Meh, I like the trade off for hand 'nades with with G3. There's plenty of times where I find a 'nade in the hand is worth two in the toob. However, the rifle itself does need to rock if you're going to make it the focus weapon for the class.

Let's try and keep this on topic - we can make a separate "Plight of the Assault Class" thread if we need to.

Did someone say "Major implementation investment required"?

Bi-pods aren't likely to happen because it would require a significant amount of work. Before you start calling everyone lazy 'n stuff, just try to understand that this sort of thing wasn't a priority for BF2's design.

Tweak suggestions are best when they involve very little in the way of implementation. Like, none. None is good! That makes them WAY more likely to happen.

I don't wanna get away from the idea of balance via context just yet tho. Does anyone else have thoughts on how an improved assualt class could make the support less dominant?

Aye... well, the two issues are the same in my mind. As mentioned above, there's not much chance of some of the ideas presented to "fix" the PKM or every being implemented. Numbers can be futzed with, but I'm thinking that the ones that need futzing aren't some much the PKM as the ones that should be killing the PKMers.

Er, but yeah... more recoil and less standing/crouching acc is good thinks too.

Re: The Problem(s) with the PKM - and it's not the accuracy.

Off-topic real quick, I feel the G3 is perfectly balanced and makes a really deadly tool. The 20-round clip is both realistic and still practical, it doesn't stop me. (: I find the F2000 to be a disappointment because of how stupid it looks and because of the nade launcher. Would have rather received an AUG or something else scoped, you know? Regardless, the medic vs. assault situation is a rather dire one..

And back on-topic, while the PKM deserves such high damage output and accuracy benefits, I just can't help but be bothered that this is by far and undeniably the best machine gun in game (and available to every army..). I mean, like quite a few of the other unlocks, it's one of the rare weapons that isn't largely used on the battlefield. Well, as far as I know. I think they should buff up the SAW and perhaps the RPK a little and even the MG36 just to give them all fair capabilities. It's like the M16 vs. AK argument-- All these unlocks have people running around with rare/weird weapons and it's disappointing to see all the marines holding PKMs rather than SAWs. Mostly a pet pieve, but eh.. The game was much better when you had to work hard for 1 or 2 unlocks and those were your unlocks and you had to choose wisely. Even in my case, there's only two of them I don't have. Le sigh.

As far as MGs vs. sniper rifles, I agree with Variable. A mounted (well.. prone?) machine gun should be well capable of spraying or bursting at a visible sniper and taking him out. Besides, as a sniper, I don't have problems taking out support players, they're snacks for me. One well placed shot to the dome. If you can't aim, don't snipe, hmm?

Meh. I'm supportin your call, while reminding folks about the whole idea of context. Too many people forget that it's all part of a system where changes to any element have an impact on every other.

I don't disagree with you - but we need some focus to have a worthwhile discussion about the specific support issues.

Yet, we pretty much already wrapped up what needs to happen.

                    1. Delay time while diving to prone.

                    2. Some form of Recoil (preferably a logical one) to replace the outrageous random deviation system; at least take priority over it.

3 Apply the changes to every kit.

Other than the usuall crop of players who follow the lines of, " Everything is fine! You're just a n00b!" I don't see what else could be added.

                      first

                      the PKM does have recoil

second , it has a delay

third it can be used standing up, but not so great .

The PKM is indeed UBER now, but I stick to my point, at medium to far distance, I kill every support with an assault or carbine, when we both see eachother at the same time .

Also, the assault and carbines are a big deal more acurate standing up, or moving around , when you move around with the PKM, you will notice, it gets very hard to shoot something down

Hehe, yeah... well, those tweaks are rather obvious. That is, to everyone other than Dice, it seems. :p

Thus my interest in the extended issues. I don't want to see the PKM reduced to worthlessness like the toob. Just because something is effective, doesn't mean it's broken.

Not obvious to everyone. I made that thread because people were spouting off various solutions in other threads, including the completely muddled PW video thread.

                            I am all about clarity.

                              Figure of speach, is all.

It does drive me a little batty sometimes when I'm reading people's suggestions to "just" add a completely new feature that the engine doesn't currently support. I understand that not everyone has a background in game design and don't understand what's involved in implementing even simple sounding features, but when they get all indignant about it it's just broadcasting ignorance.

                              Whoop. Tangent rant there.

...at least you caught yourself. I never seem to be able to catch myself and it just turns into lines after line of constructive hate.

Yet, it's only constructive in my mind.
