Re: Is the Essex gun balanced?

Oman like Wake and any other map that the US has the carrier in place has one initial spawn where as the opfor has many. Gee lets nerf the defense platform on the carrier then 2 planes and one attack chopper can rape all day until until their own apc's finally pull up and help finish the round.

Re: Is the Essex gun balanced?

Considering on Oman you can take a tank, a jeep, or even WALK to the nearest CP (Construction site) in a reasonable amount of time negates the issue. Do you know how far away the Essex is from ANY other useful place on the map? If you could move the Essex inland or something I'd be inclined to agree with you (although I'd rather they set up big coastal defense guns instead if that were the case), but since the Essex is an uncappable static CP way in the hell out in the toolies there's no reason for it to not have awesome defenses. Plus, the Chinese 'main' (Airfield) on Wake is CAPPABLE. Imagine if the US capped it and they now had two land-based Essex guns available to thwart all the GROUND attacks. You want unbalanced, you'd have it there for sure.

      ~Wolfgang
      I understand your point.

I don't want the chinese/mec side to have two essex guns on it. Im just asking for two stingers to defend the airfield rather than 1. Thats still WAAAY less powerful than the dual essex on the carrier and yet can easily be taken out.

And if US captures the main point as a chinese player I could care less, its not like dual stingers is going to help in ground defense.

Yea, remove the USS Essex's main defence weapons and give them stingers.
UGhh i know thats saracasm but i didn't ask for that.

Once again, I didn't ask for Essex nerf, I asked for dual stingers on the mainland defending the airfield.

Re: Is the Essex gun balanced?

            Two Issues here:

1.) The AA Units on the USS Essex are not called... "Essex's". They are a combination AA Unit made up of a Mk-29 NATO Sea Sparrow Launcher and a Mk-15 Phalanx 20mm Cannon... These are mounted on the SHIP called the USS Essex... stop calling the guns Essex's... it makes you sound ignorant.

2.) Plain and simple, jet pilots ought to be absolutely TERRIFIED to get within 200m (in the game) of the carrier. The carrier ought to be nothing less than an intimidating, impenetrable (by air or sea) floating fortress that is to be respected and feared. The only attack the carrier should ever come under is from stealthy Spec Ops units that sneak aboard to attack commander assets or AA Units. Likewise, the only things from the sky that US Marines on the flight deck should fear are buring hulks and debris from enemy aircraft that were just ANNIHILATED by the AA Units on the Essex. Do you think for a fraction of a second that ANY US carrier ever gets... "base-raped" by enemy aircraft? No way... they realize if they get too close, they're going home in a bag. Thats how it should be... there's no way an enemy aircraft should be able to completely cut the balls off (kill AA Units) the carrier without firing anything more than a MACHINE GUN. The only thing a carrier fears from the air is a massive, long-range anti-ship missle such as the Exocet... don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that a missle such as the Exocet has any place in a game such as BF2, but you get the idea...

Yes you did, from your own post.

"I just want a slight HP decrease maybe 20%"

20% HP reduction is a nerf, no reason to use it if a jets cannons can already kill it in 2 seconds.

Very impressive. But for the sake of conversation, I think we'll just stick to referring to the aggregate weaponry on the carrier as "the Essex". I don't want to type:

Do you guys think that the Mk-29 NATO Sea Sparrow Launcher and a Mk-15 Phalanx 20mm Cannon are really overpowered compared to the MEC stinger? I think that the MEC airfield should have something like the Mk-29 NATO Sea Sparrow Launcher and a Mk-15 Phalanx 20mm Cannon because the single stinger just isn't enough.

Yes I thought about that originally and then u guys convinced me not to do that. Look the point is I just want the defenses for both airstrips to be equal considering they are both main bases.

1.) The AA Units on the USS Essex are not called... "Essex's". They are a combination AA Unit made up of a Mk-29 NATO Sea Sparrow Launcher and a Mk-15 Phalanx 20mm Cannon... Look man, this is real life not some fanasty world of yours. First of all its a game and so its all programming and software....second not everyone goes around calling things by their real name.

When I talk about shooting down a chopper with a 50 cal I call it a 50 cal because its easier than saying "I shot down a chopper with a water cooled, coaxial mounted machine gun on an american made DPV"

2.) Plain and simple, jet pilots ought to be absolutely TERRIFIED to get within 200m (in the game) of the carrier. The thing we are discussing here is balance not realism.

In real life, yes, jets don't go against carriers with thier cannon.

But in BF2 they do, and im not saying the Essex guns (yes godd@mn it im going to keep calling them that FVCK you if you dont like it) are unbalanced against jets. Im saying they are unreasonably stronger than the sole stinger defending the main airstrip on land.

You have to be kidding me right? You're really going to try to put a majority of the community down by splicing an fantasy (Yes, the current in-game implementation of the systems is fantasy) Anti-Air system? ...then have the nerve to call people ignorant?

...we don't give a damn what's "comprised" of. In BF2, it's the "Essex". That's what's assigned to the kill tag, that's the name of the gun. I cannot belevie your nerve to try to throw some limited elitism into the fray with some "Common Knowledge" information.

Heck. If we wanted to go as far as you, " Everyone... stop saying you were killed by the F-35B... It's not the F-35B that killed you it's the GAU-12/U 25 mm cannon that killed you. Stop calling the guns the F-35B. It makes you all sound ignorant"

                      I swear. Some people.

the essex should be way tougher with more firepower, this will discourage baseraping of the carrier with a jet

The Essex as already mentioned needs to have such powerful weapons as unlike other uncappable spawns it is a hell of a lot harder to escape from for the vast majority therefore would turn into a big gang rape!

Therfore its not right to compare to other spawns where its at least feasible to run and hide and even stand a chance of recapping!

To be honest for the bulk of most Essex maps iv played after the inital attacks the guns are hardly needed so why complain about them?

Are you saying there is more room to hide on the mainland than there is on the essex?

The essex you can just go below deck and never be killed by a jet.

With 1.2 who needs that stupid gun?

1.12 I would have prefered a wider grouping of the bullets to create a BHAWK type of tracer,a wider cone that didnt need precision aiming.
