Re: BattleField 2142 is a stolen idea.

When BF2 was going to be released, people said it was going to be a clone of DC. If anyone still thinks it's a clone of DC, go back and play DC again -- they are completely different games.

When BFV was going to be released, people though it was going to be a clone of Eve of Destruction mod -- which it obviously was not.

People never seem to get the right perception of what a BF game is going to be like. I, too, am guilty of creating a false perception of what BF2 was going to be (I did not, however, claim I wasnt going to buy or play the game.. because I knew I was).

2142 could, quite possibly, be a freaking amazing game. Whatever the case, I will tell you people this (call me a fanboy if you must) and I'm sure alot of folks will agree with me...

I have enjoyed every single game in the Battlefield franchise. I have enjoyed every single major mod in the BF franchise (EOD, POE, DC, BHD, FH, etc). The fact is that the gameplay simply works and I am more than satisfied with giving EA & Dice $20 or $50 for a brand spankin new engine upgrade that will allow modders to customize the game so that little groups that like realism-only, action-only, etc will be able to enjoy the game.

Don't take this the wrong way, but some of you people are getting way too greedy. You go to the movies, you pay 15 bucks to see a flick and chew some popcorn for 2 hours. You buy a DVD, you pay 20 bucks to watch a movie for 2 hours and not watch it again all year. You buy a music CD and you only really enjoy it for the first few days -- after which point it becomes just another CD in your collection. You buy BF2 for 50 bucks and you get months upon months of gaming (like 10 hours a week on average) and then months upon months of playing different mods.

Good for you! It's always a good idea to keep an open mind on things and keep lookin around to take in as much information as you can.

However, be aware that you need to blance everything you observer with everything else you've learned. For example, it's in the oil companies' best interest to discredit evoromentalistic claims that out emissions are helping to promote global warming. Guess who paid for those research projects that provided those recent findings?

Point is, taking a moderate stance will keep you from being dupped. I choise to believe that both sides in any argument are prone to lying to help their case, so listen to both of 'em and make your own judgements... then be prepaired to be wrong.

Sorry, this is a severally offtopic post. :p

Hehe, do you remember back in the day when everything was being compaired to Doom?

Magic Carpet: It's like Doom with flying rugs and castels
SystemShock: It's like Doom with RPG elements
Dark Forces: It's like Doom with Starwars stuff (ok, that one was true)
Mechwarrior II: It's like Doom with mechs
Starsiege: It's like Mechwarrior, which is like Doom with mechs
Leasure Suit Larry 3: It's like Doom with STDs

It seems like people have a lot of trouble getting their heads around the concept that new games are new. They might contain technology or content inspired by other things, but each really should only be judged on their own. Unless we're talking about Id, that is. 'Cuase everything they do is like Doom with... something.
      :p

Why not accuse it of stealing it's plot from The Day After Tomorrow (which has exactly the same general plot... it just happened faster in the movie).

Or accuse it of being a Mechwarrior Ripoff 'cause it's got mechs?

Or call a horse a horse and say it's a just like Doom (1) because you run around and shoot stuff in first person?

          Jeez.
There's nothing new under the sun. Everything is inspired by something else. This is a silly arse thread.

Edit: FYI, the new ice age plot is actually a perty cool piece of sci-fi. There's real theories that support it's possibility of actually happening. I know it's a little wierd to think that global warming could cause an iceage, but there's research that states it's a real possibility.
          LOL, what he said.

Dice shouldnt make BF 2142 because it will canibalize it's own profits. By releasing so close to BF2 - all sales that BF2 MIGHT have gotten over christmas this year will go to 2142. I think EA should hold onto 2142 until next spring, tweak up some of the content - double patch test it - and release a much much better game than BF2. It would be dumb to ask them to not release it at all ..... *sigh* but I'm still wishing they wouldnt.

I don't think they're giving the modders a chance to release their mods.

there are only a couple out so far, and with the release of 2142 apparently due out in the fall, many of the modders may stop what they're working on and try to switch to 2142, or cancel completly.

Then again, maybe thats part of EA's plan, get people to buy their new Bf before free ones come out

This new BF game is EXACTLY the same game dynamics as Tiberian, except, there is no Tiberian, its all just "Ice". I know Tiberian is RTS, but im talking about the standards both games are set at. Like the Vehicles, the future date, the types of technology, etc. Its been done to death in numerous other titles like MechAssault, and BattleFront II.

