Re: Is the Essex gun balanced?

It is fine the way it is. You shouldn't be over raping the carrier anyhow. Fly around closer to land and when the choppers, boats and other jets come along, go after them. You can keep them at bay without bombing and strafing the hell out of the carrier.

If you choose to go over there, you get to deal with guns that serve their purpose just fine. The point of them is to keep jets and choppers away. They do their job just fine, assuming someone mans them. That job is to keep the carrier safe. The stingers are weaker, but the team with them has other spawn points.

      The Essex is fine.

The BIG, HUGE issue with 95% of the AA is that it's:

      1) Completely exposed in open air all the time
      2) Completely static; the AA sites and turrets are always in the same places, so any pilot with functioning short term memory can strafe the locations long before lock is possible

There needs to be more mobile AA in this game.

Look guys its not like im a total noob. Ive things hundreds of times. Im just saying that in comparison to the sole (thats right ONE) stinger guarding the airstrip on land, its way too powerful.

I mean if they had the equivalent of essex guns on maps like Oman and Wake.....well there would be alot less baseraping against the chinese/mec side.

I mean look at the wake stinger.

Its placed right behind a bunker.

Talk about limiting the field of fire....

This is one more reason that they need an anti air kit. Mobile stingers. The element of surprise would be key.

Moblie stingers would be ridiculously overpowered....unless it was only one shot AND had a long reload time.

            Would be fun tho.

well consider a stinger is man portable, it kinda places a limit on the warhead size and thus power. Use a dedicated vecicle mounted system and u can use heavier and larger missiles. simple really

Pff, it takes you five seconds of fire to nail the 'essex gun'? You're complaining becuase you want your base raping to be easier? Sorry, you ARE a 'total noob'.

And yes, " if they had the equivalent of essex guns on maps like Oman and Wake.....well there would be alot less baseraping against the chinese/mec side." You are correct. That would be a good thing, though, so I don't see what point you're making.

Go and learn to fly instead of moaning that you can't rape the carrier at will.

IT is much better- It actualy guards the carrier now! before pilots would have nothing to worry about flying about over the carrier. Now they cower in fear!

No anti-air kit. There's a huge possibility for imbalance because any number of people can take it, and from a design standpoint, you just don't know how many are going to be active at a given time.

If you create more mobile AA vehicles at least you can regulate how many there are on a given map.

And honestly, a big Essex turret on the Oman MEC airfield wouldn't do much - I'd just blast it with an AT rocket from the construction site (or any of the hills surrounding that sad little base) and knock it out.

On that note, however, they need to beef up all of the CPs and bases - they're just laughably pointless right now, and I've always wondered why the MEC would bother defending any of them.

"Oh, you want to control this little hut that has no tactical value? No, I won't let you!"

Ughh I already told you, I guess im not allowing for bullet drop or something...or maybe its just the server I play on.

And im not a total noob for the past week ive been flying jets my jet K/D ratio went from around 50:200 to 1,697:425.

Am I a pro? No? Am I anywhere near a pro? No.

Does that mean I don't know what im talking about? Not neccesarily.

I guess im not adjusting for bullet drop when attacking the Essex but im not talking about Jet vs. Essex. Im talking about the fact that the stinger is nowhere near as much defence for the main land base as the dual essexs are for the carrier.

Thats what they need to change IMO. At least two stingers. The problem is that every time on wake the first thing a good US pilot does is take out the stinger and then baserapes away FTW.

You're so wrong. Is there not enough hassle with unbalanced issues in the game without you bringing something so stupid up? Compairing an aircraft carrier's defence weapon to a ground stinger? Lmao.

Umm hello.....this IS a balance issue.

Here we have two equal places...il use Oman as an example...

The usa carrier has two essex guns to defend thier main base.

The MEC side has many stingers but only one to defend the area where the jets spawn and I think one other to defend area around chopper.

                          Two essex vs. two stingers.

                          Is that balanced?

Considering on Oman you can take a tank, a jeep, or even WALK to the nearest CP (Construction site) in a reasonable amount of time negates the issue. Do you know how far away the Essex is from ANY other useful place on the map? If you could move the Essex inland or something I'd be inclined to agree with you (although I'd rather they set up big coastal defense guns instead if that were the case), but since the Essex is an uncappable static CP way in the hell out in the toolies there's no reason for it to not have awesome defenses. Plus, the Chinese 'main' (Airfield) on Wake is CAPPABLE. Imagine if the US capped it and they now had two land-based Essex guns available to thwart all the GROUND attacks. You want unbalanced, you'd have it there for sure.

Hmmm. I disagree. I think all static A.A. should be removed and be replaced with shoulder fired Anti-Air.

Anti-Tanks could then be "nerfed" for a strictly Anti-Tank role. Such as, their missiles no longer have acceptable climb to catch a high hovering helo. The job to destroy all Air should be on the shoulder's of vehicles and troops.

Yet. The Anti-Air "Kit" shouldn't be a "Kit". It should be an Alternate to the Anti-Tank rocket. Same class, different shoulder fired weapon. Therefore you cannot just have a entire squad full of Anti-Air... primarly because on tank would ruin your day.

...or. Maybe just add a "Linebacker" for every Jet the enemy side has. Not helo, Jet. If the enemy has one Jet. The other side has one Linebacker (or whatever the others are called). Two Jets, two linebackers. Etc. etc.

Also, increase the range of the Anti-Air lock of the linebackers. It's not like they are complicated to take out from a Jet's perspective. They should be a Jet's humbling factor. Not just a "temporary target".

Yea, remove the USS Essex's main defence weapons and give them stingers.
