This wouldn't be happening if it wasn't the popularity of CoD on consoles.

I just hope they make it dif on console and PC, it felt like they just peeked over the console devs shoulders to get stuff for the PC.

        CoD7: Civil war maybeh? :p

I don't like future set games, the whole laser and pew pew thing doesn't workout for me..

Modern warefare is where it's at.

EDIT: Or CoD7:Pirates of the lost seas!!.. You know that would be awesome >.>

you would start off on two different boats and sail the 7 seas in search of treasure and skalliwags to slice

I might as well just play the Pirates mod for BF2

They are probably going to do what Treyarch did, put vehicles into the game.

I feel the same way. In fact, it looks like I'll now be playing CoD:WaW for 2 years in a row.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all up for new games, however, releasing a game, a few months after one that's essentially just been released? It's much too soon, perhaps if they released the game at the start of 2010 it would be better.
It just feels as though I'm wasting my money, buying a game, and then settling it down almost straight away, leaving it to collect dust.

Im pretty surprised that most of you guys want to stick with WW2. To be honest i only got into the call of duty's when the "Modern warfare" came out. Now im not saying i dont love WAW (aside the f**k ups) but i really like new technology, the latest and greatest toys of destruction so im really looking forward to modern warfare 2!!!

As you like modern toys, I like old ones. :) I like bolt actions, that which a modern game can never give me b/c they don't exist. Sure, I can get a semi-auto like the G3, or a sniper rifle, but bolt action rifles are useless in modern warfare times. Not to mention the grit, the real history that shaped the world, the epic that is WWII, guns that aren't perfect, you can feel their cold steel. In modern games, everything seems so perfect to me, plastic weapons, I don't "feel" the guns, no flaws, modern weapons, how are you not killing someone instantly. Feels like I'm playing with toys. And I know they put the recon plane in this game, but stuff like uav and other modern gadgets feel cheap to me.

I know on these forums a lot of people came to the series b/c of CoD4 and the modern setting, but I really like WWII and this game has done it quite well! Granted, there are the couple of technical fixes that need to be corrected, but the actual gameplay, weapons, and maps themselves are great! I'll probably buy the next CoD b/c I am part of this site and I have every other CoD out, but I will most likely stick to playing CoD:WaW for my main game. :)

Personally, I didn't like CoD:WaW as much as I liked CoD:4 and I'm looking forward to CoD:MW 2 more than I was looking forward to WaW. It doesn't have much to do with the games being modern or WW2 but more to do with the gameplay.

Surprised no one brought up how confusing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is going to be. Looking forward to this title, wish EA would get off their collective a...and work on Battlefield 3, if they don't this series could replace them.

COD4 and CODWW both came out in November, 1 year apart. The article speculates that CODMW2 will come out in "Fall 2009", which will probably be around the same time period. That's a year, not just a few months.

It might still seem short to some people, but that's because many of us have become accustomed to buying each new version that comes out. For those who only like to play "modern war" versions, it will have been 2 yrs since COD4, and those gamers will be ready for it. If they do decide to stagger WWII/Modern (and Futuristic?) with each release, that might help give people an expectation of when their preferred genre will come out, and they won't feel the need to buy every single one each year.

It shouldn't be too surprising...on PC, COD1, COD:UO, COD2, and COD:WW have all been set in WWII. Only COD4 was different, and although it was hugely popular, many people got their introduction to COD in the WWII games and are more attracted to that time period. :)

I think that's why they didn't add a "5" to COD:World at War, and why they kept the "Modern Warfare" bit for the new game coming out. It looks like Activision is trying to separate the different genres/time periods in COD, so they do need a new naming system to do that. Whenever you re-organize or re-name something, there's always a little bit of inevitable confusion at first, but I don't think it'll be that bad.

Confusion should clear up sometime around Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 5:p
