  • Report: Nintendo NX is Portable Console with Detachable Controllers

According to a report by Eurogamer, the Nintendo NX is a portable console that features detachable controllers. Keep in mind that Nintendo has not yet announced anything about the NX just yet. What Eurogamer is reporting on here should be considered a rumor until otherwise confirmed.

Eurogamer says that the NX will feature a centralized screen and two detachable controllers on the left and the right of the screen. This means that you can play on the go and when you get home, you can connect the system to the TV and keep playing there with the controllers detached from the device for easier use.

In addition, they say that the device will be powered by Nvidia's Tegra processor, a component made for powerful mobile devices. Sources have also told Eurogamer that the NX will go back to using cartridges. How this will work is currently unknown. Some have said that Nintendo is already recommending at least a 32GB cartridge for games. In this case, think of cartridges as being less like the Game Boy and NES cartridges and more akin to a high capacity and high speed memory stick, like the ones you use in phones or cameras.

Unfortunately, Nintendo seems to once again favor innovation above achieving graphical parity with other platforms. They are going to make sacrifices to graphical power in order to cram as much of this technology into the device as possible while keeping it a reasonable size. This is, of course, not something a good number of Nintendo fans wanted to hear.

Of course, this is all a rumor at this point. While it may not be what fans of Nintendo's consoles wanted to hear, it should make for a great update to the handheld world. It could also serve, if priced reasonably, as a great second platform for those that already own a gaming PC, or Xbox One, or PlayStation 4.
