Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

Yeah ... Falcon 4.0 AF is definately a bit on the slow side. Good sim, but I can't sit there for an hour just to fly to a waypoint. 761 page pdf manual is insane.

I'd love something that fell in between BF2 and Falcon. That could be a fun game.

      Choppers are so hopeless...

If you couldn't take down a 1.12 chopper with moderate effort then you have no skill.

      Sorry, thats the truth.
Exactly right. Coundn't agree more. Playing as AT, got my expert badge, I was gunning down heli's anyway with either the AT missile or .50 MG. One AT missile took half the vehicle health of the attack heli's and decent pilots would go for repairs. Inexperienced pilots, sometimes, died. Transport heli's were hard to down but are now flying death traps, unless a really good pilot is flying. Jets were the main airpower problem and imo, providing the AA is slighly reduced in effectiveness, the jets are ok in patch 1.2. They now need to land for repairs. This stops carrier raping and constant flag bombing. I'll accept the 8 missiles. the TV range(maybe) but hit points on all the heli's need setting to between patch 1.12 and patch 1.2 settings plus slightly reduce the AA. I'm not look for an easy ride in the heli's but patch 1.2 has gone too far in nerfing the airforce. That's my two pence worth!

Wow these posts are so long. The fact is the patch is here, its not going anywhere and EVERYONE needs to get used to it. If you cant handle getting shot down all the time go play flight sims. If you want fast, fun action... Here you go. I think the whole point of the patches are to A. fix problems (DUH) and B. make the game more fun as a whole. Because some pilots now hate all over BF2 forums, is Dice supposed to beef the jets up so the game is an all out bomb-fest? The game is now more fun, call it nurfing, call it whatever. Someone, somewhere found the jets and whatnot a bit noobish. They fixed it, (for the most part.... never going to be perfect) as an evolving online game should be fixed and a majority of people are happy. Your lives are not over pilots.... Dont cry in your cornflakes every morning.... Get up, get some small arms and have fun down low with the rest of us. This is an offical invite for all you air loosers to come down and join the cool group.

Plus, why is it the view of some people that pilots can't fight on the ground. I've got expert AT and vet in all combats plus I fly heli's. wtf.

First off your debating the merits of the new AA on the basis of a vid that shows a pro pilot flying the best jet in the game against a few noobs on Wake Island! Unless you've got a swicthed on team as US it's always going to be a turkey shoot.

Jeez as a pilot I'd don't even try to fly as US on Wake until we've got a foot hold on the Island it's a no go area, J10s and multiple AA sites.

I'm a pilot and I'll tell you why Planewhore doesn't like the new AA, he has to fear AA, before he didn't. The fact that he is the 'best dogfighter', and for the sake of debate I'll grant him that title, meant that he was able to dominate the entire battlefield. Now he can't.

Choppers are too soft a target, on their own yes.... but with manned AA and another pilot supporting them then it's not so easy. I can still rack up huge scores but you need a team behind you.

You can check my stats and you'l see I'm not exactly new to flying myself.

just read the top. Want to make a server ill join and we can try to not get hit?? Hop in a chopper to. Anyone disagreeeing with this is just clueless. a point click hit system is overdone end of topic.. It should have slower loads or slower lock ons. Even better "skill" or aiming would be needed. Like you cant just see the target and it auto locks. You would have to guess when and how to fire to make a hit. Flares should work almost all the time if let out on the right time. They should not work only 15% of the time which like now

Whole team thing never worked before and doesnt work now. people do what they want to do.. Thats why you hear

"We need super AA so people with no skill can hit the top flyers"

Bf2 patch was just made to make people like that happy

Im sure the AA will change again. Look at the first version of the game. The AA was better then in 1.12. It wasnt great but it was better

I still dont understand why people think dog fight is fun now. Its any ones game and jets are more apart now/stronger compared to other jets.

                end the topic.

AA is going to change/ Noob flyers can kill pros. I mean why do you even think soo many people here are defending it?? Read what i just said

Regarding A2A, I'll just ask this:
How do you forsee reconciling modern air warfare with the desire to keep things "interesting"?

Modern sidewinders, the simplest of the A2A missiles, can pull 180-degree turns on targets coming toward a pilot. Indeed, this isn't World War 2 - weapons are deadly and many engagements do come down to who gets behind whom first - and why can't that be the dimension on which pilots compete?
Obviously, you don't play real flight sims, the most important element that BF2 doesn't have is RADAR!!!!. Keep in mind most engagements start long before either plane sees the other. Could you imagine the F-14 with 8 AIM-54 Attached with a range of 300+ miles. Don't sight the physics of the sidewinder and compare things to WWII fighting. Stick to the facts, the AA is FUBAR, The grounders complained they didn't like being bombed, so they made them happy, now the other half of the playing field is unhappy. Basically what it boils down to, can't please all the people all the time.

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

Ahh that's the bottom line isn't it 'any noob can shot down a pro' that simply isn't true.

I've flown against noobs as you call it and I know their there before they've even realised what their looking at on the screen, I look behind every three-five seconds, as does any decent pilot. A noob does not have the faintest idea how to follow you.

The problem you and planewhore has is if a decnt ish pilot gets behind you, one that in the last patch you'd have lost and got to due being one the few that could actually dogfight in the last patch, they will get you.

Now don't become pre occupied that your some super duper pilot and has the definative say on this as a) I always elected to dogfight in the last patch b) Certainly no noob to flying.

