A new rumor surfaced this week saying that there will be HD remasters coming for both Shenmue and Shenmue 2. This is according to a "trusted source close to Atlus USA."
This rumor is essentially an update to an earlier rumor that began last year when Sega hinted that a Shenmue HD remaster was potentially coming. Sega even went so far as to register the ShenmueHD.com domain.
It's probably a safe bet that if this rumor pans out, we will see the games released prior to the release of Shenmue 3, which is now rumored for a 2018 release. What better way to drum up interest in the long-absent sequel then by getting entirely new generations of players into the series for the first time.
According to Rice Digital, they were also told that it was "safe to assume a PC/Steam release."
