Three Reasons to Pass on Battlefield 3

The "knowledgeable" folks at Planet Xbox 360 have given a list of three reasons why you should pass on Battlefield 3. The first two reasons are already laughable and I'll let you read those on your own. However, here is their number one reason why gamers, notably console gamers, should pass on Battlefield 3.

    1. Modern Warfare 3 - Call of Duty is the current king of console shooters and whether you'd like to believe it or not, that isn't going to change any time soon. With a solid multiplayer experience that is being refined on a yearly basis, Modern Warfare 3 is certain to become the most popular game on Xbox Live. In addition, there's no doubt that Activision and Infinity Ward will be working hard to pump out DLC at a steady rate, keeping the franchise that much further ahead of the competition.

While people may like to root for Battlefield 3 as the underdog, the Call of Duty franchise is just too popular to take down. You can be sure that all your friends will be picking up MW3 and playing it for months to come, so when your gaming time is limited - as it likely will be during the holiday craze - you're best off sticking with a sure thing.

I can't help but read this article and picture them just wearing trollface masks while writing it. This is honestly the dumbest list I've seen anywhere for any reason about any topic.

Re: Three Reasons to Pass on Battlefield 3

There are reasons to pass on BF3.

    1) The done to death middle-east contemporary setting - so bored of this now but what the fuk else is there!

    2) Is it a real BF experience? Commo-rose, huge maps, squads, tactics, vehicles etc etc. Seemingly these are in place.

    3) The ever encroaching claws of EA. Origin REQUIRED! GTFO with your adware crap!.

    MW3 - nigga please!

Wow... Thats not news. Thats a full blown fucking advertisement. Someone should DDOS that shit now. (Or hack in and change all the reasons and make it a spoof article incase the DDOS backfires)

Thank you Planet XBox 360 for this incredibly entertaining and unbelievably stupid article, hope you didn't break a sweat at any point in time during the thought process of this assignment.
          <r></r>
          3. Are you kidding me? Refined on a yearly basis? IT'S MODERN WARFARE TWO BUT WITH PRETTIER PIXELS AND DOGS WITH EXPLOSIVES ATTACHED TO THEM.
          <r></r>
          2. Your logic is that you need a powerful, super PC to play BF3 to enjoy it and all of its glory? I dare you to ask every alpha tester out there if they had a crappy time playing the game at low settings, since that's what it's set to by default, for now.
          <r></r>
          1. Yeah, it's just another FPS, but oh wait, in BF3 you get to actually blow that house up instead of taking a brutal assrape from that same dude who hid in that house for the entire round, a la COD.
          <r></r>
DICE has done alot to change Battlefield as a game, and honestly with each release (From 2142 to BC2) they just keep getting better and better, and I'm just talking about FPS's here.

Anyone else also notice that this game is playing more towards the PC and PS3 players and this is a xbox 360 oriented site? I really dislike heavily bias articles like this. This is more of an ad for MW3 then it is for legit reasons to pick up BF3.

Yeah, either this article is an ad that Activision payed well for or its a troll thing. I like the comments and how the console players are calling BS on it.

My favorite comment was how could you go with MW3 with reasons 3 and 2? It just doesnt make any sense.

Assuming we're supposed to read Mr. Osborn's article in the proper context, he must be implying military first-person shooters, rather than general first-person shooters (otherwise listing Rage as a superior example within reason #3 makes no sense). As for reason #2, CoD: MW3 may be more catered to console players compared to BF3, and there is an implied emphasis that higher frame rates are more important than innovations in game engines (graphics/physics/sound).

The key here is to understand that consoles are consistent, whereas computers are not; this means that PC gamers may not actually get the full experience of BF3, while console gamers can't get it period. CoD players will have the full experience on consoles, and may get the full experience on PC as the engine doesn't require as much (plus their game design revolves around smaller and quicker games).

I do wonder what Mr. Osborn meant by smooth gaming in competitive scenarios... Does he mean the competitive nature in online multiplayer, or does he mean competitive events? If it's the latter, then usually organizers use sponsored computer equipment that is guaranteed to run BF3 at full frame rate and graphical settings. Not sure why he brought that up.

It's interesting to see many readers point out through their Facebook comments, how CoD: MW3 is being praised in reason #1, yet is exempt from being a military first-person shooter (again this is my interpretation of the proper context) set out in reason #3. I'd like to hear out Mr. Osborn's explanation regarding that.

Thats a good point and I think you approached the article well.

The problem is that the writer left out the facts for Battlefield 3 on console, making it a better game for a console player, such as:

                            1. The Frostbite 2 engine was rebuilt from the ground up, not once, but three times for each platform. That means the engine is specifically designed and catered to Xbox, PC, and PS3.

                            2. The new technology DICE added in the engine to help push the console games to the max for smoothest play and operation. http://csnation.net/showthread.php?362078-Frostbite

                            3. That there are seperate teams working on each platform.

                            4. That even though the maps are a bit smaller and player count a bit lower than the PC, the same maps, equipment, weapons, and vehicles will be in all the platforms.

                            5. That a lot of ideas were imported into BF3 from BC2, which was a huge success on console and originally designed for console.

                            6. Vehicles.

                            7. Single player and Co-Op added to Battlefield.

So anyway, if we ignore all these facts, not opinions or lopsided ideas, then yeah, I can see why console players would not want to pick up BF3.

Another thing Activision has been touting about is not seeing Xbox footage. Well, anyone think that maybe Sony bought a little advertising time with DICE? Seen the co-op trailer? Looks pretty sharp for a console game.

Another good point you brought up, that I didnt think about, was the "MW3 is not a military shooter." aspect of it. I always thought it was. I guess the run-n-gun style makes it someting else maybe, I dont know.
