  • Germany Lifts Seven Year Ban on Fallout 3

Germany, being Germany, banned Fallout 3 in 2009 due to its violent content. A censored version was eventually released there but as the Internet will make damn sure it tells you: censorship sucks. Why lift the ban now? Because Bethesda wasn't going to put up with that crap and "initiated a difficult and rarely-successful trial" with the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Minors.

    They won.
"In the case of Fallout 3, the request for delisting was granted even though only seven years passed since the game was banned," a BPJM member said in a statement. "The Big Council decided at its meeting on 4 February that Fallout 3 will be removed from the list because its content is no longer classified as harmful to minors from today's perspective."

If Bethesda didn't win this, the ban would've run out in three more years anyway. But I guess this is more of a moral victory than anything? It's weird though, because Fallout 4 was released without any issue in Germany, so why fight for Fallout 3? Perhaps Bethesda is planning on doing a bit of a re-release for the current-gen platforms? Hm, maybe! Or maybe not. But maybe!
