Geoff Keighley Has Xbox Live Account Compromised, Receives Near Immediate DM from Head of Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement

Just a few hours ago, the host of GameTrailers TV Geoff Keighley, noticed that one of his Xbox Live accounts was compromised and the person ended up spending quite a considerable amount on "Gold Jumbo Packs." Doing what anybody in the same situation would do, Keighley contacted Xbox support and was informed that his account would take up to 25 days to be investigated and during that time his account would be locked from access.

Taking the message to Twitter, Keighley was given a few responses back from gamers in similar situations, but he was also sent a message from Stephen Toulouse, Xbox Live's Director of Policy and Enforcement. Literally, the response time between Keighley's Tweet and Toulouse telling him to send him a private message was just about one hour.

Fun times - looks like one of my XBOX Live accounts was just hacked and someone had fun buying a lot of "GOLD JUMBO PACKS" today.

Just talked to Xbox Live support - My Xbox Live account will now be locked for *25 DAYS* while they conduct an investigation!

@Stepto Thanks, just sent you a DM

Now, there's no saying if Keighley's account was already fixed or will be fixed within the next day or two, but there are people out there who have been waiting months to hear back anything concerning their compromised account, myself included. Where are the personal messages from Stepto to the rest of us?

Someone I know has been waiting over three months for full access to be restored. I've been waiting over two and a half months now just to have Microsoft Points refunded that the person who gained access to my account had spent. Someone else is nearing the one month waiting mark. This is beyond unacceptable at this point.

If you haven't already, or simply need a refresher, check out our previous coverage on this topic.

If they wait long enough then everyone will have a 720 and they will have a new excuse for extending it.

Gotta sweep it under the rug. This guy could expose that there is an Xbox live issue. Keep him and the other famous people quiet and Xbox doesnt have to worry about it.

Which is exactly the point behind Zips' news post. Question remains whether this will have any impact towards raising awareness or not. Only time will tell. I'd like to think there are more news posts regarding this issue than just TGN/CS-Nation, so silencing the major (media) players may not be enough when everyone else is spreading the word. Just takes more time.

Apologies for the double-post, but I'm too stupid to see that I have the ability to edit posts figuring it has mysteriously disappeared again. I just wanted to say I would also like to think TGN is well-known enough (with their years of history in media) to cause some kind of effect towards change and improvement in the issues of customer service (security is rather impossible to guarantee, which is why the issue at hand is the nearly non-existant response to the problem). I would be rather upset if representatives of our voice as customers are limited to IGN, Gamespot, GameTrailers (EBA?), and Shacknews. Strength in the complaint should be about numbers rather than the impact of a company's legacy.

I've linked Geoff Keighley to the article from about a month ago when the issue was first brought up by us. The one that's linked in the OP above and contains sources from Neowin, neoGAF, and Ars Technica.

Looks like he's gathering reports from people and sites and hopefully something will come of it. He did respond to the Tweet about the article so here's hoping he's taken a look at it.

From what I hear, Shacknews might also be investigating this issue now as well.

Link to original article once again for those that have missed it: http://csnation.net/content.php?728-...count-Security

Even now, he's still reassuring everybody that he's investigating the issue, and realizes it's a widespread issue. As you said, here's hoping this makes Microsoft prioritize this issue sooner out of media awareness and pressure. I don't understand the link between Xbox Live account hijacks and FIFA 12 though. Why that game? Is EA responsible for this vulnerability? Or does the game reward you with money if you play/cheat well therefore has people exploiting this opportunity?

Also thanks for merging my posts. I hate looking like I'm too lazy to follow simple standardized forum rules. Double-posts are ugly. (I made one more edit after you merged it untouched.)
