Battlefield 2142 will , mark my words, be the down fall of EA ...

The Sims has been in the charts continuously for 150 years. EA make big bucks, dwarfing revenue from Battlefield, through EA sports. They also have numerous other big selling games...


...i dont see how BF2142 is gonna bring EA down wether is good or not.

yeah it doesnt look like anything will be the fall of EA in the forseeable future considering that EA is the most wealthy games developer in the world and thats up against some stiff competition.

I do agree it is way to early to be releasing a new title in the BF family but were else can EA go but into the future???? like ppl have said weve got 1942 (40's) Vietnam (60's/70's) and BF2 (modern day) wat the hell else can they bring out but a game set in the future. Personally i cant wait for 2142 and the booster packs that are bound to come with it and those mechs.......sweet sweet mechs

Way too early for another BF title to launch. I think they should wait for Windows Vista and perhaps make a huge upgrade.

Other titles of EA including FIFA Street, yeah wow SCORE! Lets face it, DICE have simply put them on the map with BF what other game has EA made that is massively recognised? Don't say FIFA or Medal of Honor pls :|

For the last couple years, EA has produced AMAZING games that everyone loved

you should already know that EA is a big problem for the games market... but credit can be given for some great titles they have published... on the other hand look at the sims genre... can u see that happening to bf series?

"down fall" A little bit melodramatic don't you think? You think this is the only game that they make. Plenty enough of people will buy it.

EA made the Sims and has a huge sport franchise. Check out this game that's being made. It's awesome.

And people just say that you don't like futuristic shooters, that's fine. But don't call them "clichet". They are no more or less clichet than WWii, Vietnam, or Modern genres.

And the futuristic theme hasn't been done to death? Not trying to flame ya, but I think pretty much ANYTHING has been done to death. Unless we get an FPS where we're in medeival times and shoot bows and arrow. Battlefield 1442, now that'd be a more pioneering game. (although I think a few have been done, definately not many)

Sure everything has done to death, this doesn't mean they should just pull off the cliche futuristic game that every other game does by putting in the typical walking tanks, invisibility, lasers etc...

I know EA aren't known for their originality when it comes to games. But if they pulled off some sort of original take on the future, it would be more sucessful. Seeing all the walking tanks and the like in the vids, i don't see it appealing to even those star wars/trek/halo fans. Becuase they have their star wars/trek/halo games.

Actually i find it quite sick that they pay people to come up with ideas for a game, then they come up with a futuristic theme. Only to use such typical and unoriginal ideas that it just throws everyone off.

Sigh...another doomsayer about BF2142. As i stated in another thread: Dont judge the game just because its in the future. You're letting the games setting decide for you whether its good or bad. I don't care if a game takes place in the stone age. If its a good game, i will play it. And im asuming that you have played halo1+2, quake(all 10,000 of them), and the UT series. those all take place the future with no ties to the modern world, and yet, they're all excelent games. So i think that no one here can pass a judgement on this game untill it comes out, or say that its going to be bad just because its in the future.

If the decision had been up to me, I'd have sooner explored a grander battlefield scheme- not just on planet Earth. They could've done a cross between Descent and Red Faction (with the destructible environments, of course) and I think it would've looked more attractive to me. The premise behind this new Battlefield game seems a little far-fetched... and overdone, but whatever.

I'll most likely purchase ET: Quake Wars since I've been an avid supporter of id Software since the Commander Keen era. John Carmack has always seemed to push the envelope of the gaming experience. Sure, Doom III may have just been a re-hash of the past two Doom games, but the graphics, lighting, and physics engine is nothing short of mind-boggling. Personally, I think ET: Quake Wars is going to mop the floor with BF 2142. But that's just my opinion.

i'd have went on with a new engine not a tarted up BF2 one for release 2007 that would take the fps onto a new stage this is more of the same only in the future. Same game different toys to play with.

i think its a case of looking for there next buck, rather than moving the FPS genre on to a new high. an other game will lead the way...

Mark my words. Your "prediction" will prove wrong. Do you seriously think a game with less than two years of development time will break EA even if it doesn't sell one single copy?

I have a counter-prediction. BF2142 will redeem DICE after the troubles of BF2. It will be a great game with some cool new features that take the BF2 experience up another notch. Ultimately it won't sell as well as Battlefield 2, but it will be a better, more stable game.

I love the modern day setting and hope they revisit it in the future, but as a game I think 2142 has a lot of potential. Won't it be nice to not have a real world comparison for all the weaponry and vehicles? I won't have to cringe when my M95 Pulse Rifle doesn't tear someone's carcass in half in one shot because it doesn't exist and I don't know what it actually does. God knows what we'll post about then.
