Dumb.
Of course you have to take into account the skill of the other team. If we aren't being taken out on the ground by unopposed aircraft or our up against our own clanmates in the airplanes. I would consider thirty kills a lousy round even post 1.2. Hell pre 1.2 my gunner and I would start yelling at eachother if we couldn't get more than forty kills.

1.2 isn't really different. I just wish the you could see which car was shooting at you (anim/sound bug) and that the SAM's wouldn't ignore flares or fling around under the fuselage.

Yoah sure the team takes out the AA. What game are you playing? The range of the wire guided is greater than the AA. Hell if you're not under fire you can lob rounds into the AA from afar.

Why do you have to start doing ad hominem attacks? Are you feeling threatened?

And we did. See my first comments on flying slow and minding ranges. But you know, sometimes it's a lot easier for a friendly MBT to ice an AA site or that Vodnik tucked behind heavy cover. I have no illusions about the fragility of the attack helicopters, or about the difficulty in knowing where every threat is (especially with a crappy commander).

No one (or two) people can do everything in BF2 - and that's the way it ought to be. I have no problems letting my team do some of that work, because it ensures that I'll be alive and well when they need heavy armor taken out, or when they need the enemy attack helicopter dealt with.

We have our style, you have yours. The difference seems to be that:
      1) We help our team when they need help, and we make being available to assist our top priority - that means we balance overall, want-on destruction against survival and timeliness
      2) We have no problems with revised AA

      Go figure.

Nope, just bored. And a little hungry. But neither makes your trolling any more tolerable.

LOL funny video, but dam ur good and they sucked, AA Missiles are actually hardish to get on target. Atleast I have trouble on them at times.

Flying low is only good for evasive maneuvres and the occational (read rare) take down.
It's also good fun but this is more about efficiency than fun.

It ensures that you don't get much done and stay alive longer.

Neither have I besides the obvious bugs and strange behaviour. AA completely ignoring flares is no fun and doesn't look to be on purpose. AA that circles flares like the zatar video and then to a 180 and go for their own helo also doesn't look like it's on purpose. AA that stays under the fuselage and either decide to go after something else or detonate at will.

Your rhetoric is inferior. I don't care about your opinion of my "style" - I only care if we're making the biggest impact as often as possible in direct support of our team's objectives.

The funny part is that helicopter time makes up only 7% of my total time played - and I'm more of an asset to a team in need than the self-proclaimed aces who really only fly for themselves.

I was thinking, ff you apply this logic to any other competitive activty or sport it sounds so ridiculous. In a game of skill, the best should dominate, it's really that simple. And while some might consider this kind of an environment "unfair" or overwhelming then that's really too bad and they should probably be playing minesweeper instead.

Imagine if say... in golf (no, I don't like golf), they decided to make the hole where you have to hit the ball 10 times larger to make the game for "accessible" to less talented players. That is better for everyone, right? The new on the golfers, uh.. the spectators, and of course, the top ranked golfers who are good enough that they win every single competition... everyone, right? As you're less likely to have a single golfer with a dominant score every tournament. How do you think that'd go over with all of the people who love golf because it is a game of pure skill on the most basic level?

Fact is, everyone loses in 1.2 but EA. EA has made their game initially more appealing (or rather, shallow) to the casual gamer who isn't all that good where he actually has a chance of fragging some of the top players, but really it's just a cheap thrill that will soon wear off. And those same "casual" gamers could potentially soon find themselves capped off by the same silly game mechanics that neutered the best players in the first place.

O! The best post EVARR! (no sarcasm )

That is a perfect post describing what the 1.2 post did.

The golf example was perfect. I mean that is virtually exactly, repeat, exactly....what has happened here.

The funny part is that helicopter time makes up only 7% of my total time played - and I'm more of an asset to a team in need than the self-proclaimed aces who really only fly for themselves.
How can you prove that? My close chopper support is often (not always) much more beneficial to my team than even the best plane whores in 1.12 and now. No offence.

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

In a fying sim what you say is fine, but fact remains your dominance in the air affects a lot of players. I've not got a prob with being shot down by a player who couldn't previously, gives his team more chance, makes the game better for everyone.

