Then took a look at theirs, the only real difference aside from graphical settings (they both have SLI 7800GTX's) was that they were running with EAX enabled. I was not. I suggested to them to turn it off even though they are both running X-Fi cards. They proceeded to do so, and one of the systems began functioning normally, the lag went away. As for the other guy, he still had the problem. But brought to my attention that he had his onboard sound enabled and also used his X-Fi card. X-Fi was for gaming and onboard was used as line-input for his ShoutCast station. So i had him disable onboard audio in his BIOS and try the game again. This time the stuttering had stopped. Both of them havent had any issues since then. Both stated it only began happening after the latest patch was installed.

Im not sure if this has been tried, i didnt read every post in the thread, but merely skimmed through. So if this has already been said, then my apologies.

    Hope this helps.

How on earth will i know if x-fi is enabled. im a bit of a pc nugget. i have an ait radeon 9800 pro. Does that have x-fi? and how do i turn it of. God if you fix my BF2 i will post you a cake.

I stopped reading after the third page so forgive me if this has already been mentioned.

This isn't really a solution but could help you narrow down your problem.

You say the game gets laggier over time as you play? This could be a memory leak. How you fix a memory leak I don't know. But I think it's the game's problem and not yours.

I've read patch notes for other games and some of them read as "memory leak has been fixed for BLAH BLAH BLAH". So you might have to let EA know about this and hope they realease a fix for it.

Re: $20 to anyone who can help me fix the stuttering prob

          Muddy,

Just look in your audio properties tab. It should say in bottom left status bar what sound card your running.

However, if you do not and you are running onboard sound say "the Realtek ALC850, or VIA AC'97 CODEC audio chipset built into your motherboard, then in most games you would not be able to enable the Creative Labs "EAX" technology setting. However, some games will allow you to do so anyway, and if it is enabled it can cause lag issues due to the game attempting to poll for the EAX registers built into the audio chip. When it doesnt find these it begins suffering from consistent CRC or "Cyclic redundancy check" errors. You will not see these unless you are in debug mode for the game. It will also cause conflicts with DIRECTX on your system as well which is also used by your video card, so you will see degraded video perfomance as a result as well. Hence the "Jitter" or "Stuttering" issue. Not to mention that these erros can force the game to use more RAM or virtual memory to try and compensate for the lag decrease in availble resources. I have seen systems with 2gb of memory brought to a crippling halt due to these types of problems.

These errors happen very rapidly and therefore create a stuttering effect on some games.

Also, if you have a PCI audio card you installed as an upgrade but did not turn off the pre-existing onboard audio chipset via your motherboard BIOS options, then at times they can conflict. This is a common problem people have had in recent years. It is also one reason why the option in some BIOS settings shows "SB16 compatibility" or likewise settings that can be enabled, including for the midi audio architecture known as MPU-401.

Nowadays this technology has been superceded, hence cards like the X-Fi and those that can downmix Dolby DTS and other forms in realtime.

These have been my experiences in the past, and ive also read about it and witnessed it second hand.

I hope this helps you, and others understand my reasoning behind posting the info regarding the EAX setting and onboard sound.

If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.

          :)

I tried all of these fixes and none seem to work. Im runnin aPentium 4 with 3ghz, an X600 pci express , sigmatel audio , 1022 RAM. Ive been calling them goobs at EA and each time they blame it on something different. ( theres packet loss from my isp, ADSL, Norton is blocking my ports, yet it worked no problems before 1.2 and 1.21 ) I think these guys are full of crap and they wont take blame for their own #$%@ UP. I just dont understand why my game runs great on 1.12 but laggin hard on the new patches!!! WHHHYYY!!!!!! I would suggest to all you other suckas to reinstall game and patch 1.12 it works on mine faultfree and there are stilll plenty of servers running it. Until this dung can be fixed Ill be seein you boys on 1.12....give it a try

              Ok Guys,

We need to focus less on blaming EA and more on troubleshooting. Yes it worked fine before 1.2 or 1.22 but honestly, what good does it do to bitch and moan about how EA screwed up again. Actually if I'm not mistaken, it's not even EA's fault. Dice made the game, Dice made the patches so it's really Dice's fault. EA is just the publisher. Anyhoo, I am also at a loss for where we go from here with regards to further troubleshooting but I do suggest your connection be as flawless as possible so if you haven't done the following, try it and see what happens

              -----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was having problems with my connection as well as lag and stuttering. I did the following.

