Portal 2 Delayed by Two Months - Marks Shortest Delay in Valve's History

Valve has just revealed that Portal 2 has slipped two months from its intended release all the way to the week of April 18, 2011. The announcement was made with the typical Valve brand of humor, wit, and charm.

VALVE ANNOUNCES SHORTEST DELAY IN VALVE HISTORY

Valve today announced that Portal 2 -- the sequel to the ground-breaking title that won over 30 game of the year awards, despite missing its original ship date -- will now be available the week of April 18th, 2011. This two month slip not only marks the shortest delay in Valve's proud tradition of delays, it represents the approaching convergence of Valve Time and Real Time. Though this convergence spells doom for humanity, it will not affect the new Portal 2 release date.

I dont think there will be angry mobs. Look how patient everyone waits for the next half life.

Besides, two months from now it can slide another two months.

yea unlike some developers (cough dice cough), they will use the 2 months to actually address the bugs instead of ignoring them.

The reasons no one really argues or gets angry when Valve delay games is because not only are they usually some of the best (out of box) experiences they are also extremely well polished.

Certain other publishers / developers tend to have huge marketing campaigns designed to drive people into a feeding frenzy that peaks exactly at release.
All the adds, TV-time and corrupt reviewers are bought months in advance so the games are released at that time, ready or not.

I think I prefer Valve Time

I know Valve arnt perfect but for me they are easily the best developers/publishers in the current market, especially for PC.

Honestly they can have all the time they want, I just wish they would spend more time on CS3 and EP3 haha.

I dont pay attention to the CS stuff, but whats with all the CS:S beta stuff going on? Wouldnt that be CS:SS?

The beta going on. Its still called CS:S beta, right? Are they just updating CS:S or is it the third game? Count Strike was the first one, then Counter Strike:Source and maybe they will follow the Street Fighter series and call it Counter Strike:Super Source.

Mainly though I was wondering what the beta was about.

It's just a beta for Counter-Strike: Source. The updates that have come out in the past few months for CS: Source are a result of the beta updates for the game going public.

It's been a slight engine update, bug fixes, exploit fixes, etc. Nothing really major or game changing.
