DICE is well on their way to their demise anyway with the whole merger thing. EA is pretty much like a blackhole to developers.

i am already embaressed that EA is releasing 2142. i think that it is descracing the BF2 series, and is a REALLY stupid idea. BF2, for all its bugs, is a GREAT game and i think EA is just greedy and trying to get more money by milking BF for all its worth. After they have gotten everyone to hate BF and made all the money they could, they will just drop the game and try to develop another outstanding shooter, which i dont think will happen

i never think they take these games forward enough so we get a great game and not a brilliant one thats out of this world.

add BF2,SF,and the booster packs add night and weather remove most of the bugs and you have game that would be mind bendingly good.

but they have a timescale, and get it out as quick as.......

Moving on to a new title is not nearly so much milkage as the booster scene. I will make my impressions once more info and media is released, though I have doubts on a one year turn around for a sequal... is this possibly some kind of record? I can not think of a single major title that has had a sequal released one year later. Of course there will probably be some delays...

Meh... maybe spore will be out by then, then I won't have to worry about it :)

Also, note that its 2 differnt branches of EA (canada and stockhelm) working on the BF series. Canada is still working on the "boosters" and patch 1.3 (yes, its coming), while stockhelm is working on 2142. so don't be afraid of BF2 dying for awhile.

I think EA have had this whole thing planned from the start. Create a game engine and package the BF2 game with it. Release it and stash the cash. The community will find all the problems and let you know in no uncertain terms, maybe even solving the problems for you. Check out what the modders get up to, take suggestions from the forums and start to develop the next level. Send out your "fixes" and charge more money for them.

Finally, when the community has given all that it can give, both in cash and effort, release the next level of the game, with all the bugs worked out, that should appeal to a larger audience.

BF2 regulars, for the large part, will get the game for the gameplay, futuristic or not while the "spacie" feel will draw in gamers that were not overly interested in the BF genre of the past.

EA will trumpet their success from the rooftops while execs and shareholders will stuff cash into every orifice and applaud from the sidelines.

Bravo.

EA is 25% of the game industry, which pulls in 11 billion a year, and a billion on top of that each year.

know what that means? 250 million and rising is EAs revenue.

EA is on EVERY platform imaginable, you pretend that battlefield 2142 is somehow its first game upon which its success is decided.

the only place i agree with you is that battlefield 2142 is committee designed, horrible idea that should be shot, but it still wont touch EAs success.