              - Uninstalled
              - Ran Adaware
              - Registry mechanic
              - Disk Cleanup
              - Disk Defrag

Then did a full Reinstall with patch 1.2
              No change, Still same problems

              Then did the following:
              Opened the necessary ports ( I use a Linksys BFSR41 V.3 router)
              Rebooted entire network.
              Problems remained

Took phone off splitter and just ran the DSL connection
Worked nicely for about an hour and then the problems re-surfaced

              Reinstalled my nic,
              Problems still there

Then I found the MAC Address of my nic and entered it in the bios.

Since then I haven't had the same problems even with the DSL sharing the same line as the phone.

To me it sounds like there is a problem with the connection SOMEWHERE. I know I know... You never had the problem before said patches. Well we can blame EA for that BUT let's deal with it and move on. Now, this might not help you but it is what I did and it worked for me. Who knows, it might work for you.

              Good Luck

              -----------------------------------------------------------------------

And like I said, Good Luck

                  G.

start | run | cmd | hit enter | NOW do ipconfig -all

it has no command to tell it to stay up, so it completes the task and closes out if you run ipconfig from the run prompt.

anyways, back to the issue. this has to be the most rediculous post i've ever read.. 1st you complain cause you're having issues, then when someone asks your system specs... you rant on like a lil kid about how stupid the Q is..

                  EVERYTHING in software is relevant...
hell.. totally wipe out windows, re-install, install bf2 , repatch to the patch BEFORE the one giving you the issue.. confirm it's an issue w/ that specific change. i wouldn't imagine it's a memory leak seeing how it has a delay for the detegridation of performance, but still a possibility.

better yet, if you're still patched w/ the problem, try it in single player. if SP runs fine it very well can be a network/isp issue. but dude, either way.. don't ask for help then bitch at people for asking questions. if you want someone to complain to while they try helping you, call EA.

                    Ok...

now ive got the ipconfig bit working (thanks syner + akula) but now.. how do i find out my MAC Address of my nic and then how do i enter that into the bios?

If your words where directed at me syner.. there are many many many posts on this site regarding this stuttering/lag like issue.. and it is clear that the people suffering it have a wide range of hardwae types from top of the range 2G of ram etc down to bagain bucket pc's.

I refuse to give my pc specs as the first thing i'll get told is to go and buy more ram... i ahve a 1G of ram that worked fine before the patch. I can't afford to put more money into my computer. I have this issue up on many forums, people keep telling me it's Ram. It can't be a ram issue if people with 2G ram are struggling aswell.

I am jsut tired of being told it's my rig.. the rig that worked fantastically before 1.21

This is not a bitch at you, i'm just tired of being told to upgrade upgrade upgrade.

                    Thanks.

How much system memory do you have? The stuttering could be caused by the hard drive caching the system memory. This is a common problem and is rectifyable.

If you have 1.5GB or more there would be no reason to use a paging file in which case you can turn it off. If you hacve less consider investing more.

In your audio settings, uncheck "Enable EAX".

In regards to this being an issue with the persons internet connection. If this was so, and was to the point that it was bad enough to cause stuttering; then BF2 displays a message on the screen stating that "There is a problem with your connection" and the whole game pauses until it clears...

ok well the patch is out i patched and to NO suprise it fixed nothing.

i did various video settings and commands in the console and nothing worked.

                              Here are some images

First one is Single player with all settings HIGH and AA2x

This is Single player LOW with all settings low 75% viewing distance

and this is multiplayer LOW with same settings as low Single Player

Look at the FPS in the top left, the first digits before the slash are what your FPS are.

EA, eat my ass. Address the problem which you KNOW is there.

Muddy, I know it's not what you want to hear but if you keep being told to get more RAM then why don't you just do it man??? I mean, as far as upgrades go, it is the cheapest thing you can do to upgrade your PC and it will benefit your rig in more ways than just gaming. RAM is pretty cheap nowadays and even though I have a 9800 Pro and I'm happy with the 1.5 gigs of Ram that I have, I'm totally gonna go out and buy another stick of 1024. I mean, it's gonna cost me 121.99 CANADIAN so I'm all over that. And get this.... I'm having NO PROBLEMS WITH B2 LOL. I'm just getting it so I can bring a few more settings up is all :)
