  • After Watch Dogs Ubisoft to Ditch Mature Games on Wii U

Believe it or not, Ubisoft is still gearing up to release Watch Dogs on the Wii U. Shocking, right? Something that probably isn't shocking is that after Watch Dogs is finally released on the Wii U, Ubisoft will no longer develop Mature rated games for the platform.

Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot, explains why.
"It's very simple. What we see is that Nintendo customers don't buy Assassin’s Creed. Last year, we sold in very small numbers.

"What we see is that they are very interested in Just Dance, very interested by other kinds of games. So what we are trying to do is to focus more on the types of games they are interested in."

This really shouldn't be too surprising to anyone. Other third party developers have already abandoned or nearly abandoned development for the latest Nintendo console.

What else is Ubisoft up to these days? Well, they're going to keep an eye on how EA's Access program holds up with fans.
"I think it makes the publisher more important in the player's mind. Often, people are only interested in one brand from a publisher, so they don’t look for other brands. When you buy into something like Access, you can try other things for free and discover other things you like. It’s a way to make sure gamers can get more info on what we do and the diversity of our portfolio.

"When you look on your console, you have many channels and you want that diversity. Instead of saying everything’s in one place, we can say 'Okay, try these channels: EA, Ubi, Activision'."

If the idea of having multiple subscription services from a number of publishers doesn't scare you yet, it really should. That will be $60 per year per "channel", thank you for your patronage!
