Any barnyard fool can be negative -- especially in a straightforward situation like this.

Truth is, none of you knows what's going on in the background. Maybe the DICE execs just got sick of gaming and want to get into some other industry? Maybe they want to retire? Maybe they want to start fresh with a new game dev studio? Maybe they want to become buddhists and move to tibet?

You don't know, I dont know, so lets not flame the people who gave you a year and a half of great gaming.
You know, deep inside I try and be positive..but sometimes I become realistic. I've seen how EA deals with companies after they've acquired exclusive rights to a developer.

As for the reasons behind the devs merging like this, they'd be stupid not to. I mean, you'd be working for a goliath of a gaming company, debatedly the leader in the industry, and probably could be given the chance of leaving with a great severance package.

I've had fun the last year, but only because I learned to play with all the glitches and bugs that came along with it. I was content with the original game, even with the red-name bug. I was even content up to 1.21-22 (can't remember which) and then it went downhill for me. Oh, and then there were the incredibly sub-par "expansions" and "boosters" that divided the BF2 community even more than it was (i.e. stat guys vs. teamwork guys)

As my first post mentioned, I'm glad they've decided to go the way that most developers can only dream of. However, I now feel that as a Battlefield series fan, this will be the last time I can safely say that I will be purchasing a DICE developed game, made by EA.

I had the same feelings with Westwood Studios and Lionhead, to name a few. (i.e. MOH PA) This same bad feeling is also applied to the NHL series. They were great games, and now they are "ok" games..absolutely no evolution other than graphical overhauls and a couple "tweaks" to how you control the players.

I'll continue to play POE2 and the other mods when they are released, and I truly do hope that DICE and EA will give us a great game in the near future. I'm just being realistic in the sense that I've seen this before with many of my favorite games, and this merge is definitely looking gloomy for my tactical rock-paper-scissor gameplay. It only took the community less than 2months of constantly playing to discover that the balance between combat was more "rock beats all others". It took modders to equalize the gameplay and make everything balance out.

Oh well, it's no use really "flaming" anyone, as you mentioned, but if we don't talk, then no1 will listen.

    PEACE

The end of the battlefield series.

because EA has now the offical rights to make it without dice.
I know for sure there will be battlfield 3.

But now EA has fully control about dice it would not be so impresive as bf1942 introduced

              You want Battlefield Three?

The Creator needs to sit down with these forums and read everything and soak in the long history of BF2 before doing anything.

That way they already have the good, bad and the ugly BEFORE repeating the problem in another 60 dollar retail product.

Head over to totalbf2142 to find out! I won't buy it, but if I can win it, then so be it! :)

Give it about a month. It will take EA that long to count the revenue and figure out how to spin a positive press release on a dismal retail product.

                      Quoted from ActionTrip.com

DICE Canada, also known as "that DICE branch that made the less-than-stellar Battlefield: Vietnam," has been closed, following the recent completion of the DICE acquisition by EA. You know, EA is really good at strategic downsizing. It's no small wonder they're doing so well.

On the morning of Oct 2nd hours after EA finalized the buyout of DICE, it closed the Canadian subsidiary DICE Canada (Developers of BF: Vietnam and BF2: Special forces). There where 28 employees at the Canadian office.

They are now out on the docks. Serving burly sailors.

Uhhh, EA is the battlefield series.

EA and DICE have been a team for a while I think. This is just a finalising and public anouncement. If I am not mistaken.

Sell out? I dont even know what that is supposed to mean, lol. These guys produce very high level games. THis is a business, not an underground music scene. There is nothing to sell out to.

                        Kids

Congrats to both EA nd DICE. I hope all goes well for everyone, including the fan base. Everyone else can go get a life, and do it quick.

Blizzard is apart of Vivindi, so I don't think that would happen :|:.

Indeed. I recall the countless times Warcraft III, Counter-Strike: Source, even BF1942 kept crashing for no apparent reason. Or how their developers kept changing gameplay each patch.

                              Wait a second...
