MikeJ wrote..It also means paying through the nose for a graphics card that shouldn't be necessary. That "2 years down the road"? That'll be another $500 for shit that'll be outdated in 6 months. That broadband? That's for patches. No one really needs an "interactive world" where you can see the bumpmapped skidmarks on underwear that's hanging on a clothes line. Shenmue did just fine with what it had. A "more interactive world" means jack, and is NOT the make-or-break feature of a game. I don't want to have a game where a butterfly flaps its wings 200 virtual miles away and cause a tree to inexplicably fall on me.
It's not just eye candy. Better graphics and better physics mean a more interactive world.
PC gaming is about hardware and your willingness to pay way too much for it, just so you can play yet another FPS or MMORPG. Consoles actually make the DEVELOPERS work for better graphics and gameplay, whereas PC developers are getting far to comfortable in saying "Welp, fuck the framerate. nVidia is coming out with a new card soon anyway. Fuck QA too, we'll just release a 'beta' and let the players do the work".
I figure that with PCs, i can spend hundreds of dollars to play 2-3 games that will work only under mysterious voodoo magic, and will most likely require a patch before i even open the box. With a console, i can be guaranteed games from damn near every genre from people who damn well KNOW how to make games, such as Konami, Capcom, Namco, Rare, Square, Nintendo, et al. And guess what? They'll actually fucking work. And they'll work WITHOUT having to depend on the ability to play with thousands of idiots online.
I'm sure there are reasons for liking the PC better than a console, and i'm sure they'd make for good debate. Yours just fucking suck.
