Biff: You bring up a point there...which kinda flies in the face of apparently 'what gamers want'. DiCE is going in the direction that says people want more foot fighting, while the last few posts suggest that BF2 stick with its roots and be a largely whole theater game.

Last night while I was walking around the house I starting to think about how DiCE could really turn BF3 into a "One Ring to rule them all". If they were to really play their cards right, they could make a complete flight/dogfighting sim, a tank warfare game, and a FPS foot fight play. Hell, why have 8 maps when you could have 24 maps?

5 flight maps where one is at night (which would rarely get played), a couple that had a low ceiling but lots of mountains and high peaks, and then a couple low visiblity maps with a high ceiling.

5 armor maps: Some hilly, some flat some urban.

5 infantry oriented maps just for urban combat with jeeps an maybe an APC or two.

5 helo-tank maps with a hell of a lot of AA available.

5+ mixed theater maps. Where everything is pulled in. True classic BF style maps.

The Battlefield family would turn into a catch all game and sell a hell of a lot of copies because it would appeal to something in all of use. And if it does not appeal, it would be from the feel, genre, hud, or style (like MMO).

One thing though, I would love to see a completely customizable game that allows add-ins like you can do with EverQuest or WoW. Now that I have gone back to my old friend Id software, I remember how much optimization you really could perform to the game.

It is a tall order, but why not set your aims high? Because if you aren't setting them high, you are setting them for being mediocre.

but you need maps with all air and on foot also with armour and the lot
but your idea would make it fun and let people play what they like best in the game.

but i feel as if more assets were there in the first place there would be no unfairness and better AA wud balance air power.add a navy and it gives planes something to do .then we can see some landing assualts we all miss:guns:

          Add dx10 and destruct enviro,16+maps,more vehicles,more weapons(like 64) and custom kits,need atleast 6 armies:salute:,underwater ability

and you would have the best game ever invented

I dont think more players is cool but i think bigger maps might be good

More emphasis on teamwork. IE, scores for achieving squad goals, 2x multiplier for best squad etc.... something along those lines.

Rocket, thats the motto DICE needs to implement into their creative phylosophy.

                Aim high.

BF2142 obviously was meant to aim low.

Re: Battlefield 3 Possible Plans Revealed?

You know, I think they were trying to think "bigger and better" when they were working on BF2. And the game was great in several regards.

But really, if that press release was from DiCE...they f**ked up right out the gate by putting a time line on it. It is very amateurish to actually have a public target date. Blizzard does not do it. They certainly learned that a decade ago. Id started the whole "when it is done" statement with Quake I. Did Valve say early in the several years it was working on Half-Life2 that it was going to be out next year...just in time for Xmas? No. No one says ANYTHING like that. But DiCE. They did it with BF2. They went public right off the bat showing their work-in-progress videos, with Colin standing there chew gum into the microphone saying "yep...only a few months away...oh, we are still working of the explosion effects" (yeah, that is a paraphrase).

But once they put a time line on it...what happened? They boxed themselves into having to get it out. With a Senor Management Team at EA looking over their shoulders going "you said first quarter, our shareholders are expecting earnings from your release now...get it done!" And then what happens, because they did not have the spine to say in the first place that "we want to break every record in the book, we want to release the mother of all FPS/Sandbox games and will be played for 5 years...it will make Counter Strike and its following look like the pre-school recital!" And it looked like it was almost there! I am not sure if they just did not have the budgeting to keep developing, had to beat competing games that were about to dropship to the shelves, or to satisfy the demands of the community, but it was just not a finished product.

So I say..."Aim High"..."Shoot for the F**king Moon!!!!!" Make the game the biggest God Damn experience anyone could possibly imagine. Make it so you can't even put a label on it. "Is it a Flight Sim? No wait...it is a First Person Shooter...no wait...it, it, it...WTF is it...oh yeah! It is Battlefield, a game that rewrote book shooter immersion. A game where Tribes failed and indoors Quake could not follow for several years."

