People who aren't 'n00bs' in any sense of the meaning get called 'n00bs'. So, yes, you're all correct in the opinion it is over/misused

Some people assert the term was taken from another game. Just not the case at all. As long as there has been online gaming of any sort there has been the 'n00b' word.

The replacement word for n00b is "chair." Just as when someone calls me a n00b it doesn't make me one any more than being called a chair makes me a chair.

        So don't be a chair!

Someone who always spells correctly will be forced by there own self discipline to use as close to proper spelling and grammar as possible even when attempting to use slang, such as newb. I do not believe the spelling defines the meaning as such although it may be fair to suggest that most academics will lead a more privileged lifestyle and quite probably talk ‘posh’, which must be taken into consideration.
Those less well disciplined in academia will find that shape and form are of more importance than correct grammar or spelling. The ‘n00b’ user will most likely also call friends ‘mate’ and possibly shop at Lidl.
Hahaha, way to alienate the rest of the english-speaking population here. What's Lidl, posh and mate? Yeah, we're not from that constantly raining country.

I think my biggest shocker was hearing someone using the term in public to discribe a non-gaming related mishap. Funny how cultures tend to bleed into one another, eh?
I played a little of Tribes 2. I thought "skiing" was a feature? People considered it cheap? Hmmm I just thought that was how you got around.

In my General Psychology class the professor was discussing the "Uber ich", and asked if anyone knew what uber meant, so I had to throw out the "very" term. And he's like "AH! You're coming from the gamers perspective?" I was shocked that he knew of the context of uber gamers are familiar with.

ski jumping has been around since tribes 1, and was alsways considered a legitimate tactic - especially with heavies that moved like fuggin slugs.

the people who call ski-jumping in tribes cheap are the ones that dont know how to do it.

bunnyhopping and dolphin-diving in BF2 are another story altogether. in tribes you are fat freakin aliens flying around with jetpacks shooting lazers and exploding discs at one another in outer space. BF2 is a military tactical shooter, that while isnt totally realistic (mainly for fun and balance reasons), at least attempts to be so. when it the last time you saw a soldier in iraq jumping around like a fuggin rabbit with 80 lbs of gear shooting his grenade launcher at his feet, screaming 'hAhA u sUcKz0rz n00bs!'. or dolphin-diving?

i honestly never thought it gave them any significant advantage. they may have thought so, but i never had any problem killing bunnyhoppers or dolphin divers - i just didnt like it because it looked stupid as hell, and i was sick of listening to people b!tch about it for hours on end about it on every server i played on. im glad its gone.

The surfing in Tribes began as a bug that the community basically accepted as legitimate and it became so popular that it was officially included in later games. At least that's what I heard since I've never played it.
