie, and i was lucky hterre were few awp hos on that day), which is reknowned for the amount of cheaters on it, in fact I got accused, That was such a buzz and a compliment, and tbh, i owe it to the amount of aiming training with all eweapons i have had from iceworld and its contemporaries.

I still need more scoutzknivez training cos i cant snipe for sh*t! Agan the limited range on most of those maps, is probably why i have such an abhorrance (look it up thicko) to awp as ya die before you get to see em mostly.

Bringin me to why it is wonderful to play custom cs de maps, cos new maps mean a level playing field. You must drill maps so hard to learn all the typical places that people be, so you develop that sixth sense of experience on maps. To look behind THAT crate etc. New maps, level playing field, I frequently do well on airstrip due to this im sure! And to all of you who are gonna flame me for being a n00b, you just proved scanners point!

Mouth, u have some valid opinions and obviously have strong view points, do u run your own server? And therefore do you not have to let the admins bullshit slide? Cos if you can do it better you should and if you cant be bothered or dont want to stfu. Cos You rely on those of us that shell out the money for a server to run the game as we want. So basically Mr, I am the Man, Put up or shut up....

Oh yeah, how come i never see people getting vexed inthese posts offfering each other out ina 1v1 or anything? Not that imoffering you out, Im crap, thoguh your welceom to join ma server sometime and check it out! As are any n00bs, likewise if someone is ridiculously good, they may well be aske dto leave, cos a truly good player wouldnt want to beat up on defenceless n00bs would he? and if he did then the shit desrved to be banned!

And finally the game is called FOOTBALL not soccer bloody yanks its our game, you perverted it and called it football when in reality u play rugby for poofs (wearing armour, how ghey is that!), bunch o bleeding panies! Cmon the pool,

Anyways thats my two penneth worth

My personal belief is it depends on how you play CS.

If you just play for fun and really care less about it, sure fy_iceworld is a great map for you.

If you play for professional level and want to make it with a team and such, You probably shouldnt like this map.

My clan and I are going for pro and arent going to bother with maps like this.

AS stands for 'Assassination', if you didn't notice.

CS doesn't stand for anything, but since hostage rescue was CS's first objective, that's what it's for.

fy_maps are probably best made by new mappers to practice there mapping skills. I much more appreciate maps like yours Narby then those made for deathmatch. Your maps I know even if it I'm on the short end of a 1 on 6 I still can win by completing the objective.

The fact the tactical element is more or less destroyed by the ability of one guy to win the round with a gun that kill in one hit. Not to mention the chances of the VIP not being a total asshole, looking for people to kill with his USP or killing himself for 3 successive rounds to get out of being the VIP.

Not really, the CTs have to come up with ways to protect him, which can mean anything from "everyone crowd around him" to a complex formation with people scouting ahead to secure the area. Once the CTs have a plan, the Ts need to compensate for that, which could mean rushes, elaborate camping spots, or any number of things that I'm just too lazy to type out.

These are the kinds of people that we've all been complaining about, the people who are looking for nothing but deathmatch.

Not to mention the chances of the bomb carrier being someone who will plant the bomb, as opposed to someone who can't see the little green C4 symbol on their HUD. Although the new 3-point shot for planting gives it a boost.

How about a similar system for other maps? 1 point per hostage rescued? 3 points for escaping or assassinating?