Geez DICE, think of something new, instead of repeating history just for more money, why not invest it into PROPER ****ing patch testers, and make BF2 Better.

Seriously, i cant wait for the MOD Desert Conflict, as thats gonna be the 1337 PWNZERS

P.S for those that fail to realise what im saying; IM NOT SAYING THIS IS A RIP OFF OF ANY FORM OF GAME. IM TALKING ABOUT IDEAS BEING CREATED.
The problem is every idea has already been done and im talking about games films music everything has been done already and the only thing left is to reinvent the old ideas.

Indeed it was. Nowadays, everyone gets their ideas from somewhere, you cannot make if there is nothing to make from, or you can't make something from nothing. Legally, you can't own thoughts or ideas. It applies to a lot of cases. In terms of constructing a link between the two, I can see the similarities you mention, but it is pushing it. It's more of "copy" or a potential competitor of Quake wars ET, than it is CC, thing is, it hasn't been released yet but it uses the same sort of ideas. As I said, you can't own a idea.

All I know is there was not enough time for the modders, This was just released to be a competitor, just shows how much they "we care for the modding communting" they really are.

I would have said Bf2142 ripped of Planetside before C&C TS....

I mean from just watching the video you can see:
                      Cloakers
Infrantry transport (Looked a little like Deliverers)
                      BFRs

Few others I forgot.... But anyway like everyone else said, game companys borrow ideas from each other..... It is a way of life in the gaming industry...

Re: BattleField 2142 is a stolen idea.

Why is bashing 2142 such a recurring theme on this forum? Are half the people here afraid of change?? A lot of you reading this thread won't even be playing BF2 by this fall, most likely, so why are you complaining about a game that hasn't been released yet?

For those that DO stick around and remain loyal to the BF2 franchise, where would you have it go? Would you like EA to release the "Battlefield 2: Rape of Somalia" booster pack, so you can go in with tanks and Apaches and mow down opponents armed with rocks and AKs??? Or would you rather have DICE work hours and hours at THEIR COST so you can have, free of charge, a 100% flawless computer game, rather than you being happy with the 98% we have now? It's time for the Battlefield franchise to move into other niches--developing and releasing new titles is what the game industry is all about.

The people of DICE have already gone above and beyond the call of duty to fix things in the game that the community gripes about. It's been almost a year since the release of this game, and still they're working to tweak a product that they've ALREADY made a sale on. The players demanding that EA drop 2142 and focus on patching BF2 are quite frankly, ingrates. I've bought quite a few PS2 games over the years, and a lot of them were buggy, but guess what? There was no post-sale patch to download, and no way to apply one if there were. Stop expecting something for nothing, when you already received A VERY HIGH VALUE FOR WHAT YOU PAID FOR with the original.

I for one am going to invest my money in a copy of Battlefield 2142. If I like it, I'll buy any expansion packs that are subsequently released as well. If you don't like MILD sci-fi scenarios (there's no aliens here people), with MILDLY advanced weapons (we still have foot soldiers in the game, and big mechs are probably no different than tanks in-game), then no one is forcing you to buy it. I'm sure when BF2 came out, there were a few Luddite 1942 fans who swore they'd never turn their Tommy Guns in for an M16A2. Good on them! The rest of us went out and bought it, and I for one was happy with the purchase.

Put an end to these BF2142-slamming threads, please.

that is just the point. People would like them to fix the game that is out now, than be working on a new one. They shouldn't have released a game that was not 100% in the first place.

If you go get a Pepsi that YOU bought, out of YOUR fridge, that YOU own, is it stealing? If anyone remembers Westwood, they sort of made Tiberian Sun. And also, if anyone remembers, Westwood is another great developer on a list of many that EA absorbed. Don't see how anything looking similar to Tiberian Sun is stealing, since EA pretty much obtained the rights when they obtained Tiberian Sun.

I, at first glance before the release of BF2, thought it looked a lot like C&C: Generals, but hey, EA owns Westwood, what do they care.

I just don't get why they must go 136 years into the future. WWII to vietnam = 20 some years, vietnam to present day = 40 some years. Now it's 136 years? Jeez, c'mon. I'm definitely NOT looking forward to it.
