you know what would be SUPER cool? If this next patch allowed us to play as the EU on vanilla maps.

Why would they do that? Just having the booster packs being given for free would be a massive step forward, then you might be able to ge a decent game on EF or AF cos the maps would be put on standard rotation (Great Wall is ACE!)

true, true. I would LOVE to play EF and AF again in a nice, populated server with 64 people in it... Great fun on great wall as EU with the L96, standing in the towers and all... that was before I got sucked into the black hole that I call BF2142 and I was so addicted to 2142 that was all i played for over a year but now I switch back and forth 'tween the two.

I know almost everyone would love to have the old blackhawk back.Such fun.

Those were the best times. "Blackhawking" Mashtuur City was one of my favorite early fixations.

It was so freakin fun to be in a squad with a diversified squad as there was always healing, ammo and a repair with that hot lead sauce coming from those door guns.

Then, they nerfed them so you couldn't hit the broadside of the barn wit 'em and took all the fun out of it. I don't expect this will ever change.

          But, there's AIX.

Did I mention that I'm now flying NOTAR Littlebird attack helos in Mashtuur City for the AIX mod? :yay: I guess I just did...

If Dice made all the weapons as powerful and as accurate as they should be, people would be less inclined to spam nades and claymores, knowing that they'd be better off using their rifle.

good point but then that might make gameplay incredibly frustrating as it's supposed to be a "relaxed" realism game, not a full realworld simulation, there has to be some kind of balance.

How is it more relaxing having nades everywhere!

I just want 15 of the best maps that could be ported from the MOD community or were developed by the BF2 unranked community...then cleaned/optimized by DiCE to be certified for ranked play.

You add 15 new map, 5 would be hated right away, and the other 10 would find some niche. Imagine what 10 new maps would do to this game? People still play counter strike...one main reason is they always had more maps coming along.

RELAXED reality, not relaxing. Means the game isn't realistic, just based around realism, but for the sake of gameplay and balance the realism is toned down!

I think half the maps int eh game already are great, Shoghua Stalemate for example, is a fantastic map infantry only (on smaller settings) but as soon asit loads up everyone leaves a server!

The problem is the community are so obsessed with stats and points, they will only play the likes of Karkand for quick "run and the enemy and frag/claymore the hell out of the map" points.

I really hope they change the way the awards/points system works for BF3, make it less stat and more gameplay orientated. One of the biggest problems BF2 has is, because of the stats system, you are required to have minimum numbers to have servers start a game! Why not have the server just load a close quarter CP map when server numbers are low? Thats just a quick thought on providing a more playable game, the amount of times servers sit empty because they cant get more than a handful of people on, its ridiculous.

The vanilla maps on 16p sizes are awesome.

Tah-da, 10 new maps right there

ok not pointing this at anyone but its on every site "give us af and ef"WHY? i brought them through download, some got them in the collection edition ! why should the people who brought the vanilla bf2 and not been interested in the add ons get them free? as rocketchild said give us new maps from the mod community and fix the problems like ctd,pid hackers and many other faults

I can see your point, but the question really is a case of "why not give them to us for free now?" What possible reason is there for not using these now as part of the standard game?

The only argument is that people paid for the boosters on release 2 years ago - but by the same argument does that entitle those of us who paid the £32 for BF2 on its release a refund now because the game is being sold for £10? No, of course not! This is standard marketing for any product - buy it on release and pay full price, prices are dropped lower late in the products life to boost sales. In software, particularly games, its common for boosters/patches/later releases to be given away for free - e.g. the Urban Operations booster pack for Rogue Spear was later provided by Red Storm for free a few years ago, The Civilization series often give full addon packs away free for later releases of the game. Like EA do now with the full collection edition of BF2, just makes the game more playable.

I bought the EF expansion upon release and the only reason I don't play it very often is the lack of servers and people playing. I didn't bother with armored fury because it's played even less than EF. By giving them away free now and making them a part of the standard game, it is actually doing those of us who bought the boosters and like them a favour by ensuring that these maps get played - the reason we all bought them for. EA aren't going to make much more money (if any) by holding out on them and this is only going to suffocate these boosters more.

By giving the boosters away rather than fan made maps, they are saving time and money by ensuring the maps meet the strict criteria focusing on balanced gameplay and no one is owed money for redistribution. Therefore adding a further 6 maps to the game and obviously a new faction with new weapons - all as standard (That really would make it 1.5 of the original game) in a relatively short period of time for little cost and hassle.

The addition of Shanghai Showdown too will bring the new maps to 7, more than enough to breathe new life and activity into the game. Makes perfect sense to me, and means EA get a lot of adulation for a relatively small amount of work - and keeps the community happy int he period between BF2 and BF3. This in turn leads onto gamers being more positive about the release of BF3.

where im coming from is if EA give af/ef away for free that'll be the end of ea downloaded add ons(i for 1 wont buy them why shouldnt i wait theres always karkand lol) ! if they did might aswell chuck in sp aswell ! plus arent there supposedly missing maps that were in production?
