  • Crytek Lays Off Employees from Austin Offices

Following the sale of Crytek UK and the Homefront IP to Deep Silver, Crytek revealed some major restructuring throughout a few of their other studios. Hardest hit are the remains of Crytek UK and Crytek Austin.

Crytek UK might not be that doomed as Deep Silver is looking to acquire staff for their new studio, Deep Silver Dambuster Studios. The good news here is that most of those that were at Crytek UK are making the move to the Deep Silver studio to continue work on Homefront: The Revolution. The actual number of people making the move has not yet been revealed, however.

Sadly, Crytek Austin has laid off most of its development team. The studio will remain open but will only serve as a support team for other studios that license the CryEngine in North America. The Austin studio was working on Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, but that will now move to Crytek's Frankfurt studio.
"As we look to cement Crytek’s future, this strategic deal with Koch Media would allow us to continue with our ambitious goals to become an online publisher,” Crytek chief executive officer Cevat Yerli said in a statement. “With Warface, Arena of Fate, and Hunt, we believe we have the perfect portfolio and teams to make that happen. We would like to thank all our staff – past and present – in both Nottingham and Austin for their contributions to the company, and we wish all the very best to anyone who may no longer be under the Crytek banner moving forward."

Crytek goes on to say that they will offer some of those who lost their jobs in Austin the opportunity to work in their offices in Germany. That would be quite the commute.

This comes over a week after David Adams quietly left the Austin studio. Why? Because he wasn't getting paid.
