The default filter in BF2CC (which many use) is just plain stupid.

Its still possible to call someone a barsteward or to use alternative spellings that sound the same or if your feeling talented you can eleberate into almost poetic outbursts such as “rubber duck, why don’t you go outside and play hide and go muck yourself”.
It is a bit more amusing and can help calm a situation when people see such one liners where an insult should be.
      But…
I believe swear words do have a place within the English language, specifically to add emphasis and feeling to certain statements.
When we talk face to face with people we use a variety of facial expressions, body language and voice tone on top of the actual words to convey the entire meaning of what we are saying. The internet removes all but the words in written form which leads to countless misunderstandings, sarcasm the obvious example, but feeling also.
It is a bit easier on a forum such as this to write a longer explanation and get around the problem of correctly expressing yourself but in the game things move at a faster pace which really removes the possibility of typing meaningful sentences to express the correct level of distain you have at a team mates conduct.

      Re: Runway killing, 24/02/2006

      Dear Sirs,

I write to express my upset with your intolerable behaviour approximately one second ago where you found it necessary to kill me, a fellow team mate, as I attempted to offer you medical assistance due to the damage you sustained moments early when the enemy bombed the runway.
I am of the opinion that this callous act may represent a flaw in your personality overall and that I have a duty to point that out to you in no uncertain terms in an attempt to encourage you to seek professional help to address the evidently serious and deep psychological symptoms you are suffering from.
If It were possible for me to introduce a level of punishment beyond a deficit in you score for your actions I think my choice would be to remove your still beating heart from your garrotted torso and beat you about your lifeless face until such a time as I feel satisfied that vengeance has been served.
Any repeat of the above incident will serve to strengthen my resolve and will lead me one stage closer to being at the state of mind to find out where you life and incinerate you as you sleep.

      Best regards,

      Bzb

This will never happen as an in-game message due to the lack of time available to write a message but all the content still needs to be expressed. The only means of doing so is to condense the number of words used whilst still retaining the total meaning.

***k you, you total dog faced c***

Contains all the meaning of the extended version and also quick to type and I feel it would be an easier means of expressing my upset.

The problem comes where there are people who must write books for a living as every other word they type is f***, given the single ‘f ‘ word in the short insult above accounts for approximately fifty words from the extended version these players would have little trouble in authoring the Lord of the Rings sized novel in a matter of minutes.

But as for kids reading naughty words, I had a kid screaming in my ear last night every profanity ever, every time he was killed, a bizarre dual standard that he would have been booted for typing it.

Well S**t, why kick a poor M***er F***er off of a server for cussin'? I mean, It's not like the dumb a** who is cussing doesn't have a good god d*** reason. There is nothing worse, IMHO, than having some base raping piece-of-s*** camped out at your f***ing spawn point, killing you as you spawn. What pi**es me off it is the fact that the base raping bast**d doesn't get his/her a** kicked when the server rules state plain as f***ing day NO BASE RAPING. So, here I am, getting a Cobra shoved up my a** as soon as I spawn and get kicked for saying bad words.

        Golly dang nabbit.

I am "for" a language filter. If you don't like it, don't join my server. It is that easy. If the only way you can express yourself is through foul language, then go back to school and get your GED. There are thousands of words in the english language, I am sure you can live without 50 of them. Ignorance is the root of most evil.

          Cya,

P.S. Here is a good server.

          ENJOY.

the language filter is admin option
we auto kick after 3 uses of the REAL bad words
and if we see even the smaller words
              I comment as admin
              to keep it cool
no need to trash talking with insults
yes it IS a killing game
but there ARE kids here = and imho
no sense in helping then think that
              dam# ; fuc$; a##; gay, sh@t
              are proper words
even though they are now on public TV
so, if I see one guy
(and I guess it is usally the younger ones always with some slur or gutter talk - I say 'real' nice as admin
hey (insernamehere) please tone it down
              and they ALL do

I dont care one way or another about language filters The only thing is is people are taking the filter to the extremem and kicking for words like idiot, omg and stupid crap like that. I mean come on how else can one find creative ways to say a$$, SH!T, nube, and phuck. If you know a server is kicking for language and dont want to get kicked then dont swear. I have never been on a server where it didnt warn you about language 1st before kicking. Anywho thats my 2 phucking cents!

Okay, I have a degree in aeronautical engineering from a very respectable university, which I'm guessing is a cut above whatever this GED thing is, yet I *love* a good swear, especially at self-righteous ****s like you. So where does that leave me?

Assumption is the mother of all ****-ups, like assuming everybody who swears is ignorant/stupid.

Despite your hefty credentials you seemed to miss the point of his post. To clearify for the rest of you aeronautical engineers he said:
"IF" you are unable to express yourself without the use of a few choice words you should
                      a) Get your General Education Degree (lower in the U.S than a high school diploma) i.e. learn new ways to express yourself.
                      b) Not play in severs that filter your beloved swears.

This is not that big of a problem. Take a deep breath and realize not everyone wants to be subjected to your potentialy creative but usualy redundent use of a select few words/abbrv of words. To those of you who say "its a game of violence", religion is filled with violence yet you dont close a sermone with f***in a' lets get lunch.

I could really care less what people say..I just ignore it if I don't wanna see it. But if I had my own server I might just turn on the filter for the fact that Trash Talking is not needed sometimes..And i undertsand that sometimes people wanna just say one thing out of anger but I have seen many incidents where one person is just flaming everyone..making it a less enjoyable experience and honestly I would rather have someone swear then say noob a hundred times...Its just pointless..But hey do what you will...

But like I was trying to get to earlier people have to pay for the one loser in the masses..Im am sure the majority of you don't abuse it and flame people who wanna just relax and play vids..But one bad apple ruins the bunch...:)
