Re: The F-35 is a useless hunk of junk

Soup Nazi from MoonGamers? Yep, that's me.

Like motorboat said, I have given up on flying the F-35 for the most part. The fact that both the Mig-29 or Su-34 have a slower airspeed and tighter turning radius than the F-35 means that anytime someone gets behind me, there's literally nothing I can do to shake them off of my tail. Not only that, but the flares don't seem to keep me from getting hit at all.

Also, when flying the F-35 on Oman, I have terrible issues with my missiles not hitting the Su-34. If the Su attempts a hard turn with afterburners, they usually hit. But if they fly level and cut their throttle, my missiles glance off their jet causing no damage. Gunning them down with cannons seems to be the only reliable method I've found to taking out enemy jets while in the F-35.

I've been thinking about trying to get more practice in with throttle control in the F-35, though. If I keep my joystick throttle to 80-90%, I should be able to effectively match a Mig's or Su's air speed, right? If that's so, it would make it much harder for them to shake me when I'm behind them and would give me a fighting chance while they're chasing me.

Re: The F-35 is a useless hunk of junk

The J-10 and F-18 are by far the only two jets that are almost impossible to shoot down. I mean, it is possible, but I agree that being in the SU-34, F-35, MIG-29, F-15 are the easiest jets to have shot down.

The AA missiles seem to fly by the J-10 and F-18 for whatever reason (hitbox?)

I've become accustom to taking out the jets with my guns, at least keep them on the run, but more times then none have I been caught trying to avoid missile fire within one of the previous listings of jets and be left a trail of death, yet never I have this problem flying the J-10 or F-18. Weird.

while i have been embarrassed by being in the f35 and shot down by the su, it was the pilots skill not the plane, i know pilots that can own in anyone from anyplane including the f35

You know, to a point you are right, but there is definitely something up with the A2A and AA missiles not hitting specific vehicles. I'm not sure if it's because of the angle they are at, the speed or even the hitboxes, but I cann tell you right now that when trying to hit certain jets after a lock and a good 100m trail from the enemy, sometimes I hit and sometimes I don't.

          It just feels very random.

%70 of the time i get away from a j10, other jets take me down for me not being careful

las night i was play against colonel ithe skys and he decided to take me on as i lfew a j10, he actualy tried and shoot me down, but with the guns. i discoverd that when i did my back loop he would break off right away and head straight u in the sky, to the stall poing and shut off his engine, still shot him down about 6 times, he almost took me out too

F35 dosnt suck, you just need to know how to use it

As usual if you don't have much experience flying DON'T comment. Often these airplane threads are funny, because some of these comments are clueless.

Either way the F-35 isn't a complete piece of junk, it's just the way EA programmed the missle accuracy plane to plane

The F-35 is by far the largest missle magnet. In the past missles seem about equal in how they tracked planes (pre 1.21), where the main difference between how well you could avoid them was plane agility.

In 1.21 missles generally hit no matter what plane, except occasionally with the J-10.

Post 1.21 the main factor is how EA programmed missles to hit the planes.

Case in point the J-10 vs. the F-35. The F-35 is pretty agile, and can manever failry well. However, no matter what you do, flares, crazy moves, the missles generally hit you. 7 out of 10 missles will get you. It's a lot more agile than the bombers, but due to it's missle magnet system is really a Coffin-35.

In constrast the j-10 is near impossible to hit. I've had noob pilots on the other side fly straight in a J-10, and missles randomly go around them. Try that in any other plane you it will hit them. When I'm in the J-10 getting shot down by another plane is not really a concern. THe only concern for the J-10 is the Essex, and even then it can occasionally dodge those missles without flares.

So the issue these days is not only are some planes more agile, but some planes attract missles more easily. Ironically, the real life stealth airplane, with lowest thermal emissions is a missle magnet.

You're kidding right? The real F-35 is designed with stealth in mind, but it is by no means a stealth plane. It is meant to have good forward sector stealth, meaning that from the front it presents a stealthy cross section, but aft sector is another matter all together. Once you get behind it that big turbine is like a beacon. Compare it's exhaust to that of its big brother, the F-22, or to that of the F-117 and you will see how the exhaust of a real stealth jet is designed. "Lowest thermal emissions"... please, get real.

The F-18 is a great plane. In the right hands it will evade just as many missles as a J-10, and the 600 rounds of cannon fire are lethal. All the fighters are pretty well balanced with competent pilots behind them, although the F-35 is the red-headed step child of the bunch. The J-10 is the easiest one to hop in and do well, but a good pilot in a Mig or F-18 will be just as dominate.

