These days they just stamp those discs out by the millions.

There are reasons PC gamers feel entitled to lower prices.
A: We have to pay to provide our own servers. We maintain and admin those servers ourselves while paying rental fees and/or the boxes themselves plus bandwidth.
B: There is no middleman to take licensing fees. Sony and Microsoft charge for development tools and the privilege of releasing content on their machines. That doesn't exist on the PC. So extra fees are nothing more than extra money because they think they can take it.
C: Support after the sale. Most of the time, PC gamers get patches and Map Packs and updates long after the consoles, if at all. We also get a lot of responses such as the gem from TreyArch's community manager in my sig.

For this game to be worth the extra cash up front, IW would have to either provide and admin servers or release extra content in a timely fashion along with the consoles. Since their previous performance indicates that neither of those will happen, where will the extra value for the extra money originate? What will they provide to make this game worth more?
They expect us to pay extra and line up just to be treated like bastard stepchildren again? No thanks, gents.:shakehead:
Ah well. I understand your point.
I guess there's nothing saying they haven't and there's nothing saying they have.

But PC gamers want to step up and get this stuff then they will have to pay the cash I guess. 50$ to $60 isn't that bad a compromise.
I don't claim to know anything about this at all but Battlefield has charged for added content, if we got that for a fee in Call of Duty I think people would be more upset and expect this content for free is all I am saying.
I will be purchasing it as a fan of the series i'll just get the next version for some of the extra goodies up front.

I for one will no longer be getting this game. It would have to come with a free 'perfect woman' to justify this insanity.

The economy excuse as stated is complete non-sense.
      As stated in another thread.

$99? Isn't that what games usually are priced here? I see no reason to boycott. I would only get slightly angry if it was $120 like console games.

They're making it easier and easier to decide whether or not to support it.

Well, if this Vista sidebar currency thing is correct, USD = 80 dollars (about).

If this is the case, then getting the NVG's at 150 USD is cheaper, with all the stuff you get.

Just to clear up some things, go here to Gamestop.com to see the prices of the different versions. It's only $59.99 for the regular PC version, but, if we pay this, will they hike the price again? I mean, if it is b/c of the map packs, I somewhat like the idea b/c then it's not splitting the community up later on by having some people pay the $10 for a map pack, and others not.

There are TONS of good points in this thread. I'm ecstatic with the opinions put into this thread, all within less than 24 hours.

And yes...as a PC gamer, I realize more and more that we are getting put on the complete backburner, and not to mention, I am kind of getting somewhat sick of the same gameage each time, hence why I was looking around at say ArmA, but it wasn't for me. Maybe this is the result some predicted of having a new CoD every year. The saturation effect maybe happening. I've started playing more console games or other genres such sports with games like Fifa or Fight Night Round 4 for something fun and different.

In fact, I even went to Best Buy tonight to look at nice LED LCD tvs, sound systems, etc for my PS3 b/c I fear that gameage seems to be heading that route. If they would make the PC/mouse combo work better for consoles, I wouldn't have much of a problem going that way, but currently, FPS games suck on the consoles compared to PC. Other games are fine, or even better, like sports, adventure, fighting, action, etc, which some of those games don't even come to the PC and they're great games.

Thanks to all the people voting, and for all of your input, keep it coming. Hopefully, IW will take note of this thread.

Re: Will You Boycott MW2 if the Price Doesn't Go Back to Normal?

One other thing... If they are looking to foot the bill for some PC servers with the price increase I actually will not buy the game.

I like the fact that now, even though we as consumers are paying to run our own server, I would rather be able to connect to a server I know them at, they seem more personable. I'd rather connect to a server I frequent than be at the mercy of "Quick Match" in other words.

It's a double edged sword I suppose... pay the extra 10$ and still have to pay for your "own" server or pay the extra 10$ and only be allowed to connect to "theirs". This is pure speculation on my part and should be treated as such...considering what we've been weighing up.

Dude! I totally agree, if this happens my Desktop will be a Laptop and I will just browse with it, hit up forums and Social networks :)

I had the same thoughts some years ago when the original Xbox was launched.
But in the end I discovered that the consoles were great for arcade games, but the games lacked the depth that you could find in games like the Battlefield series and various MMORPGs.
Thats not necessarily because of technical limitations in the consoles, there just seem to be a different mindset when creating console games. And so far multi-platform has always meant console games on the PC, not the other way around.
I cant imagine any console game keeping me interested for hundreds of hours, and the price difference is also enough that I don't feel like taking a chance on a console game.

Of course I also have the problem that my family share one television, while I pretty much have the heavy-duty PC for myself

In england the unspoken rule for a basic game is £40. Now it is £55

WTF. Me, and most of england if it breaches 60 will not get this!

Agreed. If you can pick the server you play on, you can often get a bunch of regulars that play on the same server and have a good time where as you otherwise often end up with complete strangers constantly which is boring. And not get placed on a map you absolutely hate.

If memory serves me, I paid $44.95 for Ghost Recon in 2001.Ever since, I have been paying ever increasing prices for PC games. It leveled out at $49.95

Is $59.99 too much for a PC game? Well, it is the price of the console games, right?

Inflation, higher prices for stuff, production costs, whatever, I guess I think its ok.
I will buy the game regardless. But then again, just the game. Not the special packages.

im not buying it if i hear the multiplayer sucks. it probably wont but I have a feeling that they probably ****ed up the perk system and probably nerf the weapons

                            as for the price,

                            NEWEGG.COM

they usually sell new games 7 bucks cheaper with free shipping.

either that or wait for steam to have an awesome holiday sale. i bet they will sell the game for mega cheap on a weekend or black friday

I voted no but having a look on google I have found plenty of etailers in the Uk selling pre order for £29, which is pretty normal considering most pc games sell for around £25-£30 online over here.

Maybe you guys state side are being ripped off I dunno

yeah, maybe they are. I was informed that the Australian copies would be sold for $100, which is the usual price for a lot of games.
