'No Internet? Stick with the Xbox 360' is Apparently Microsoft's Current Stance on the Xbox One Hate

"If you have zero access to the Internet, that (the 360) is an offline device. I mean, when I read the blogs and thought about who really is the most impacted, there was a person who said ‘hey, I’m on a nuclear sub’ – and I don’t even know what it means to be on a nuclear sub - but I imagine it’s not easy to get an internet connection. I can empathize, if I was on a sub, I'd be disappointed."

Smooth, real smooth there Don Mattrick. That was Microsoft's Don Mattrick in an interview with GTTV's Geoff Keighley in talking about the need for the Xbox One to be connected to the Internet once every 24 hours.

Viacom, the company that owns GT and subsequently controls GTTV has been very actively taking down this clip from YouTube. Fortunately, since this is the Internet, a number of mirrors are already up and running. Could we perhaps interest you in a Liveleak mirror?

Perhaps instead you would prefer an official mirror from the Gametrailers YouTube channel with an appropriate time stamp in the interview that takes you directly to the above quote, in full?

I debated on posting this up as news, but this is just too much of a "foot in mouth" scenario to not show to a wider audience. Also there's some weird rumor going around (nothing confirmed) that Microsoft may have paid off some people to not even air the Sony conference on a certain show on SpikeTV. Again, just crazy rumors. Rumors and jokes guys! Lots of 'em!

I don't care about Microsoft's failed attempts to justify looking down on the less fortunate/privileged. I want to know where the heck your newspost is regarding the already ended Zips' Nap Conference. There's no freaking available YouTube video archive, and nobody else has covered it. I want a newspost with a summary and highlights list on what happened during the E3 Nap Conference damn it! I heard rumors that nightmares and bad snacks were involved, and I want clarifications!

The nap conference is perpetually "forthcoming." There was no nap today and is always tentatively rescheduled for "tomorrow."

Damn it! I'll never find out if the rumours are true! Ugh, I'm stuck with the E3 Permanent Insomnia highlight videos and they're soooooo boring! Why would the Nap Conference be put on indefinite hold?! E3 only has a few days, the conference can't afford another delay!

They're disconnected Jimy. They dont think about the countries that have internet caps or the cities with the crappy infrastructure where the internet is down hours or days at a time.

They work for Microsoft now, in Seattle or in California where those cities have used tax dollars to make the internet 100% reliable for everyone (well, most everyone) and they can't even comprehend not having to limit themselves on what they download or power bills or outages.

They use an extreme example of a submarine that no one can argue that it would be hard to get internet. But the choice is clear, stay with the 360....or if you want a next gen console, get a PS4.

I don't think Mattrick really agrees with what he is saying.

Whoever is responsible for this, they are definitely disconnected.

They probably have different limitations and requirements and stuff in other countries, much like how World of Warcraft is free-to-play in some countries but definitely not in the US.

It's amazing how often the US can be ignorant of what's going on in other countries, even and especially with global companies that have a presence here in the US.

"Free to play". But yeah, I see the point. But I never thought that such a multimilliondollar company could be so numb about what's really happening? Even with the whole internet, everywhere, telling them how wrong they are? It's like the ps4 will already outsell the Xone by 100 to 1

They're Microsoft. They control something like 80% of the desktops and who knows % of consoles. It doesnt matter if you dont like it. What are you going to do?

We see the problem, but most average joes are just thinking about when they get their next Xbox. They dont care about these restrictions, they just want to play.

To be fair, what was he supposed to say?

He was asked a question that he obviously can't answer in a way that pleases anyone. But instead of brushing off the question or ignoring it, he plugged another Microsoft device, even though it just sounds silly.

It blows my mind a little every time, but so far most people i've spoken to including many of my friends have been unaware of any of the restrictions and rules laid out my Microsoft.

They see the price and say "that's pretty expensive" then they see Halo and say "I'm buying an Xbox One".
Fortunately my PC friends have seen and read it all, weird that PC users seem to be the most informed.

Because PC are the master race. They are smarter, that's why they choose PC.

As a Service Technician that drives from a Metropolitan city out to businesses and plants located in Rural counties I face-palmed at the submarine comment. There are areas less than 30 minutes from major cities that struggle to get basic cellular service and even 250kbps+ internet connections due to topography and sparse populations. A better example is actually Little Billy on the farm whose Dad doesn't realize that new fangled gaming thing has to hook up to some wires other than power to actually work. There are lots of kids out in the Boondocks who struggle to get any kind of decent telecommunications access. Driving out in those areas I see by far more satellite dishes than cable/broadband connections. Add some inclement weather and you got no TV and no Interwebz.

And last time i checked Modern Subs go to a shallow depth and pop up their communications array. Which is probably more technologically advanced than the amazing Xbone. Then again if an Xbone could launch a precision strike warhead at a target hundreds of miles away I might actually be tempted to buy one.
"We're all very different people. We're not Watusi. We're not Spartans. We're Americans, with a capital 'A', huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We're the underdog. We're mutts! Here's proof: his nose is cold! But there's no animal that's more faithful, that's more loyal, more loveable than the mutt." -John Winger (Bill Murray) Stripes