Flares are not a factor at ALL as I never lose lock on the F35 so my missles still nail 'em. Turning is a joke, gimme a J10 and I will kill the F35 from a psycho angle while he flares and jerks all over the sky, I'll kill him with two shots. Every time.

Try it. We have the Wake Island Air Show map on our unranked server, we've all seen it countless times, no matter what plane is attacking the F35, the F35 will lose. Hell I save my flares for AA if an F35 is on my tail and I have a J10 or Eurofighter. Just don't need 'em cause I KNOW his missles will miss.

You can still get kills with an F35, but your kill streak will be ended as soon as anything gets behind you ONCE. Your dead, no two ways about it.

Many people are noticing this too I've noticed. When I lock onto any jet but the F35 the opposing pilot will try to evade 99% of the time. 50% of the time when it is an F35 the pilot simply ejects. They know they are dead so they just bail. Don't blame them, I would too if I still flew them.
Thanks for confirming what I believe to be true. I play on Oman a lot. I frequently get raped by the Su-34 which is more of a light bomber than a fighter. The flares really seem to be a problem. They almost never work against another jet. Occasionally I can reverse throttle and escape but if they are far off they have enough time to waste me.

I can help you out with maneuvering, evasion and getting that tail off your butt. I believe Ducks already explained why F35B is such a missile magnet and J-10 isnt. Since you and Soup fly mostly Oman, and most of my dogfights have been held againts MiGs in F35B, I can give you a piece of advice.

MiGs slower airspeed will eventually get it two noticable favours.
-In case of you deploying your afterburner, you will increase the distance between two planes, opening yourself to a missile launch opportunity. Mostly, in turns, in level flight, you name it, F35B is faster and will increase the distance keeping the jet successfully open to missiles.
-In turns, its turn radius is smaller, not much, but enough to keep the F-35B in its line of sight for about 4/5 of the turn.

This is usually the case, when both pilots fly both jets as if they were the same. 100% throttle and simple turns.

When a F35B chases the MiG. Again at full speed. It will catch up with it rather easily. So in turns, the MiG, having a significantly lower airspeed, the F35B rushes past the MiG, just enough to lose it fromits field of view. I estimate, under these cirmumstances, F35B will lose the MiG after the 2/3 of the turn.

I hope this explained the question "why" in MiG vs F35B. You two play it a lot (as did I).

Heres how you can even the odds.

-Lower your airspeed to 900 on the joystick in level flight. Mark that point on the joystick, so youll find it easily. Ive got the throttle of my JS all marked up for various speeds. Jets and choppers.
If youre using KB and JS, youre set. You can increase, decrease, keep at cruise and play around MiGs speed as much as you want to.

Youll notice that the bomber has absolutely no chances, and you wont even have to waste your missiles on it.

From what Ive noticed. This little change will boost up your chances significantly when youre on tail.

-NEVER fly by visual sight, but fly by the contrails. I think most of you already do that, but it needs to be reminded. Whatever the speed, fly by the contrails. Think of it as a road you have to go by.

                          To escape the MiG.

-By far my favourite would be just outspeeding him. If the moment is right, you go for a climb, afterburner yourself to a good speed. Note that during this process, you will have to waste those flares. The timing should be right. When you dive down, the MiG will lose you out of his missile range. Ive done it a couple of times when I felt lucky. Naturally you should be moving towards the carrier. Your main goal would be to lure him to your backup, the Essex.

Note, I use this when I feel lucky. With MiGs max speed being just above 1000 and yours at ~1400, you can see why its so easy to outspeed a MiG. Climb and dive, with ABs, and hes gone.

-Second tip, which you should actually be using a lot is frequent maneuvers and frequent turns. MiG has a roll speed of 4 seconds default and 3 under afterburner. Youve got 3/2 respectively. Most people dont roll their plane under AB, because they dont know it affects every maneuver you make. MiG cant catch up with most of your turns, so this will help you to open up windows of opportunity to break loose.

Note however, that afterburner use increases your speed and you might be playing under MiGs conditions again.

Theres no foolproof tip. With current problem with hit detecion balances, youre once again relying on your maneuvering skills, and often they wont help you out. Know your jet (know more than just to call it a POS), and if you cant handle the pressure, lure the opposition over friendly airspace. You guys being Oman junkies, Im sure you already know how good Essex is (at TKing... LOL).

                          Good luck.

EDIT: You can try the 800 limit trick with F35B aswell. MiG and Su are significantly heavier.

And yeah, this is just a maneuvering part. The missile conditions as they are right now will give you a beating.

i love all the unsubstantiated claims...comes down to knowing the jet and using it accordingly, if you dont then you will probably die, simple as that...all the jets have their ups and downs, none are junk...it tends not to look so ignorant if people just knew what they were talking about before speaking