You say it's deviod of any skill and that is clearly a load of old cobblers, if you see a plane behind you I bet you can read where he's going control your throttle to be on him and down him before he even thought 'what's the funny buzzing sound'. Any decent pilot checks his back every five seconds max.

However it's clear that you play the game to fly, to me the game is more like an RTS in first player mode, and I happen to be good ish at flying in it.

Different perspective it's up to the community as whole to decide, mind I don't see much agreement but then forums were never like that, it's rare that someone says 'actually I agree' (though thanks DrJambo).

Don't make me out like I represent an extreme view cos if you check posts on here and other forums I always said improving AA was the wrong answer and would ruin it for choppers.

There was a simple solution that I tried to get implemented, half the armour on planes, and drop it a bit on choppers, simple, AA is twice as effective, that's roughly what everyone wanted to achieve, but that's in the past. Last thing I want now is EA to try to fix it again, cos to be honest they break more than they fix.

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

I dont see how the 1.2 patch made the game for appealing for the new players. Alright, I'll give you an example. (I am very tired while writing this so it may or may not make sense) We're still on the golf course you mentioned. One golfer has a new and cool club, the "Pwner", with a mechanism that gives the golfer a 90% of getting a hole in 1. And then we have the other golfer, with a standard club. So even if they are at the same skill level, golfer #1 will most likely win every damn round. Hell, golfer #2 may even be five times better, and golfer #1 would still win. So what patch 1.2 did was give golfer #2 the same club as golfer #1, so they have equal chance of winning, if they have the same skill level. I am of course referring to air assets vs aa. And now the golfers who used to have the advantage start whining.
Just because you kill an infantryman with a tank, that doesnt mean that you are a more skilled player than him.
Of course, you may have some awesome skill in standing where the plane spawns repeatedly pressing E...yup, thats skill.

Oh, and I've tried to fly planes a few times after the patch just to see what people were whining about. And my conclusion is that they are whining without reason, cause I still pwned alot more than I usually do on foot.

you know, in reality, choppers often have little to no chance against a juet. they cant outfight them. (unlees youve got a really skilled/lucky gunner, or sidewinders. but those are both unlikely casses) and they can outrun them.

Have you ever seen people playing golf (or basketball, or football, etc) for FUN or entertainment? Or for pure exercise?

If you want to show-off your skills, you're definitelly playing the wrong game. Go chase real people on more realistic flight simulators, not in silly shooters.

Fact that someone considers himself good (or best, or whatever) in BF2 air would make all those Falcon players roll on the floor laughing.

If you don't like BF2 air and you think it's too easy - go get another game which will provide you challenge you need so much.

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

I posted some of this info in another thread, but I though it will be more useful if I post it again in a more relevant one:

Here is a list of some important features of the AA

Max speed 225 m/s (two to three time the speed of a jet)
                              explosion radius 4m
detection radius 1.5m (explosion upon proximity?)
                              maximum lock angle 120degree
                              maximum lock distance 300m
                              Time to live 12sec
                              Minimum distance 10m

                              Those numbers are all confirmed

More info regarding the A2A missiles:

All US jets/bombers use AIM 9M Sidewinder Air-To-Air missiles.
                              All MEC/China jets/bombers use AA11 Archer missiles.

The only difference between them is that Archer missiles have a maximum speed of 175m/s while the Sidewinder has a maximum speed of 225m/s.
Given the fact that USMC jets are slower than the rest of the jets in the game then it is fair to give them a little boost in the missiles's speeds. MEC/Chinese missiles start with more initial speeds because they move faster. This is true before/after 1.2 patch.

Before and after the patch, the maximum lock distance is 375m.

Now to the difference before/after the patch.

Before the patch the missiles had a maximum lock angle of 90 degrees. This number is now 120 degrees. So they can obviously make sharper turns.
The other difference is that they now lock on their target faster. They can now detect any changes in the targets position four times as fast.

A2A and S2A missiles have different pieces of code. DICE changed both of them after patch 1.2 and gave them similar properties. That is why the people think they have the same piece of code to handle them.