Saying no teamplay is a shallow statement and basically says a lot about yourself, I've played a lot of BF2 and one thing I've learnt is play for the team and the points come, play for points and you'll end up losing and annoyed.

You say ground AA is not a problem and your right on it's own it isn't but with this patch you won't be sticking around to take a good chopper pilot with manned AA around him.

I'll grant you the choppers need a tweak but this thread was started by a guy who said he was the authority on planes and that this needed to happen etc.

                      Exactly.

I don't mess around alot with jets, but any system where all you do is left click, NOT aim, NOT think, and just left click is totally messed up. S2A and A2A.....

The system needs to rely on skill...just like EVERY other weapon in this game does.

Shotguns, sniper rifles, AT missiles, tanks, apcs, the jet cannons, assault rifles, grenades, even claymores and AT mines as they rely on good placement....

Everything but arty, and thats a bit different of course.

The system needs to involve something of skill. A simple lowering of the accuracy of missiles isn't good enough....

Get up, get some small arms and have fun down low with the rest of us. This is an offical invite for all you air loosers to come down and join the cool group.
                      That statement plain disgusts me.

Although my stats won't show it (very) well (due to rampant spawncamping), I do own on the ground, with assault rifles, sniper rifles, shotguns, apcs, tanks...etc...

The reason why the majority of players are happy with this is because the majority of players:

                      1. Don't have a sense for game balance
                      2. Have little skill and play casually/occasionally.
                      3. Couldn't shoot down helicopters in 1.12 even tho it was very easy.

That is why they are happy.

They sucked, they were noobs, they couldn't take down a chopper (even tho it was easy) so dice gave them a noob easy and dumbed down solution.

As far as im concerned, A2A missles were fine in 1.12. If the pilot was good he could avoid them. If you were good you could take out the guy easily with the jet cannon.

Heres how I sum it up.

                      1.12:

I never complained about killing jets from the ground before and during my time as a chopper whore

I never complained about being bombed by jets.

I never complained about choppers being overpowered even BEFORE I actually used choppers....they were always easy to kill.

I never complained about noob tubes, even though I was never a major noob tube user.

Although it was annoying, dolphin diving and bunnyhopping were only a slight challenge....and no, I didn't do either myself.

I never complained about support wep accuracy, they fired many shots and had large clips. Accuracy was a trade off.

                      Bottom line:

People complained. Dice gives noobs a noob friendly patch. Game gets dumbed down. Now the pros complain.

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

...I'm not look(ing) for an easy ride in the heli's but patch 1.2 has gone too far in nerfing the airforce. ...

How can you argue that the air forces are nerfed when they still own everything? You can score more points more easily and faster with aircraft (helo's and jets) than any other vehicle, regardless of player class, in the game... Almost all the other weapons/vehicles in the game are countered by a specific class of player but the air forces are countered by static defenses and a special AA vehicles that is a sitting duck to most ground forces.

Plus when you use aircraft ground targets are labeled X's for friendlies, and Squares for enemy's so all an enemy jet has to do is dive in on top of an enemy flag and he's likely to find a green box and either bomb it or strafe it getting a kill. That is no harder than pointing an AA site at a jet, waiting for flares to come out, relock, fire, watch fireworks.

If the jets were being locked onto from the max visual range and destroyed way before they had a chance to attack then you'd have something to argue, but aircraft are still the most powerful weapon in the game and wrack up plenty of points. They are not as powerful as before, thank god, but they still own everything, the difference now is that they can be shot down with AA very easily, which seems balanced since they can kill ground targets very easily.

You want the missles to be less effective? Deal, you just have to give up those nice green reticles in ground attack mode that make it so easy to target enemies. You want more hitpoints in the helo? Deal, you just have to give AA sites longer lock on ranges.

                            NICE post

same here i never even really complained over the Blackhawk for example sure it sucked when people get together and capped flages but I just thought its team work and it was always fun to take the whole 6 people out. With anti tank and or with c4 on the flags which right now you cant do beacuse no jump/shoot. but simple tweak was to limit repair time and the whole not able to cap until on ground which should of been done in the first place beacuse the game just ends to fast .Not everything is balanced and if it was game would be boring

Sames goes for jets/helis even tanks/apc. Was annoying but was also fun. example I would go to the airfiled and base rape with anti tank on the jets/helis before they can take off or when they try to repair Or with tanks apc when they all get together to self repair each other i would toss some c4 over and take both of them out which now you cant do

sure the game needed some tweaks with this or that but not 8-13 changes on one thing. Or take one thing and just over do it.

If you play the demo and then play the final. its a whole different game

edit; I still dont understand why helis have such a large nerf when in the first place they were never a problem. Did anyone have problems with them? All i thought needed was shorted tv and some better AA and probably a tank shot should take an attack chopper out on fire.. before it was 1 shot 3 bars which is fine and all but if you are flying and get hit then you should die beacuse its not easy to hit with a tank :) but other then that I thought they were sometimes a pain like tanks and apcs but nothing over board. Jets seems to get no real change just that air to air//

sounds like many people are really misunderstanding the topic.. saying you can own and get points and etc etc balba

All the fancy features you can bring to light doesn't change the fact that a player can score more points more easily in a jet or helo than a player in any other vehicle.

Once the game changes enough when that isn't true and pilots become the lowest scoring players in the game, then it's nerfed. You can't argue it's not fair when aircraft still domintate. So they get shot down a lot more frequently, big deal, they still own everything on the ground cept AA.
