Why do people hate snipers so much?

Granted ive only got a few posts under my belt, but in pretty much every single thread, i have seen someone say they hate snipers, that they knife snipers, that snipers suck.

I play pretty much solely as sniper, its a class that i am trying to hone down to perfection. I'm not going to brag, but i dont see myself as a bad player, and most snipers i meet i can kill with one HS.

Is it the long range shots that bother you, or the insta kills? Or is it the fact that some snipers sit like morons in a bush 3 miles away, and get their 2 kills for the round. If it is the latter, i would just like to say not all snipers are like this, some of them do attack, and some even cap flags (bazai with knife for me :p ). So before you take the ****, please remember that not all snipers are nubs.

I'm not much of a poster here either, but lurk a bit. I think its that Snipers don't generally play as team members and play more to rack up their own score than play to win the round. I've caught myself not calling out bad guys when playing as sniper so some other guy wouldn't get to him first.

IMO, The other reason is they're fun to pick on. . . like the red-headed step child of the game.

If I am at a similar skill level with you, I can cap flag MUCH better holding a machinegun.

also, If I have a comparable aim, I can get headshot on you with PKM just as easy as you do on mine.

also, in a vehiclar game, the mission of defense (which is usually sniper's mission) can be realized MUCH better with say, a tank.

most snipers arn't team players you nearly always end up when you need a spawn point and the only one left is a sniper, and he/she will never go and try to get a flag so you sit there for ages waiting for the comander on the other side to remember to scan for him/her and tell his/her side where the sniper is, what is worse is when you end up with 9 muppets on your side all sitting in the middle of no where as a sniper just in case 1 person might just decide to walk 3 miles away from the nearest flag so they can snip them but the main point is that MOST snipers (and i'm not saying you are like this) are not team players wont help their team cap flags or do ANYTHING to help win the game

Ok, so I'm pretty much a lurker here too, but hear me out! I've only recently started playing as a sniper, and I don't think I'll go back to any other class for quite some time now. Reasons? Twofold.

1-The awesome power to decide who lives and who dies. With but a single shot, the opposing player will have to wait 15 seconds to become part of the game again. You strike fear into a squad if one of their number suddenly collapses. They don't know where you are, then a claymore goes off. Pandemonium! /****.

2- Playing in a 2-man sniper team. One as the sniper, and the other as a medic. Find a nice position, make a few kills. Leave a claymore. Move on. A good sniper team should never stay in the same position for more than a few minutes/kills. Work out a route you'll use during the round; moving from one flag to another, then on to another and back to your starting position does should keep you alive a bit longer than if you just stay static in one position.

See, most people get the ****s when they go down to a head shot from 150+ metres away, and more often than not, they'll come back and hunt you down. Move around (with your medic/spotter) from position to position and don't let the enemy find you!

If you feel like it, get a goon into your squad and use him as bait. Works wonders.

Oh, and one last thing - don't always go for the high ground. Sure, a lot of the time you can make a lot of kills from a high position, but being on the top of a building is just asking for trouble. Hide in the bushes, shoot from behind the corners of buildings, hell, a decent sniper should be able to hide in pretty much anything and still make a kill.

I agree! I personaly don't hate snippers, I think they do contribute to the game. But when 1/3 of your team are snippers, your going to loss!

When I join a server I look to see;

1. If there is a Commander.
2. How many of my team are snippers.
3. How many lone wolfs.

If there are more snippers than I think should be playing on the map, or if no one is playing in squads, I will either move to the other side or to another server if I cant switch sides!

I hate snipers with a passion...only time I will be a sniper is to counter the one that just killed me.

I hate the fact that you will go to cap a much needed flag at the other side of the map only to have 2 claymores lying and waiting.

If I see one I will do my absolute best to creep on him, stab him, and teabag him...and pick up his kit and lay some claymores in case he wants to go back to that spot.

I don't think it takes much skill to lie there and wait for someone with half a health bar to get taken down by one shot.

Not everyone does. I only sit in bush if there is a tank coming.

I was talking about going against sniper who is not 250 meters away from me.

the point is, whatever the sniper can do, there are other stuff in this game that can do and can do it better.

for example, what keeps most squads terrorized in WWII? Machine gun nests! those delayed more troop movement than snipers can possibly imagine. But most FPS don't have machine gun nest (or any powerful suppressive weapon for that matter).

However, in BF, you got MG turrets, jeeps, LAVs, tanks, helicopters, even BOMBERS. why go sniper?

I think the biggest thing is getting shot and killed from the other side of the flags...that sucks.

there is always an exeption to the rule, hey look everyone we finally found a sniper that does not sit in a bush and do NOTHING to help his/her team

A good sniper is an amazing asset in the game. Never undersetimate them. They can take out a couple a guys capping a flag and make the enemy move around trying to be stealthy. Those two bars of health the enemy has left are a constant reminder of their close shave with death.
