I've played and enjoyed every version of Battlefield. I played 1942 and all of it's expansion packs. I played most of the mods including Desert Combat and my personal favorite, Eve of Destruction. I also played alot of Battlefield Vietnam.
Until a couple of weeks ago, I hadn't played any new PC games for a couple years because I had an old PC. About 3 weeks ago I built a brand new gaming PC. I wanted to be able to play all the latest games with full video settings. But the one game I had in mind most when building my PC was BF2! I love the format of the battlefield games and looked forward to playing with some spectacular graphics.
So....I started playing BF2 3 weeks ago. It LOOKS awesome. I love some of the new gameplay features like sprinting and the commander mode. Great job on those DICE!
But....WHY DO THE GUNS SUCK SO BAD?
I couldn't believe how ineffective ALL of the guns in this game are. The guns were more effective in EVERY version and mod of battlefield I've ever played before. BF2 guns spray so much it looks like you are throwing a handful of rocks at any target over 15 ft away. HINT: People can run and jump and go prone like a bunch of monkeys because you've ruined the guns.
If you were in a modern war and there were a bunch of bad guys down the street, would you run across the street to the other side? No, because they would shoot and kill you. In this game you can because you know that over 50 ft. there's almost no chance that guy is going to kill you.
I've always enjoyed using infantry combat tactics. In this game the element of surprise or superior movement is ruined because the "victim" always has a chance to retalitate due to the worthless guns in this game. Why be patient and flank the enemy line? Since you can't be effective with a gun you will be killed soon after you show yourself anyways.
DICE, please drastically reduce the spray on the guns. It completely ruins the infantry combat portion of the game...which IMO, should be the best part of your game. There are only so many vehicles on any map. It should be still be a fun game if all you have is a gun and your wits. As it is now, you are just a victim for a plane or armor whore. And if you do manage to get involved with infantry combat the rediculous spray of the guns makes your life short regardless of skill level.
If you can unload a clip into a guy's chest before he sees you and he can just turn around kill you instantly with a lucky shot to the head then there is a MAJOR problem with the game.
When a Operation Clean Sweep copilot can just push a button and register all opposing armor useless, there is a MAJOR problem with the game.
The problem? IT'S NOT FUN.
As a faithful Battlefield player I am totally disappointed with BF2. DICE forgot the most important gameplay element of all......FUN
To other Battlefield players: are there any games or devolopers out there that actually get it? I'm looking for a FUN battlefield type of game to play on my brand new rig. Oh, I tried CS Source and it is more fun than BF2. But I miss the wide open Battlefield format. Any suggestions?
