That is what I am saying, just have a certification system for custom maps to allow into the ranked pool. I have always wanted this for BF2. You would see great maps show up and trash maps disappear. It would bring new life into the game and even for the boosters like Euroforces. I would love to get more action in that game.

Speaking of...I need to IM my contact at DiCE about getting this option added it.

Oh, and they need a couple of these:
    • Airmap only. An 80 person map with nothing but jets? Oh my!

custom ranked servers would create an equal amount of players who whine and say its unbalanced, glitchy, buggy etc to the number of people who want it. unless they are reviewed and certified by the game makers i dont see it happening.

Hence, the post going back several said "a certification program"

But if there were an air map like Desert Combat had, it would be fine if a lot of the jets had co-pilots...maybe it would really need some tweaking...but I still think it would be great to give Tankers and Armor whores "armor oriented maps", Pilots some Pilot vs Pilot maps, Infantry some IO maps and then several mixed bag maps where it is a whole theater.

^^ i agree completely, but you have to admit with half of the playing population being a smacktard it will be hard to make it work out. hell we cant even stop people from bitching about the official maps released. imagine when they find out the map they just got uber owned was made by "some dude".

Its not the number of maps, it is the quality. If they are 8 awesome maps, then that is great. But if only 3 or 4 are any good, then it would be bad. A lot of games have a lot of maps, but once the game is mature, most players tend to go toward those few well designed fun maps.

BF3 has alot of competition, and with TF2 and Quake Wars just released, it will be harder for them to get support for their game if they are not on the ball. This means the game will have to be major bug free (every game has bugs, but not game breaking bugs and game design issues like BF2 had/has). And most importantly they need to make a well balanced game between infantry and vehicles.

I hope included somewhere in those supposed 56 weapons is hand held anti air weapons for soldiers and included in those 48 vehicles are well designed jets and anti air vehicles. BF2 was hurt big because of insufficient counter weapons and vehicles to aircraft. Helos should not be hovering over flags and spawns just raping infantry. Jets should not be flying at 100 meters raping flags and infantry, with infantry almost power less to do anything about it against good pilots.

Anyway, if this news is true, it shouldn't be a surprise. A bigger better successor to BF2 has been called for and maybe, just maybe they will deliver

                    :salute:

Yes, they do have some competition. Even when those games and also Crysis have been out for well over a year, had expansion packs out, new patches and more maps...it will still have competition with other titles and dare I say...BF2 itself?

I am happy you brought that up. AA is going to be a must! It was a big let down that they did not have Should-fired Stingers and Grails in this game.

Yeah, it took 3 patches for the damn things to get accurate and not give you TKs left and right...but I sure as hell wish I could pull out on as an AT kit and not have to run 500 meters to the other side of the map to shoot from a stationary AA at a well known location by pilots.

                          Ok guys, mark my words!

This game will start to die in 3 months after release. This game is bound to FAIL!!

ETQW has set the bar very high in terms of the product quality. Ive had zero crashes and seen no bugs, the forums are clean from complaints other than the typical gameplay likes/dislikes. While a game not for everyone, its still one of the very few products that is as good as it gets (meaning, it doesnt break on you). As for games and maps general. SWAT4 had such a great map design, that the situation where only 2-4 maps are actually being played (like in BF, city maps and 1-2 air maps) is unheard of, quite literally. There are just a handful of servers playing a handful of maps, and those are hardcore pointwhorage maps.

Which means that research in players preference can be successful. Means that people at DICE can take a location, background info and create a map that would be multidimensional and pack a lot of fun for a long time. Butif you read the news, you can clearly see that their "research" is just copying city maps, and adding a few open maps.

My prediction, no automated map downloads, just patching, probably a moddable option to add map downloads via a tweak in the code (a´la open option in SWAT4, which is still being unsuccessfully applied). 5 city maps, 3 open air maps. One of the city maps will feature jets.

If people said DICE learned from BF2 and BF2142, they need to see that they are learning literally- add functions that work, cleanse the rest.

Im staying sceptical about this. The first proof is that they took modern setting because "it worked".

If it is true then we will have a teaser at the beginning of next year...lol
If you are to lazy to look at DigitalBattle heres the rest lol
A map is mentioned by name, called “Baghdad Burning”, and appears to be a massive urban map, similar to BF2’s very popular “Strike at Karkand”. The game is powered by “Frotbite DX”, currently the Frostbite engine is used in Battlefiled: Bad Company on PS3 and Xbox 360. The “DX” could refer to DirectX (10?), a PC version of the Frostbite engine.

Please note that none of this is confirmed, we’ve emailed a few people from EA and DICE (Battlefield developers) and will update the article as soon as we know more. Also note that we cannot, for obvious (legal) reasons, release the PDF document. Stay tuned for more info.

[Update 1] A few wanted to know if the document mentions in-game advertising, it does not, but wouldn’t be surprising, considering BF2142 had in-game advertising.

[Update 2] EA responded to the rumor with a “no comment” statement. Still waiting for a reply from DICE (which will probably be the same).

[Update 3] For clarification, the document doesn’t say that XP is not supported, it only lists Vista and OS X.
