Ubisoft Opposes EA Over the Use of the Word "Ghost"

Oh man, this is really stupid. It's not quite "Fine Bros. trademark the word 'react'" levels of stupid, but it's damn close. Ubisoft's legal team has filed an opposition to trademark registration against EA over the use of the word "Ghost."

See, Ubisoft makes those Ghost Recon games. EA has a game development studio that they called Ghost. Ghost made the last couple Need for Speed (Need for Speed Rivals (2013), Need for Speed (2015)) games. Ubisoft is worried that people are going to confuse the two totally separate uses of the word, Ghost, and that it will damage the Ghost Recon franchise as a result.

To make a long story short, EA has until March 9 to get their initial response back about this whole matter. It's not a lawsuit per se just yet, but it could become one in the future if the legal battle decides to heat up in the year ahead.
