Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

Why do pilots seem to think that they should be bombing airfields and playing grabass with each other for the whole round instead of actually helping the ground troops? That's the only reason I can think why they would be so upset that air fights are over so much quicker now.

If two pilots are chasing each other around the whole time only killing each other, how is it helping the team?

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

He's right about the J10, not much else but imho he is right about that. Although it adds some character to the game.

My experiance is a little different though I used to feel next to useless against a good pilot in a J10 in 1.12, not noobs no, but good pilots cos we'd both know that in reality I was dead. I used to try to pull them out of the Battlefield in 1.12.

However in 1.2 it's a bit different. Yesterday I played against a good J10 pilot and he got me a few times and his kills were mounting. I then noticed his primary source of 'revenue' was our bomber so I tucked myself high above him, sure enough he came in, got a bit greedy and he was down.

All of a sudden his kill rate starts to drop I know why, we're playing cat and mouse it was awesome.

This hostile air space is a new concept to BF2, watch the video on Oman to see how there was total disregard for it. Now I find myself watching my team capture that critical point where it'll clear a huge hunting zone for me, great stuff.

Alcorr I have been shot down by a total noob since the patch, but each and every time it was my fault. Very often being a bit too greedy or assuming it was ground AA rather then a plane.

If someone can get behind me and I haven't checked then I deserve it. Heck if someone gets behind me and I have spotted them and can still maintain a lock, through a few moves, flares, and our guys are not manning AA as I try to run to safety, then again they deserve the kill. Mind I don't have a massive ego to stroke so........

Mandos I'm sure you won't be bothered about PW's remarks, but if you do as a 20,000 kill 200Hr pilot that did NOT baserape I think you speak a lot of sense. I find 64 player servers are full of people playing for stats frankly.

Finally and that's my lot on this thread, I don't get it Planewhore, you start the thread and say 'Dogfighting is dead takes no skill' yet by your own admission and your own evidence you state that very often you elected very often not to dogfight in the first place. So why is it even an issue? (I think most people on this forum know the answer by the way)

Yes I assumed that much which was the point. Some people before me said faster tank rounds would lag the server which quite frankly makes no sense.

Exactly. I wish more people knew this so they wouldn't think that server variables are possible to alter via cheats (unless the server is compromised).
Like you, I don't think a faster tank round would lag the server. I do believe that having a realistic rof (which is basically faster), on say, the bhawk miniguns (and other projectile that would be faster than it is in the game) would lag it out. If you shot 100 rounds out of that in say 2 seconds instead of 6 (for the sake of a number), there would be all that information for positional updates crammed in a very short amount of time compared to what it is right now. And I beleive that is what they meant by saying they couldn't make things totally realistic.

Someone else stated that they wish the animations and what was really happening was more in sync, and on alot of that, I agree. It wouldn't be hard for them to adjust the animations of bullet rounds in accordance to your ping. Woudl give you a better idea of where you are really shooting if you don't have a feel for the ping adjustments in this game.

If they are only killing each other then it's a complete waste of an extremely fast vehicle with bombs that are designed to kill tanks.

TotalBF2: A lot of your mod is based around realism, a factor of game play that there are many opinions about. Based on the criticism you receive, whether good or bad, from the community about the topic, how do you go about reworking your mod to reach a balance?

[R-DEV] JS.Fortnight.A: This is one of the toughest issues that we face with the evolution of our mod, finding the right balance of realism and game-play. There are several factors which limit how ‘real’ we can make our mod: losing the all important ‘fun-factor’, BF2 engine limitations (parameters?) and compatibility with different hardware configurations (trust me, turning up the velocity of an MG or a Main Battle Tank’s main gun to near real life specs can cause the game to lag on a network and will drop your frame rates to very uncomfortable levels). Having these 3 points in mind we have a pretty good idea as to how far we can take the realism factor for various elements in the game. This is also seen through the feedback we get from our testing staff, and of course the reaction from the community upon release.
Thx. Gotta say it still doesn´t make sense to me though, I´m gonna have to make the tank shells faster myself sometime. I mean, all handguns already have a 1000m/s bullet velocity and there´s no lag. Forgotten Hope for BF1942 has pretty fast tank bullets and there´s no lag. Maybe something fishy about the BF2 engine, which doesn´t exactly look too greatly optimized at times.

                      no no u dont understand..

Jets are powerful. If you make the other teams ( pilot) to busy trying not to get killed by your teams ( pilot ) he cant do anything else

Isnt that better then having him bomb your spawn? or base?

It helps the team a lot so still no idea what you are talking about..

You should really get a little maturity planewhore. You tend to insult people with personal offenses everytime someone argues against you.

                            How about that:

You jump into any given AA vehicle or AA emplacement and YOU can show me how AA was good in v1.12 and shoot me down with that. You can watch me circling and looping then or like you would say let "A little more of my experience kicking in" to dodge that missiles.

I want to enter the Matrix like you.

After that we can do some dogfighting to boost you a little. I have no doubt that you get me as you spend far more time flying in BF2 than me. :p

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

this thread has passed boredom and has gone straight to insults and conjecture, the aa is stronger and the pilot's role has become tougher. whether ea plans on changing it is probably up to the community and whether it is potentially harming to their profits. i was a chopper whore (although the phrase leaves a bad taste in my mouth), but the patch has caused me to adapt and change my style of gameplay. how have i adapted? you might ask, but probably will not, ...i have stopped flying so much. if no one else is using it (jet or chopper) i hop in it and give it a try, if there is a jet in the sky w/ a half decent pilot i might spend my time on the ground. although this is a thread about pilots, one thing is for sure, if you can aim a gun steadily and squeeze off more rounds than the next guy in an accurate fashion you will probably beat your opponent, of course asssuming that your weapons are reasonably balanced. the aa however, is one of those weapons where the individual manning it is exposed and vulnerable to enemy ground troops. since the patch, i have killed more people in the aa than pilots with the aa.
lets try and be civilized and leave the insults out of a mature debate... please. some of this has been a worthwhile read and other parts have not.
*note: one "at" rocket will send an aa turret skyhigh. :0)

If there would have been a competent pilot flying the J-10, Wargimp would have been screwed. As soon as F-18 exits vertical climb, its afterburner turn speed equals J-10s non afterburner turn speed. Also its speed is superior. With some throttle control, an immelman by itsself wouldnt save you. Although I agree that usinh your brain is the key for survival. But if you dont know what your plane can and cant do, that wont help much.
                                Ah ha!
"If there would have been a competent pilot flying the J-10, Wargimp would have been screwed."
Thus, a more skilled pilot would have been able to hang on my tail and down me. "Skilled", as in it requires skill. In this case, my skills (as sad as they are) were able to over come those of my opponent despite him have advantages in both his asset (the J-10) and the tactical situation (I futzed up and gave him my tail).

Sorry, Chris, but you inadvertantly underlined my point.

I'm still not opposed to the idea of working towards a more interesting system where a pilot has a (slim) chance to deek missiles, but if that wasn't to ever happen I wouldn't be upset about it.

                                As it stands:
                                - Working missile tracking makes planes a valid target for other planes.
                                - Pilots now have a survivability expectation that is in-line with the other assets and mechanics of the game. That's a sign of "blanace".
                                - Modern air to air combat is significantly different from WWII dog fighting in that engadgements are fought and won in seconds, not minutes.
                                - There is a way to avoid missiles, you just can't expect to do it over and over.
                                - If you can't stand modern style knifefights as opposed to WWII dogfights, mayhap you are playing the wrong game.
