    Punkbuster 'language filter'

This question isn't directed to EA nor DICE, its directed to punkbuster.

I think that the PB language filter should be deleted, in every game people swear, use 'slang' language and they like it. now PB has kicked me about 70 times for saying words like 'noob, n00b, omfg, omg, ffs, cheater, ... it's outrageous. why does PB filter in the first place? are people offended if i say 'omfg, you cheater! noob' or 'omg, don't TK me noob!' and things like that. even when i was enthousiastic 'omfg nice shot, you're no noob' at that' PB kicked me, i get one warning and then ... 'you got kicked by punkbuster' then I have to load the map all over again. (not that it takes long, but it's an unwanted pause from the game)

If PB fliters because of people may be offended by bad language, that's crap! if people are offended by that litle of swearing, then how the hell can they play BF2? headshots are cool, mass murdering with bombs is good, throwing C4 into the masses works great, even knifing someone in the head goes in BF2, but if I say the word 'noob' i get kicked. Even if I say a 'bad' word in a squad with some clan friends, or just friends, it gets me kicked!!!

I have lost medals, awards and a lot of points by this silly system.

I hope someone realises the idiotness (another word that got me kicked) in BP language filtering, pls post your comments, i do not want to make fun of BP in general, its a great protection against cheaters, but filtering our own language? no way!

Solution: make an option in punkbuster/BF2 to turn on/off language filtering, that way the curser doesn't get kicked and feels happy, while the person who might be offended by it just doesn't recieve the post
--> The admins don't have to decide what's good for us, but let us decide if we want to hear cursing

Please: no post like 'You have to behave on servers' because when you get raped 10 times in a row on karkand by a tankwhore, i know you've got the itch to type rants too

To protect my self from further harm, i have disabled the chat buttons, so i can't chat, nor sweare against my team or the others. amen!

    Re: Punkbuster 'language filter'

This is purely an optional feature and is up to the admins to enable/disable.
There is a punkbuster site & forum, perhaps you should check it out.

Rob I couldnt have said it better myself!! I am one of the biggest anti-language filter people out there. After I get kicked for saying Darn I come back in the server and say "In A Teen rated game with mass death and destruction everywhere, you cant cuss." Lots of people say, "Well you never know if a little kid or 12 year old is playing thats why I have the filter on" WELL DUH. Why would a 12 year old be playing the game in the first place? EVEN PG-13 MOVIES HAVE F**CK WORDS IN THEM!!! Rob Ill never understand why they choose to have the filters on. I must say even though I have really enjoyed my gaming experience with BF2, this game has the biggest bunch of wimps I have ever seen to not be able to take some foul language.

        Re: Punkbuster 'language filter'

i got severely warned for saying 'idiot' and i was shocked. i can understand if some servers want to put the filters on, its their right to do so and if ur saying words that are considered to be bad (we all know the bad words right! well all of us who live in the real world) then i guess ur asking for it. i do like to swear and i see nothin wrong with it at all, but i mean come on, idiot is a fair word to use for someone that just ran beneath ur vehicle *for the second time!!!! i may add*

this whole language filter thing is total hornets nest tho and im sure there is much discussion to be had on it! one thing that does annoy me is that ive heard people using the argument that its not good for the 12yr olds they got playing, that pushes me over the edge that one! i at least think you should be able to say whatever you want in ur own squad, cos if the person dont like ur language then they can always leave ur squad.

The problem is, only a few people are active on the 'DICE' part of the forums, perhaps i should post this thread to BF2 discussion.

Admin, could you copy the thread to BF2 discussion?

If i get more posts then i will send it all to PB website.

Does swearing in the chat makes you look cool? I think it does not, so what's the need for it?

It acts as a relief of all the stress that you have build up whilst playing.

@SaUrOn: ik wil niet dat die mannen van punkbuster me kicken voor een paar 'slechte' woordjes, lees de bovenste thread

THey have it backwards. The server should not have filtering, the INDIVIDUAL should have filtering. Make it an option in the options menu. That way people like me who curse like a sailor can say what we want when we want. If someone doesn't want to read my f words then they can turn the thing on, that way both parties are satisfied. Right now it's imbalanced.

                          Re: Punkbuster 'language filter'

It's a setting the server uses. We use BF2CC, and shortly after we installed it (POS) I was playing on there, and asked my guys what class they wanted me.

Warning: BigBadBob for language (whatever it says). I typed: we can't say ass? warned again.

Then later someone ran in front of my while I was driving, and got TKd, I called him a stupid ****, and got kicked from my own damn server.

The default filter in BF2CC (which many use) is just plain stupid.

I agree with this completely. If you don't want to see words such as ****, ****, or ass, then you should be able to filter them. Let us ****ing swearing ass sailors swear as much as we ****ing want.

                              Re: Punkbuster 'language filter'

My beef with the language filter is the stupid words people add to the 'banned words' list, and the poor algorithm for detecting them.

For example, talking about assets (commander assets like UAV trailer, arty etc.) has managed to get me kicked before (as 'assets' contains the word 'ass'). Also, I've said words like 'darn' and 'silly' and had a warning. This is true lunacy! Nobody gets offended by a 'darn'...

Server admins should be more careful about the words they put in a list, because I've seen some really stupid banned words that nobody could ever guess at.