Right now, DiCE should take their queue form some epic moments in history that reshaped the landscape. Like America in the Sixties...Proud about it's victory in WWII, then getting complacent in the years after, it got soft...but then when the Reds were showing America's weakness, Kennedy stood up and said, "we are going to the Moon!"

Go big! Because DiCE is soft right now. There is a lot of bad blood out there with them and competition in the market pace now. And yeah, gamers can be fickled, but it only takes a couple bad reviews of people saying "well, BF3 is just like BF2" and it will sink like EuroForces did. But if the reviews say "forget what you used to feel about DiCE/EA! They are rewriting history and once again everyone is going to have to play catch-up! Buy this game or go back to playing Pac-man"

I know that is a long, passionate post. But I really love their product and they show great talent. It just disappoints me to see them not go the distance. Yeah, this is all based on just a "mysterious rumor PDF", but their legacy tells the bigger picture.

Certainly they are going to change their formula. Because it goes back to wait I said a few pages ago. "Fool me once shame on you, Fool me twice, shame on me." I am keeping that in my head as Crysis and Farcry show up. And with Valve dropping some titles right now...I am leery of giving EA any money.

With a position where you have a lot to lose, you will go safely. With having limited selfconfidence, youll go softly. I say DICE has a problem in a form of identity and selfconfidence crysis. Youve summed up a lot of good thoughts, but its this moment that defines if DICE will go "bigger and better" with the next titles "or revolutionary, new and fresh". Bigger and better meaning of course refurbishing the working formula, and the second one bringing down the drawing board, get that inner child gamer out and create a game which would blast the competition out of the water. There is no franchise out there with the potential of Battlefield(tm). Its a shame seeing it being used under its capacity. With money and backup from EA, things can happen. Being a ***** to EA, and nothing will.

yeah, I would love for them to collaborate with another software house and develope a game that would be a smaller WoW rival.

Will never happen, EA owns most of dices shares....dice does what EA tells them.....simple as that.

And for EA, why aim high when you can spend less money and get more sales by aiming low?

Just slap some MMO-esque ranking system on and the kiddies will flock to it in masses.....

EA isnt interested in making the next best game...there interested in milking this series for all its worth....and the easiest way to do that is dumbing the game down so the most amount of people will be able to play it....

really the problem is that they have a monopoly on this market and other industries have been taken to court on the bases of fair trade.

just wait for arma2 and other companies to shine, i hope:cry: and get away from the bf1942/bf2 engine:nod:.

As i seen what was going to happen(all this) before bf2 was even released!(being old school)that "ranks" have ruined to community in terms of hacks, cheats, exploiters and now content protection

                          all for some stupid medals

What I want, is a completely customizable soldier kit that starts with boots and ends with hats. Not literally of course. But in a form of a template/weight system. You get your main weapon that takes up the most of the room, and a wide selection of items you can use. But the main weapon, its primary attachment (G-launcher, scope) or a specific kit element (paddles, ammunition packs, medpacks) make up the direction of your kit. It would be possible to mix several classes, but it would hinder the use, as for example theres enough room for an AT launcher, and a primary main weapon, but since it would take up so much space, you could not carry any extra ammo for both of them.

A crude scetch of what I have in mind-

Now, these describe an AT kit with 2 rockets and a PDW with 2 extra mags, and an assault kit with a primary weapon, ammo, grenades and an addon to the primary rifle. The player has 2 templates, one for his combat gear, one for his armor. The armor one uses R6V idea primarily, meaning- theres a balance between maximum mobility and maximum protection and the soldier can utilize it any way he wants.

Basically, a sort of an RPG system, with unlockable, massive ammount of extra toys to reopen with, which you can use to build up your own kit (5 saved kits you can choose on spawnscreen) with. Anwhere from PDWs, pistols, primary weapons, addons and area specific addons (of course the most important ones, the ones that define Battlefield, are present, not like DICE did with BF2142). So a person could work out a specific set to suit his own needs.
