Re: Battlefield 3 Possible Plans Revealed?
Biff: You bring up a point there...which kinda flies in the face of apparently 'what gamers want'. DiCE is going in the direction that says people want more foot fighting, while the last few posts suggest that BF2 stick with its roots and be a largely whole theater game.
Last night while I was walking around the house I starting to think about how DiCE could really turn BF3 into a "One Ring to rule them all". If they were to really play their cards right, they could make a complete flight/dogfighting sim, a tank warfare game, and a FPS foot fight play. Hell, why have 8 maps when you could have 24 maps?
5 flight maps where one is at night (which would rarely get played), a couple that had a low ceiling but lots of mountains and high peaks, and then a couple low visiblity maps with a high ceiling.
5 armor maps: Some hilly, some flat some urban.
5 infantry oriented maps just for urban combat with jeeps an maybe an APC or two.
5 helo-tank maps with a hell of a lot of AA available.
5+ mixed theater maps. Where everything is pulled in. True classic BF style maps.
The Battlefield family would turn into a catch all game and sell a hell of a lot of copies because it would appeal to something in all of use. And if it does not appeal, it would be from the feel, genre, hud, or style (like MMO).
One thing though, I would love to see a completely customizable game that allows add-ins like you can do with EverQuest or WoW. Now that I have gone back to my old friend Id software, I remember how much optimization you really could perform to the game.
It is a tall order, but why not set your aims high? Because if you aren't setting them high, you are setting them for being mediocre.
