Realistic (sorta ) games where teamplay and and strategy are key. But this is where EA will fall. EA has always had some basis on real life, such as the guns and armies. They could read up about the L96A1 and say "Very accurate, lets add it as one of our upgrades, " or "Artillery, hmmm, pain in the ass in real life ... lets add it :p " ... There has always been something for EA to look at and adjust it to fit there game and how people play it. When a company tries to go from that, straight into making a futuristic game, with no basis to real life what so ever ... I am sure there will be awful problems. I am an avid gamer and an even stronger BF2 fanboy but ... IM worried about this next one. If in the end, EA pulls through and makes one of the best damn game we have ever seen from them ... then you all can think "Haha ... remember the stupid punk who said this game would suck" . But I simply wanna get my opinion out there. I believe this game will fall through the floor faster than it hits the shelves . Anyone want to agree or disagree with me, plz feel free to proove your point.

The Battlefield series has always been an arcade shooter. This series is not about super realistic tactical gameplay. 2142 may or may not be successful, but my guess is that you will be eating crow when the game finally comes out. 2142 puts itself in direct competition with Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, EA/Dice would be foolish to let ID games walk away with that market share unchallenged. At least EA/Dice is thinking outside the box a bit by moving the Battlefield series into a highly fictional futuristic environment. Endless rehashing of three theaters of war (WWII, Vietnam, and present day conflicts) will lead to stagnation and a true death of the series. I'll play both 2142 and Quake Wars, and I will reserve full judgement on those games until the time I can actually play them.

They might be "thinking outside the box", but as far as the concept, they're a little late on pioneering this out of the box thinking. "Oh, let's just make the game futuristic! That's new and original!" That might have been a relatively new idea and not seemed so cliche-ish if it were maybe...1996 instead of 2006.

Almost any concept at this point has been around a while. But they are taking the Battlefield series in a new direction. What exactly did you want EA/Dice to do? Another WWII or Vietnam or present day conflict game? Something alot of people don't understand here is that EA/Dice isn't their friend, they aren't your buddy, they aren't making these games specificially for each and every person. They have to make a game that as many people will like as possible. They want to make games in order to *gasp!*; make some money.

I imagine it would only be able to be used for a limited time, similar to your sprint. I would also assume not all classes would have cloak, making the class that does have a weaker weapon.

I've put a little thought into this and I've come to a conclusion: EA really didn't have a choice. Not only do they have to compete with Quake Wars, but really... think about it for a second. In order to have a first person online game, what do you have to have? Battle. And weapons. And the gamer of today demands vehicles as well, including planes/helis etc. Anything based in the past will just be a rehash of an older game, made prettier with some new effects and environments. The only way to go is futuristic. Or multidimensional, but that would probably **** y'all off moreso. I agree that the game doesn't look like it's going to be very good, but I'll wait to hear what people say about it before I make my ultimate decision.

Yea you do have a really good point. A new game from them other than the future wouldn't be too new because they've already gone there. Then again you could go the GR: Advanced warfighter way. That wouldn't had hurt to try before this.

EA is the largest publisher in the entire world. I hardly think one poor-selling game (which is probably won't be) will be their downfall.

Dice, on the other hand, is doing just fine too (despite its reputation for shipping buggy games), so it'll be just fine too (for examples, see BFV).

                    BWAHHAHAHAHAA!!

Sorry, didn't make it past that remarkably silly statment.
Yeah, EA is going to crumple up and die because they release a game with very little overhead. This one project, which will cost them almost nothing in terms od dev investment, will consume all the revenues from all their first rate/top selling sports games as well as the other established franchises in their stables.

                    Ok. Words marked.
                    And apropriatly laughed at.

I'd suggest grabbin a clue before you make such claims.

I think that it is to early to tell. Im not really against it or for it, but I do think that it is to early for another BF game and they should hold it off. But when it comes out ill look into it or at least give the demo a shot and see what it is like. If they decide to make a demo

I want them to realize PEOPLE play their games. Thus, they might want to release something that isn't unoptimized and poorly supported. And no, expansion packs aren't support, as the engine they're "running" on is still way off from what we were promised, and possibly what DICE is capable of doing if EA wouldn't drive them like slaves (not that they won't now, since DICE isn't going to be remembered much longer) to release as many games (regardless of quality) in as little amount of time.

And actually, I don't even know that they want to make games. Usually, if someone wants to do something, they do it as close to perfect as possible. Take the want to make games out of that last sentence, and you have yourself a plausible arguement. And maybe insert "regardless of quality of said product." to the end of it.

I do think EA has some guys with some expierience in marketing, so I wouldn't say this is there downfall, just wait untill you get some reviews from the game

the reason to why the release 2142 so "soon" after BF2 is probably that its the same engine as bf2. i also think as previously state by someone that this game will speak to those who play more futuristic shoters such as quake etc.

i think that they want both of the game to be operated side by side ... just to different audiences ...

I don't see why bf2 being futuristic would be a problem to be honest.

They will just base the futurisitc wepaons on current ones but jazz them up a bit.

Its not like its going to have a death star and sharks with lazers on there heads is it?

I can't see what all the fuss is about. I'm a gamer, therefore, the more games there are, the better. BF2 has a kick ass engine, therefore, it makes sense that it is taken advantage of. The game industry is a multi-million dollar industry and posts about "its too early" and the like are a little childish. EA, DICE and whoever else want to generate revenue and good luck to them. BF2142 isn't being developed for the BF2 community it is a separate game in its own right, which doesn't have to bought by anyone if they don't want to. The new BF is being developed by a different team and so is not taking resources away from ongoing BF2 support, therefore, settle petal. If the game is good i'll buy it. Will it split the community? i couldn't care less there will still be servers to play BF2 on, BF1942 is still going. If the new game is better than BF2 then i will play it more and BF2 can gather dust with my copy of FEAR, HL2 and the rest which i played for about 1hr b4 uninstalling. It seems the BF2 community is a little too sensitive at times. Sure every1 is entitled to opinions, so carry on, just know that BF2 in not the centre of the universe and rants/speculation based on 1 trailer of another game are not overly useful to anybody.
