Sounds like something in the communications protocol is causing the ping values to become garbled. I agree that 2^10 is 1024. 0-1023 would be that range. There are also some zeroes. This is definitely a problem, though...

Also, check http://www.game-monitor.com/ to see if IT is reading that kind of ping...

I've had this before on a server, but it was iin fact a few bad nodes. Its not uncommon for a high percentage of folks to ultimatly use 1 or 2 of the same nodes on their way to the main gaming server. If a few (nodes) are having problems, this is what happens.

I did check several other servers and this was the only one I could see that had the 1023 ping issue...

lol yeah i see that, good find.
But because its not everyone, i still insist its a node problem. And yes, i have no idea what im talking about as far as the talk. Node.....server skip no clue. But those with the problem are probally going through one or more of the same node server to get to that server. Perhaps a bad node is near or a last hop to that server?

if all those other people are having dead connection lag (anything over 500 is unplayable, over 1000 implies zero connectivity) - maybe you are the one causing it Rombaft
ping has a cumulative effect after all
find out on xfire if there is a problem when you are not in the server

pal, I am getting tired of your stupid replys, didn't you read the post , they where having it long before I came on the server , they where complaining about it, and the admin already reset the server and changed the kick value for kicking people , but still people got kicked , also we all didn't have lag, just hose freaking high numbers .

In all post when someone says I have a bug or whatever you replie , no there aren't bugs, .... , well, I don't have many bugs ether, just this one poped up now, and for the rest, there are tons of people having big problems with bf2 , even on many review sites they gave BF2 bad scores due to the amount of bugs , someone denieing there are bugs in BF2 is a complete retard

also, if it was client side, why don't I have it on all servers ? I only have this on some servers (mostly my favs damit)

Which is why again, (yes being anal about it) I believe it to be a server that you "hop" through.
Do a trace route / ping to a few of those servers your having a problem with, and see if thats the case. That would settle that issue, pretty quick.

dude there's no need for that - i'm trying to be helpful
and seeing as I seem to be more in the know about these things, when I give advvice you should listen
the fact is that
1. if you have high ping like 100 instead of 20 then it is because punkbuster is updating which is what most are complaining of
2. your situation is strange and seems to be affecting only that server and you - have you at least tried other servers or searching by lowest ping
edit read your reply more carefully - the problem by a process of elimination is thus with the server not you
for christs sake don't lose your head over something so minor - it'll fix itself eventually
go play somewhere else and be glad you can play at all

It may not be...I just haven't come across any others. It may be a UK issue, a node issue as was stated, above...

Why do we have to keep manually updating this c--p?! Why can't they work together and do periodic checks FOR us like every OTHER software company out there?! It should be a set it and forget it type of activity that just WORKS!! This is SOOOOO getting old!

What REALLY stinks is that it's OUR responsibility to keep THEIR files up-to-date!!!

I can tell that you do not run any important computers or servers. I for one would rather update manually than have them push updates that may fail. Besides, once the program(s) are on "your" machine, they are "your" files and not theirs. So "you" should be the one to keep them up-to-date.

Sometimes it can be a lot of work but in the long run, you dont lose half of your system files cause they pushed a bad update, which has happened with using the push technology plenty of times.

For 42 servers, I spend about 3 hours daily going over security logs, 2-3 hours checking and testing updates (sometimes this can take the whole day though), and then the rest of the day checking performance and tuning.

I do not want a push from any of the programs that we use. Even our antivirus (Sophos) is not pushed from their servers but pushed from one of our internal servers to all servers and workstations.

Nope, dont push the updates...just post the info and let us download them.

just saw captainblack on that server with a ping of 200 while everyone else was normal - checked back again and people are back to 1023

after a little research it seems that punkbuster updating for the new patch is the issue - so manually update it
there wasn't that helpful :p

The 1023 ping seems to be server related, not client. It's almost as if it's not picking up their true ping because of something being "stuck"...possibly even the PB updating.

I've had issues with PB not updating on games before, COD was plagued with this problem and it would eventually fix itself.
