Go there, download the setup.exe file, run it and point to the BF2.exe file if it can't find it. then click on update.
The last version update might be a while ago, but they regularly update punkbuster files.
Install it, run it and check for yourself.

Why do we have to keep manually updating this c--p?! Why can't they work together and do periodic checks FOR us like every OTHER software company out there?! It should be a set it and forget it type of activity that just WORKS!! This is SOOOOO getting old!

What REALLY stinks is that it's OUR responsibility to keep THEIR files up-to-date!!!

Yeah I confirm this too, it went away though after a while and I had no problems apart from the stupid rank bug.

it's your fault not EAs
your computer is set to block punkbuster updates
or
you never let punkbuster update manually
or
your connection is too unstable
the problem is not with the patches in this case at all - most people update just fine

I'm running better with the new patch, but I did have a huge increase in my ping for a week... this was just my crappy provider.

Well my ping rates displayed on the server list are much higher (on average) since the 1.22 patch with the lowest ping now being listed at "200". However, once I join a server the pings go down into the 80's and even at that high I haven't experienced any noticable lag during actual gameplay.

look the high pings are because you are playing at the same as punkbuster manually updating - problem and solution
normal service shall resume almost instantly

That looks like a hop problem. Its probally not you, and not the server, just a (or a few) bad servers or jumps if you will, in between you and the game server.
Thats my thought.

I'm about to reinstall windows/BF2 on my new Raptor, so I'll be sure and set up auto-updates...didn't know that was an option...

If those numbers were real, why would they all have the same number in high ping of 1023?

Just a guess but 2 raised to the power of 10 = 1024 so it looks like they are using 10 bits to store the ping value.

OK, updated PB , and here is the result , also the admin of the server already reset the server and set the max ping way higher, still got kicked after some time, everybody was complaining about it , I have the same problem on a bunch of other servers , also on those servers lots of complaining , and it certainly isn't a true ping , I don't have lag .

if all those other people are having dead connection lag (anything over 500 is unplayable, over 1000 implies zero connectivity) - maybe you are the one causing it Rombaft
ping has a cumulative effect after all
find out on xfire if there is a problem when you are not in the server

WOW i got the same problem not with vanilla BF2 but with SF i can join any of my favorite server i got ping over 700-800.
