Re: EA Acquires Digital Illusions
You know, deep inside I try and be positive..but sometimes I become realistic. I've seen how EA deals with companies after they've acquired exclusive rights to a developer.
As for the reasons behind the devs merging like this, they'd be stupid not to. I mean, you'd be working for a goliath of a gaming company, debatedly the leader in the industry, and probably could be given the chance of leaving with a great severance package.
I've had fun the last year, but only because I learned to play with all the glitches and bugs that came along with it. I was content with the original game, even with the red-name bug. I was even content up to 1.21-22 (can't remember which) and then it went downhill for me. Oh, and then there were the incredibly sub-par "expansions" and "boosters" that divided the BF2 community even more than it was (i.e. stat guys vs. teamwork guys)
As my first post mentioned, I'm glad they've decided to go the way that most developers can only dream of. However, I now feel that as a Battlefield series fan, this will be the last time I can safely say that I will be purchasing a DICE developed game, made by EA.
I had the same feelings with Westwood Studios and Lionhead, to name a few. (i.e. MOH PA) This same bad feeling is also applied to the NHL series. They were great games, and now they are "ok" games..absolutely no evolution other than graphical overhauls and a couple "tweaks" to how you control the players.
I'll continue to play POE2 and the other mods when they are released, and I truly do hope that DICE and EA will give us a great game in the near future. I'm just being realistic in the sense that I've seen this before with many of my favorite games, and this merge is definitely looking gloomy for my tactical rock-paper-scissor gameplay. It only took the community less than 2months of constantly playing to discover that the balance between combat was more "rock beats all others". It took modders to equalize the gameplay and make everything balance out.
Oh well, it's no use really "flaming" anyone, as you mentioned, but if we don't talk, then no1 will listen.
PEACE

I won't buy it, but if I can win it, then so be it! :)
