what magical programming language do you use that makes logic bugs easy to find and fix when you have millions of lines of code?

If the entire game (millions of LOC) is written in one studio by one group of people, then sent over to another studio to be fixed by a completely different group of people, they're going to have a hard time since they are unfamiliar with the code.

You're doing a poor job of convincing me that you know anything about software development.

1. The magical Programming tool is called testing. We use "Quality Center" "QTP", "Loadrunner", "Windrunner", "Testdirector", and a slew if in-house tools.

2. You actually believe that DICE canada never got to see the code before it was released? DICE New York wrote some of it dude. You can't excuse bad teamwork. Or maybe the teamwork is there, they just can't fix the bugs that DICE sweeden made.

3. I'm sorry I'm doing a poor job convincing you that i know something about software developement. I was thinking the same thing.

Sing it! This is what I've been saying since the 2142 trailer came out and people kept shouting 'gay mechs'. The game looks cool but we'll just have to wait and see.

Used some of those myself, so have my fellow programmers. They don't stop you writing bugs, or help you fix them. They just provide a way to test & discover them.

The support for the BF2 community is excellent compared to a lot of other gaming communities. People here seem to think it's a capital offense that the game has so many bugs. DICE is trying their best and putting in a lot of effort to try and make everyone happy and they just get **** on for it. Every time they fix a bug people bitch that they didn't fix bugs X, Y, and Z and I'm really getting sick of it.

Name another GOOD game that doesnt have really good support? I just wanna know cause alot of games that I play don't have such serious bugs that it would need so many patches so quick. Also add even more bugs. Alot of games have bugs. Most developers can take theire time with fixes becuase the problems aren't too bad in that state.

Exactly. BF2 is much more complex than the average game so it's understandable that they're having a more difficult time debugging it. That plus the fact that their jobs are probably in jeopardy with the EA acquisition and I like to give them a break

How would you define "too quick" for another game? I wouldn't if they want to keep me interested I want new stuff and now... I play BF2 everyday justabout and man I'll be damned if I don't have a great time everytime I play, regardless of the idiots who TK for a Ride or TK for a Jet or TK just to be idiots... Its a game and should be treated as such.

Comparing the game (50$) to a car (15,000$ or better) is silly that's like comparing an Apple to a Supermarket, if you don't like the game I suggest Uninstalling it and moving on... I count a Half dozen patches, 2 booster packs (once the other ones released) and some kick ass PR people that give us updates pretty darn fast/good and in return there's belly-aching and moaning about how I can't run this game.

Well I'll be having fun with it 8 Months from now, you don't have to buy it if you don't want to, but those that do I am sure out-weighs the amount that doesn't by 10 miles.

For the love of gods and all that is holy please please PLEASE shutup. I dont understand y u guys think that Dice has to do all these unrealistic things u expect them to do. Their making a new Battlefield for us and what do u do. Bitch and nag about how gay its gunna be. Its not out yet, Theres only one trailer, and theres mechs in it man. I think its a good idea, so far. If u can make a futuristic war game that doesnt look like star wars, then y dont u make a game. Then post a forums and c how many people bitch and complain, and u try everything to fix it but for everytime u make a patch theres even more people bitching. Just shutup already. If u dont like bf2 leave seriously, we dont need u cuz theres over 20,000 people that actually like and praise Dice, that we can game with in this world.

Well what do you want the people to do when they have been playing this great game for so long, and here comes patch 1.21 that makes it unplayable. Or they have all the requirements and more to play the game but it stutters, lags, and crashes or watever. They can play all of the games they have except for bf2 for watever reason. I'm not a programmer so I wouldn't know the reason for their game not workin on a comp that meets the requirements.

I must be lucky, I've had BF1942, BF-V, BF2 & all the expansion packs - every single Battlefield release. They have ALL always worked, never crashed, always run fast enough. Just me being lucky

Umm... maybe better support from EA. Instead of Making new games they could be makin better patches that dont screw up even more ****. And fix the problems that have been around for way too long. Even if my sig has no effect on anyone I could care less cause its my opinion. The game should come out like the summer of 07 or somthin at least.

How many hours have you spent playing BF2?

Like giving more time to modders so they can release their mods. So we can enjoy bf2 and all the mods for a longer time. Because even though alot of ppl say they hate 2142 I think alot of ppl will still buy it. Therefore cutting this community down alot. Thats justs my opinion on what might happen.

Edit: plus I think the mod community can address problems alot faster and efficiently than EA and dice can.

So..basicly send home a couple of hundred employees at DICE/EA connected to the BF series(many with families) for say 1 year, so that you can have more people playing mods? Send home those on sound, those on graphics, those on leveldesign, those on 3D, most of the leaders...etc etc.. while the coders fix bugs....maybe send home half of them so the other half can work to fix the bugs? bugs that doesent stop you from having a lot of fun.

When you are content with the time you had with the mods, let them call in the employees again or alow them try to rehire new ones as they have gone to other companies when they found out that they are not getting paid for a year while mods are played. Wow - that is one kickass plan - how did you ever come up with such a brilliant idea? ..

Hell - lets have wOoZiE running EA for a couple of years and see how it goes.

And for those crying about EA wanting to make money - why the frack shouldnt they make money? They are a company that hires 7000 people or so. Someone has GOT to pay these people. YOU try to run a company with 7000 people! and tell me you dont want to make sure you have enough money to pay the sallaries. Tell me you dont want the investors to keep the stock up cause they believe the company will earn money and grow. Go to business school, and then come back and tell me EA shouldnt make new products to make money!

i'm sure the programmers work on a per-project basis, i doubt that they work on a BF game and when it's done immediately work on another game.

I mean - while they take some time off from BF2, make a new game or something. Maybe something java based and fun to put DICE's name out there? Its not like you have to send the programmers home. Hell, have them add more features to the game to delay it to let the market saturate.

Right before bf2 there were LOADS of folks buying BF1942 just for Desert Combat. Sure the game was only 19.99 back then, but it's still good for EA to let the mods soak into more than just the forum community.
