EDIT. Dammit, forgot my external HDD at home today. Guess I won't be installing BF2 and 1.41 today.

EDIT2. If it took them 1 year and 3 BETAs to develop the BF2 patch, I feel sorry for the BF2142 folks. Err...there is not mention of the no CD thing. and with 1.41 and 1.5 well over 2GB why not just release a full installer since the normal DVD installer doesn't work right in Vista anyways and the game shouldn't need a DVD anymore. On clean installer that I can keep on my external with the my CD keys (pleural).

Why would you have to purchase them again? After I bought them I saved the installers on a DVD. My account has both boosters tied to it, so I have been able to just run those installers and play. Fat lot of good it's done me the last couple of years with only time-pad servers running EF and AF, but at least installation wasn't painful. Northern Strike, on the other hand... :shudder shudder:

And us dummies that got them off EA Downloader would have to purchase them again.

After I acquired the install files I just located where they downloaded to onto my hard drive and burned them to a backup disc, on each subsequent reinstall of BF2 over the years all I had to do was run the setup.exe for the booster packs, you don't even need to have EA Downloader installed to use them.

I've never had a problem with any of the booster packs, BF2142's booster pack works the same way.

I'm most excited about the improve hit detection, accuracy loss when imediately going prone and firing, the J-10 vs. F-35 balancing, increased Anti-Air missile effectiveness, improved Blackhawk miniguns (closer to what they used to be originally), and being able to prone past claymores.

I am mad as hell that the booster packs are free, sure I'd be happy if I didn't already have them. But I speant money on all of them and now anybody can get them. And I wish theyd fix load times. Ok update, but really? I sound like a whiny 14 year old, but I just don't think the wait was worth it. I wish it added more behind the scenes support for the decent mods out there.

Sure you may well have spent money on the booster packs but you couldnt bloody play them cos there are practically no servers running them BECAUSE:

A) Not enough people are owning/playing the booster packs

B) The packs have to be run seperate from vanilla.

C) The above means that server admins will not run the booster packs!

You should be grateful that you are now actually getting an opportunity to play the damn things! This patch is absolutely excellent news for anyone remotely interested in BF2 yet you are whinging like a little ***** over the fact you spend a few quid on these (probably 2 years ago, like I did).

Because EF&AF are original content/free updates converted to "booster packs" because they knew idiots were gonna buy them.

It's because SF was done by DICE Canada, not DICE Sweden. Thus the two are quite different and are kept apart.

such great news and people still find things to cry about. Hell i bought the damn booster packs too and am freaking happy now that i can play them again with real people! They are some sweet maps. If you find yourself complaining in any way about this news then you truly are a miserable human being.

I have been refreshing this site's main page 20 times daily for news of the patch, I just shat myself... Now my questions are:

Will the install cause problems if you already have the booster packs installed? I know currently I have to have EA Downloader running for the maps to work properly.

Also, if are using various launch options to get widescreen support currently, should we be disabling these (my guess is yes) once we patch?

i bought BF2 complete and i don't think i ever got to try out AF+EF, so this is good news i guess.

you paid $10 for them and have been playing them for almost 2 years.....get over it and be happy there might be more than time padding severs running those maps. want to fix the load times? get a SSD harddrive or raid some raptors.....its not DICE's fault you have a major bottleneck in your PC called a platter harddrive.

ill agree, its certainly not worth the wait but then again its a 4 year old game...not many developers support or dedicate resources to supporting a 4 year old game so dont look a gift horse in the mouth. mods were doomed when it comes to player count since EA had the bright idea to rank servers, there's nothing that will ever change that.

now i think they could of made things much more interesting by adding the grappling hook and zip line to all kits and all maps..........
