Re: Official Battlefield 2 Patch Announcement
You could say that about BF3 then, would you buy it on release or wait till it comes out on budget release 2/3 years later?
Come to think of it you could say that about the PC you play your BF games on! Why buy that Quad-core gaming system with NVidia 9 series graphics now when you can buy it for under £50 in 5 years time, or better still just wait till someone you know updates their system and get their old one for free! If you can miss out on the 5 years gaming between while the game is at it's peak popularity time, then fair play to you sir.
The choice is yours - EA don't come round your gaff, kicking your door in, calling you a fanny and putting burning matches under your fingernails until you decide to buy their games or boosters. You buy them because you desire them and want to play them there and then. There will always be people who buy on release and there will always be those who wait for a a bargain later in a products life.
My personal opinion is EA SHOULD give the boosters away now to improves the quality and diversity of the game, getting full use out of the quality maps and weapons they provide and giving the BF2 community extra life.
Just because some customers feel they have been ripped off because the £5 product they paid for 2 years ago is now part of the standard game doesn't justify this. If these customers don't think the 2 years of exclusive game play they have had has been worth it then fair enough, just don't buy booster packs anymore.
If anything giving the booster away now is an advantage to those of us who did buy the booster packs years ago, as we are familiar with the maps and we will now get much more use out of these boosters than previously.
The fact of the matter is this might not even happen, it's just speculation at this stage so there's no need to get a bee in your proverbial bonnet about all this at present. EA may even decide on a different format of providing boosters addons in future releases. For example I've heard rumours they are looking towards online stores for in-game equipment and weapons as a means of getting money out of people - basically giving the best kit to those who are prepared to pay for it. I'm not saying this is right or wrong by the way. I think the biggest hints we'll see on EAs future plans for world (gaming) domination will be revealed with the release of BF:Heroes.
