Wow... all the whining about free speech in a video game and being kicked/banned for cussing. Pretty pathetic.

While I understand the ocasional verbal slip while using a microphone (As my wife would say... I am a potty mouth sometimes) the over use, abuse, etc of it is really nothing more than silly (And like I said... I am the king of silly sometimes).

What gets me are the people the cry about TYPING their curses... that takes thought and time. It doesnt happen accidently.. and unfortunately happens more and more.

I like the filter... and, accept the kick/ban when I err. I'm not paying ofr a server and abide by their rules.

Keep in mind... your right to free speech infringes on my right not to have to hear it. Whose is more important? would only be determined face to face... not whining on a game forum

wooohooo, finaly a well thought out and solid arugument.

1)you dont play so go away.
2)free speach has nothing to do with it. That "Right" is there to protect individuals who wish to express their opinions and beliefs without fear of government retaliation. For example; "Bush is a bad president." That is perfectly acceptable in game, however "F' Bush, the F'in F'nut." is not. Do you see the difference?
3)Children could be playing. I agree that they probably hear those things at school, however that dose not mean that they should be inundated with it at every possible occasion.
4)So those BF2'rs that like to have a game free of your cookie cutter insults are insecure retards who suck at life? Nice generalization. Let me try one......hmmm lets see... ahh got one: you people with more numbers than letters in your name are insecure retards who suck at life. How was that?
Either filter yourself or filter your servers.

I guess it may be the fact that I don't play quite as much as some people, but I don't really have all the problems with tk'ers that much, although I do have the occasional dumbarse who decides that the attack chopper that me and my clanmate are about to take off in is "his/her" chopper, and think that putting a few rounds into the back of my head is the way to take care of the situation. Yes, at that point would I like the option of respawning and smashing them in the face with the butt of my rifle or pistol-whipping them, and then spewing forth a string of obscenities that would make the saltiest of sailors blush. But, I usually just say "oh, well. guess that guy reeeeally wanted that chopper.", and I go about my way.

I dont' necessarily agree with having a language filter, but then again, I'm an adult who's heard and said much worse than most could even come up with. I also understand that there are people in the world who don't want to hear (or read) cuss words. So, instead of just letting everyone and their brother turn BF2 into the weekly poker night, they have a filter. I do not agree, however, with someone being kicked for it. If the filter is smart enough to recognize cuss words, it should be smart enough to fix them. (ie - you type the "f" word, it comes out as "f%#k") People get the point, you don't get kicked, and no one actually sees the "offensive" word.

With that said, I have to admit that I really ****ing hate dumbass c4 chuckers!

Thankfully you can say 'Bollocks' and '****er' on most servers.

I don't quite understand people saying no bad language cos of their kids. If your ****ed up enough to let your young kid on a game that is all about killing in the most realistic way seen so far in computer games, then you shouldn't worry about some cuss words.
Grown-ups getting offended over cuss words need to get a life and stop being some middle-class do-gooder arsehole. YOUR PLAYING A WAR GAME !!!! I think your find most solders cuss, wot with their life being endanger and all.

Children shouldn't be playing, this is a rated release. You spell like a six year old, maybe you should head back to school for a GED? Especially before calling people retards. If you can't handle swearing, go and play solitaire. The swear filter is just another of EA's "let's-appease-the-whiners" decisions, ie, ****ing bollocks.

I agree with Colinloves, where does the expression "To swear like a trooper" come from? IS IT SOMETHING TO DO WITH SOLDIERS? Well **** me with a tuning fork! Realism > EA :P

                      Re: Punkbuster 'language filter'

The banned word list is created by the admins on the server you are playing on. By default when you get the server first started up - there are only like 5 words in there - one is a phrase, and sorry, but I have never heard anyone say it in the years of playing bf and bf2....donkey c*m? who the hell uses that phrase?

Anyway - point being - bitch at your admins - they are the ones that add noob and n00b, etc....which as an admin I think is retarded.

Oh and as for the kids not playing we should be allowed to cuss - well one of the best players in this game that I have seen and regularly play with is 12 years old. He wipes the floor with pretty much anyone on the server and takes the gold almost every round.

I have no problem not swearing...but adding noob, retard, stuff like that - I think is just sad.

I believe it is rated 13+ and at that age you are still considered a child or minor.
Spelling insults thats the best you have. Ohh nope seems you have reached deeper into your bag of creative and well founded arguments to pull out the virtual ace of spades with "go play solitare". Bravo, Bravo, you are truely a master debater. Your degree in aeronautical engineering from a "reputable" university is really paying off.
EA dosent force you not to swear on a server. The server admin makes that choice. If you have an issue with the rules of a specific server go to their forum and whine.

                          Re: Punkbuster 'language filter'

I am a game server admin (many games) and i AGREE with language filtering for the following reason:

It is not to stop bad language per-say, as stated above this is an adult game, the reason is stop the servers turning into flame-fests..... you call someone a noob, they call you something back and then other join in telling you to STFU, and so on and so on...... Gameplay can easily turn into a free for all arguement. instead of a fun game.

As for what words are filtered this is down to the admin, some will use swear words only, a lot will use swear words and common childish insults (noob, cheater, etc) and some will go even further to make sure only mature players are left.

I swear in real life as much, if not more then the next man, i have nothing against bad language but if people cant hold off insulting someone else just because they are killed in a videogame then quite frankly i dont see why i should have to deal with them in a server, games are here to have fun.

Regarding the kicks for words contained in other words (assets for example) this is i agree unfortunate but the ratio of mistaken kicks is very low compared to genuine ones. also *usually* its a kick not a temp ban so you can simply rejoin and learn the words you cant use very quickly. NO points are lost regardless as long as you have been in the server for at least 5 minutes as your stats will still get updated at the end of the round, if you rejoin you will still have the same score you left with.

Assumption is the mother of all ****-ups, like assuming everybody who swears is ignorant/stupid.
Just because you have a degree, doesn't mean you are not ignorant. One is not related to the other.
